In 1835, friends met in a boat house which was converted into a meeting room. This building was only eight feet high and was unbearably hot in the summer while in the winter it was frequently flooded by high tides. The present Chapel was built in 1844, and this building also experiences flooding at times. The Chapel is surrounded by boat yards.
