[0:00] praying again for the help of the Lord I direct you to Psalm 46 and the first part of verse 10 be still and know that I am God be still and know that I am God I've with much fear I'll preach this afternoon or mention something which I don't know whether I've declared before in the pulpit but this is it you may poor soul have something in your life pertaining to the will of God and you may have fought against it fought against it in there there was love now knitted in that love there was Christ the Lord he as it were drew you in a certain direction and in that certain direction there was the presence of the Lord now

[2:12] I'm preaching this out of that which I hope has been prompted by the Lord because while you were singing I trembled fear came upon me and I said what does this mean Lord what does this mean unless any of you should feel or think that I may be preaching or speaking in your case through knowledge or anything like that please do not think so I'm preaching as I hope prompted from within now in this which the Lord he may lay in your heart in his love in this direction to go in a certain way in a certain direction and in yourself you didn't want to leave where you were you were happy as it were in this in this path you felt contentment you felt settled in this lot but then you see the Lord came and he led you in a way which part of that way there was the love of Christ and part of that way was your own self your own natural self which resented certain aspects of that path which he was leading you in now

[4:13] I'm going to touch something here this is taking up the cross taking up the cross now you follow me so far you've got in your heart the love of Christ you've got in your heart where you see the flesh in the commencement of it the flesh as it were aspects in this you did not want to but then you see the love of Christ as it were he overwhelmed you all opposition was taken away to the path which he was leading you in all opposition within the flesh as it were became subdued and the flesh became reconciled to it the flesh became reconciled to it and you you felt overwhelmed as it were in the love of Christ within your heart drawing you in that direction and there was that love you see that love that completely as it were overwhelmed you now you felt you thought that you would live in that life you thought that you would live in the joy and peace in the path with Christ in your heart with the love of

[6:18] Christ surrounding you as it were and causing in your in your heart or in your circumstances such presence of himself with you and then you come into a path where there was intense as it were opposition sprang up within your heart against this path which the Lord had led you into you knew it was the Lord because he manifested and you pass through be still and know that I am God you you pass as it were he led you and he brought you you see and you came forth you came forth and sung his praises in it and then you see you come into the time when those things which were although the opposition within you the flesh the opposition within you to the will of

[7:47] God it was as if they were released within your heart the powers the powers which came subject to the will of the Lord the powers within you which came as it were you thought you thought that they they had fled under the power and love of Christ within your heart and now those very same powers they as it were they come right up within you and you felt as it were mastered by them and you know you may come here you may never have heard anyone speak of it before how those very powers within you may charge

[8:58] God may blame God for the very path that you are walking you know it was the Lord you know he brought you into it you know it was him you know it was him that led you but now you see those very powers as it were as I use that term unleashed from within you and they become and almost as it were an all prevailing passion within your heart condemning God for bringing you into this path blaming him replying against him you know the soul passing through this path through this way they are as it were torn asunder within torn asunder within they are under these powers rising up within remember this

[10:25] I'll just touch that Jesus went into the wilderness to be tempted of Satan to be tempted by Satan to be tempted of the devil I think it says and you know those conflict within and you feel this you see Christ is gone the love is gone the peace which you felt in your heart the joy which you felt in your heart is all gone and what have you got left you may say this thou has spoilt my life the Lord the Lord has spoilt your life do you know the children of

[11:28] Israel when they came out of Egypt they sung his praises on the seashore but then they murmured and they looked back and they said oh they preferred to eat I think it was the cucumbers in Egypt they were angry why why have I why has the Lord brought me in this path why has he brought me here all joy and all peace completely taken away now in that path the Lord he may come to you poor soul rebuke the cause within your heart of your anger do you know how to do it he will do it by love that's how he do it he will do it by his forgiving love rebuke the very causes within your heart of the anger which you have against the

