[0:00] The Lamentations of Jerry Meyer and the 23rd verse. The third chapter, the Lamentations of Jerry Meyer and the 23rd verse. [0:21] They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. They are new every morning. [0:34] Great is thy faithfulness. You will notice that Jerry Meyer is speaking of the Lord's mercies. [0:48] And because of the Lord's mercies, he said we are not consumed. Because his compassions fail not. [1:03] The compassions of God remain the same right throughout time. And as God said in the epistles, I will have compassion upon whom I will have compassion. [1:27] And God will have compassion upon his people. As though, as you can see by these chapters of Jerry Meyer, he was led down into the depth of trouble, trials, afflictions, and so on. [1:55] And Jerry Meyer really thought at times that the Lord had left him. [2:08] He was brought again and again to feel in his soul's experience that God had left him. [2:23] That God had not entirely left. But there was evidence that God was still the same, a God to his people. [2:38] Though they were now in great affliction. And as I believe, as I believe, as I believe, Jeremiah, who has helped, to look back down through the ages, and he could see that all God's people, more or less, had to walk the path of affliction some, he could see, had a much deeper path to cure it than others. [3:22] But nevertheless, everyone seemed to have afflictions, a tenderness all their journey through. [3:37] and those who seem to be more blessed, they go to the afflictions. [3:50] Very mysterious. But depend upon it. It is in accordance with the wisdom of God's friends. [4:02] and not that God delights in that sense, but it is to make himself better known to his people. [4:25] Affliction sanctified, as we can see, will work for the soul's prophet benefit and bring such and nearer and nearer to their God. [4:47] if there was no trials and troubles and afflictions, God's people would have very few errands to the throne of grace, the mercy seed. [5:07] But having the path to trade so, like Jeremiah, they come to God and they plead at the throne of grace, and what we see in that, why, friends, one great thing there is the exercise of faith, isn't it? [5:38] If God has blessed you and me with faith, is he not a right to try that faith? as we can see all the way down through that where God has given this gift, that it is being tried, tried. [6:06] faith. And eventually, it will work for the souls to go and benefit. [6:22] It will cause souls to see that they have a real faith. you see, there is a natural faith, but that will not bring the soul to that eternal rest. [6:44] No. what we need is that faith in which Jesus is the author and the finisher of. [7:01] and if Jesus is the author and the finisher, so, from time to time, that faith will be a tribe, and yet, God will watch the soul in these trials, in these afflictions, and when it is worked for good, then God will send relief. [7:43] He will cause that soul to take rest, and there again mother sweet and blessed lesson there, friends. [7:56] If the afflicted soul find rest from time to time lost in this wilderness, is it not a foretaste of that eternal rest? [8:13] It certainly is. You were looking into that blessed event when you will see him as he is, where you will find eternal rest for your soul. [8:40] But whilst you are passing along through this wilderness can find a trials, even a temptation, afflictions, sorrows, and so on, a death, he blesses you with a little rest in your souls, and you really feel, well, know, this is a case of that rest which is yet to come. [9:21] It's a favour, friends, and a great favour, but whilst in that path of affliction, there is always a righting of bitter things against oneself. [9:41] yes, and often, in righting bitter things against ourselves, that we lose sight of that hand of God. [10:01] God, he knows and he understands our hearts. he knows every thought. [10:15] He knows our affections, and God then knew in our hearts, he will prepare the cause so that his people shall from time to time find some sweetness in it. [10:40] It's not all bitterspent. As we read these chapters of Jeremiah, you will see that from time to time he had a touch, a touch, seemed his own spirit moved upon his heart, and he was brought to a solemn remembrance of God's favor, God's goodness, and his mercies towards him. [11:19] In our text, as you can see, in respect to the mercies of God, he says, they're new every morning, as though Jeremiah was brought in this depth of affliction, to solemnly consider that it was not all bitters, but God's mercies, they were new every morning. [12:01] What a thought, friends, you go to bed perhaps, and you may wake up in the night, and during the night watches, I feel that is the worst seasons, the night seasons, you may wake up, and in a very short time, there you are, on your bed, in your heart, in your mind, just might have troubled sin, and you wonder where the scene is going to end, no peace, no question, there you are, in your very soul, tempest past, and wonder, and wonder where the scene will end. [13:07] But like Jeremiah, as you've been brought to see the life of another born, have you not been brought also to see? [13:20] God's mercy is still with you, is made known, his mercy, in the morning, and you realize, that though you was in such a terrible state and condition in your heart, and in your mind, yet God, in the morning, proved, to you, these mercies are still to one. [13:56] Now, would you be without that experience? And when you were brought calmly to look upon these things and feel well, there's mercy in it, mercy in it. [14:18] And especially when a God brings you to see, well, what was that compared to the