[13:01] Lord he will rebuke that fleshly heart that fleshly mind that fleshly desire within you and he'll bring you to submission to his mind and to his will and do you know what you feel within your heart you feel peace all that peace you see he here he said with that wind you know it was so open to me when I read it this morning how he rebuked the wind the cause of the tumult and he rebuked that which is the cause of the tumult within your heart and you know the waves the billows all the stirring up all the malice all the hatred everything that's within your heart he will as it were subdue it all in a moment he calls the legion as he calls all those devils to go out of that man and you know don't you prove this that you feel in your heart with these things these passions that go on within how that you feel chained to them you would not have them but you see when

[14:53] Jesus says peace be still be still be still we sang it this morning be still my heart these anxious thick hairs to thee are burdens thorns and snares they cast dishonor on thy lord and contradict his gracious word do you know when he comes you see and he comes with his forgiving love and as he sheds abroad that love of his within your heart that forgiving love within his heart do you know what you know what you cry out lord let me live here let me live here let me live in thy love lord let me live in this peace within my heart lord draw me lord and keep me and surround me and protect me as it were in this love of thy because you see even when you're within as it were this circle of love within your heart you will hear the devil roar from without the outer darkness but you see they cannot whilst you hear their noise whilst the malicious hatred of

[16:31] Satan you may feel him in this outer darkness beyond that shield and you see this causes you to cling closer to the lord your very desire is to live beneath his eyes your very desire within your soul is to live with him close with you love and you see there is repentance flows out from your soul to him yes there is all that repentance love that flows out of your soul to him you know this is where a child of grace they would live they wouldn't live in hatred they wouldn't live in malice they wouldn't live in separation they would live to

[17:32] Christ now I'm coming into something else now be still and know that I am God now you see what are these wounds I'm not certain I think it's in Isaiah where he was awake a sword against my shepherd I'm not certain where it is now but you see there was one said to him what are these wounds now you will prove this poor soul in those things where you hope the Lord has led you where the Lord has drawn you by the cords of is no you will come into another path and what is that you know

[18:42] I feel in everything that I've come into of the Lord where I've come to this day if there is no reality in it but let the work of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be made manifest in your heart in your soul the work of

[19:49] Christ within your heart Satan hates it and he'll be a deadly fellow and he'll do all that he can in his power to cause that work to cease within your heart and to cease with it with whatever the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ may command you yes he may I say yes he will because you will prove and as you read through the word of God you will prove this you can read it and as the Lord gives you eyes to read it and you read it out of what you've experienced within your heart you will see case after case where you see there have been those whom the

[21:04] Lord has blessed within their soul and made manifest his power a power which he had when he was on earth and the power which he still has in glory greater if I could use that word greater in degree the power is all power all power has been given unto me in heaven and on earth our Jesus our God our Savior but my mind goes in illustration of this to that man who was born blind born blind and how the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave him sight sight how through the work of our

[22:10] Lord and Savior Jesus Christ he receives sight now this is what I'm trying to tell you this afternoon how that you may come in this trial you see where the Lord has done great things for you where he's manifested his love to you where he's brought you forth to the praise of his name and you know it's of the Lord now you meet opposition as the blind man met you see how the Pharisees came to him didn't they oh the the Lord how what he walked in persecution from the Pharisees because the Lord and

[23:10] Saviour Jesus Christ had opened his eyes opened his eyes and you know the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ he may open your eyes he he he he he bring you out from the bondage of darkness and bondage of corruption he bring you and open your eyes your spiritual eyes bring you to the new birth and you see the opposition which you may meet from those those round about you because you see the Lord the Lord has been pleased to give you sight you follow what I'm saying the work of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ how you see through his work manifested within your heart brought you you see out of darkness into his light and brought you you see he laid his will in your heart and brought it to pass brought to pass that which he had promised you the will of

[24:37] God you say it's the Lord and you may speak to others of it and you may say the Lord has done it and you expecting in your heart a response what are you expecting love and peace you expect joy you say rejoice with me for the Lord hath done great things for me and come in to opposition opposition oh how it may how it cuts you how it hurts you deeply and you see you what our text is this our text says be still be still and know that