substance of God's dearly beloved Son? [14:41] What he passed through, the bitterness that he did, and how he drank his answer. [14:54] And then, when brought to see this, you realize more and more, God has been indeed a God of grace and a Father of mercies there to you. [15:13] know, that's what I believe is the purpose sometimes, friends, of these things, is to bring us to a realization of what God's dearly beloved Son has passed through and how he endured all those afflictions those songs those claims those angles even death friends you ever really considered that god's dear son assuming that human nature he didn't really and actually experience death yes he was real friends and you may say to me why are you so sure the reality of that death i'm so sure friends in this sense is that justice the justice of god and the holiness of god had to meet and justice had to be satisfied absolutely satisfied and it was satisfied infinitely satisfied friends he had to remove infinite death so that there was no way out the death in which our first parents they buy original sin and then our actual sins it brought upon in the oil and the rest and god in his infinite justice in his holiness he could not be satisfied you see even justice and mercy could not meet until justice was satisfied and justice was infinitely satisfied is so that a god could have mercy in which he did have mercy all that death friends very very real though he was god yet he was very man and as a very man capable of suffering the pains of the agonists which when justice looked upon that body and even the very soul and saw that dear lamb of god so suffering even unto death even unto death the death of the cross then justice could say to mercy now i have been completely satisfied god the father that he looked upon so he was satisfied and there we see the way open ah friends what a way the way was open so that a poor sinner could be pardoned no other way you know but well might jesus say knowing what was before him and if any climbed up in any other way he was a thief and a robber considering what was before him what he had to endure is so that that debt it might be paid to come to a complete satisfaction ah friends that's redemption redemption salvation and let me just put it like this you believe as i believe that there's heaven and there's hell isn't there well our sins deserve hell didn't they and hell is eternal the same as heaven that's where i get that amazing true of uh justice being and had to be infinitely satisfied you see who said your soul and my soul deserve hell but god's dear son when he paid that price he was deliverance from it and infinitely so yes oh what what a wonderful favor things it is to have any evidence to call by grace as it is impossible to climb up some other way so i say what a wonderful blessing to know anything of that call by grace and there to be brought as i just mentioned with that blessed thing that faith will try and as it brings out also the 12 never are dear the lord and savior they've got faith that faith which is trying will also look to jesus and it is by that look right as the paul says look him unto jesus that's it then the more you look to him i believe you will see in him more and more the wonders of redemption and salvation and is it not friends in and through the sufferings then of the lord jesus christ is that you obtain mercy it is that's that's the channel you see god's dear son's sufferer and therefore the channel was open for god's mercy to flow into your whole heart into my whole heart and then we must not then expect that if the lord pays such a price that our journey here below there will be a complete peace complete calmness go we must expect to find tribulations and that will cause us more and more to value that is to eat the sufferings of god's dear son that through those sufferings the way was open to eternal life do you see it do you see it soul it's god blessed you in that precious thing to be enabled to look upon those sufferings that the lord jesus christ would say in your very heart i see now the way has been opened through those very sufferings and there is life even life everlasting that's a way to address the the the the lord jesus christ he must pass through those sufferings so that the way to eternal life might be opened and therefore his people might be sure yes and as the dear redeemer said in that beautiful chapter and this he says is life eternal that they might know thee the only true god and how do we know god got through his dear son we know god through his dearly beloved and if you meet then find in our wilderness journey we have like jerry month the path of tribulation we then are brought to look to jesus and there see is that he opened the way is so that his people might know god and that they may look to have an eternal life yes it is perfectly true as the prophet said these mercies are new every boy well i would just like to point out friends here here you every morning well even with if we take these mercies admit the light when you see the light of another day is it not a mercy it is a what have you ever considered in this life you wake up and perhaps you look out and you say what a beautiful morning what a beautiful morning the sun shines there is such a haze upon everything even vegetation it seems though it's had a ton of refreshment yes you can see as you look upon it the handiwork of your god that through the night even vegetation as we see is blessed but have you ever considered this have you seen the beauty of another more the light of another day have you considered what a wonderful thing it is to have a little night in one's soul yes a little light in one's soul yes a little night whereby you open his mouth in spiritually as you can see as you look upon the light of another day so you look within your soul and you feel you have a hope a hope that even the light that god still shines in and upon your heart even at your very soul what a mercy friends well considered and then let us take another step as you come down and so you find the commencement of another day is preparation for food and you find as you begin to look around as food even to meet your daily needs for your body and so you find after the preparation you sit down and there you feast upon that who god's mercy to me god's mercy stands but look if you ever consider as you arise what a wonderful provision god has made in the person of his dear son in that you're favored even to protect the little of the bread of life you can really feed in your heart the [32:06] Lord Jesus Christ that bread which came down to the heaven is a sweet morsel of time you very soon you're unable to feel about it and perhaps you may feel your heart more towards him in love in love you may feel him as you come together that bread which comes down to him you have a hope in this that he came down from him and that his body was broken before your soul and you really experience what it is what it is what it is to receive into your very soul the truth the very truth that [33:19] God's dear son came down from him it to be the bread of life to your very soul ah friends what a motion what a motion we shall never as he who Jeremiah said and I believe he was brought friends to consider really consider they are new every morning said Jeremiah he realized that God had not let do completely that there was touch his visitations and look again as you find there is something for you to drink something for you to drink does it not it sometimes comes to your poor heart ah when the children of Israel pass through that wilderness even what was struck and the world is just showed so that there is wonderful place of life if you know what it is [34:52] I believe thirst is worse than hunger I can say that I believe from experience thirst is really worse than hunger you can endure hunger longer than you can thirst and what a provision that in that God so is the person in that spring of water it did not that dear woman hit the well of Samaria ah she found that that spring opened up into her very soul and she she let her water her water pot you see she had a taste of water of life in that spring she did not labor for him she said and to [36:14] Jesus well the well he did he in which he thought he was speaking of the natural water well but the water that Jesus gave out she found there was a well springing up within her very soul and what a sweet stream that is is the water sweeter than the earth of water as Jeremiah said they are new every morning and they could go on the bed take your sight and why when you open your eyes you see so many many objects before you you but what a favor when the eye of your soul in the eye of your understanding is open and you are unable to look upon [37:27] Jesus and as you look upon him so you see in him some beauty in which the world cannot see yes you are a faith a look upon him and you are enabled at times to feel how very precious he is very precious the water of mercy he is with your favor in the bone with that I say to look upon his hands his feet his wounded side and there to see God's provision God's provision the eye of faith looks upon him by wisdom very much felt in that ordinary inside our friends to have the pain to see that his hands and his feet in that where wound inside [38:54] God's provision him those wounds to him yes that wounded were inside a refuge look at himself it's real and it's a mercy when you could say other refuge have I gone hands my helpless soul of me yes these mortis friends they are new and reborn I know sometimes they seem to be very very weak seem to be very small but nevertheless it's a mercy if you can really feel [39:59] I can genuine thing it's a genuine thing it's God's gift that's a mercy and a great mercy and as furthermore the prophet said great is thy faithfulness great is thy faithfulness in that day by day is people enjoy those very bits which are gentle but friends do keep God's faithfulness when you really begin to go hidden in that God myself through the ages has been faith covenant hate with [41:05] God I must leave it friends with the works of that language of the psalmist you know these old saints they had the deep waters had to pass through you know if you may look upon in the right night we can see well there was something sweet came out to be in the reflections and even David said I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever David then walked in in part of peace all his days and but he said I will sing of the mercies of the [42:12] Lord forever with my mouth will I make known my faithfulness to all generations and God's faithfulness is still with you is still with me even this day for I have said mercy shall be built up forever thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens I have made a covenant with my children I have sworn unto David my servant thy seed will I establish forever and build up thy throne to all generations and the heaven shall praise thy wonderful Lord thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints for who in the heaven can be compared unto the [43:16] Lord who among the sons of the mighty shall be loved unto the Lord God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints and to be had in reference of all them that are about it and I must leave these four remarks may the Lord bless his old world Amen and I have to be aware when it was true and I could believe the true even in the same but the cent the Arab of the young and theirńst are called in or to