[25:42] I am God he knows he knows all about him yes he does do you know I was in this part in a case where I hope doing the will of the Lord the intensity of the opposition was indescribable and you know I went to the Lord and as you see you go to the Lord about it and I complain to him about it I said why is this Lord why is this that under the drawing power of thy love within my heart thou didst bring me into this path and now I've come into such great opposition why is it Lord and you know these words came to me what is that to thee what is all the opposition what is all the powers that are against this what is it what is it what is that to thee follow thou me now do not attempt in any way as it were to justify yourself do not in any way argue do not in any way attempt any revenge or anything like that it says be still be still and you know you have to walk quietly no complaints walk quietly before the

[27:48] Lord quietly doing his will quietly peace within your heart you know you may say yes but I don't feel any peace within my heart I feel anxious I feel concerned do you know I want to tell you this that in these paths the Lord may you may come here as a little child before him grieved and in sorrow grieved before him and come as a little child would speak to their parent and say Lord why is this why do I have to walk this path when

[28:49] I see others walk at ease when I see others as it were pass me by others haven't got this great opposition others don't appear to walk in this way and yet here am I as it were obstacle after obstacle why is this Lord and you know I remember walking the garden as it were walking around the garden praying this prayer to the Lord oh it did come so sweetly into my heart sweetly down the Lord as if the Lord has spoken plainly what I do now thou knowest not but thou shalt know hereafter it is the

[29:50] Lord this path the path that you may be walking in is the Lord's choosing for you now what did I say there I said the path that you may be walking is the Lord's choosing for you shall I tell you something that's your interpretation upon it the Lord is his own interpreter and he will make it plain you know we make many mistakes yes we do you see I didn't need the Lord to tell me what he was doing now I didn't need him to tell me that because I knew him I knew that I was walking in a path of intense opposition to the degree that it were it not for his strength were it not for his power

[31:06] I would be completely immersed under it not to rise again and that's what I thought I thought the Lord was the author of it all but you know if you analyse what that text was which I said to you what I do now thou knowest not but I you see and you may be in such a path you may feel that the Lord has stirred everything up and brought you into this path of opposition which I thought but he said thou knowest not and I thought I did know now you may be more wise than me but you know the time came when the

[32:17] Lord within a week through two circumstances in my life within one week the Lord showed me how wrong I was the interpretation which I put on it was completely wrong yes it was the opposition was from Satan mark what I said the opposition was from Satan you read Paul how that he they wanted to go into a certain place but Satan opposed us but you see the power of

[33:28] God it says in our text doesn't it be still and know that I am God with all you see do not fight do not as it were attempt in your own strength to do anything be still be still under the powers of Satan against you your eyes up to the Lord by faith and faith is the gift of God he gives faith if you think that you've got to generate faith in your heart you'll prove yourself wrong you'll prove that the faith which you generate within your heart will fail you but you see it's the faith of the Lord which he implants within your heart oh do you know how softened how wonderful

[34:34] I felt the working power of our God in face of all the opposition of the enemy in the face of all opposition under Satan's agents to come here you see where the Lord reveals to you that it's his power how he works I will work and who shall let it and you know the Lord when he opens your eyes would you know what you'll do you'll sing praises to him yes you will you'll sing his praises poor soul the Lord that has brought us through all the journey through do you know God's people you will find this deadly foe of yours

[35:44] Satan he will harass he will torment he will do his best to cause you agony of mind and agony of heart yes he will he'll do his best if he can as it were trap you if he can as it were draw you away he is delighted he is powerful but our God is all powerful yes he is and you see this is what you in these things you will know that I am God oh you know when the Lord comes when he comes and reveals himself as your protector oh yes he do you know you may come you may come in these things in what we call simple things simple things you know perhaps

[37:02] I ought to rephrase that because when you're in it it's not a simple thing some people you see they may you may tell them of this in your life and they may say oh that's nothing that's nothing but it's to you poor so what it is to you that's nothing but you to prove the power of God I I've spoken of this once or twice in the ministry and it comes to me again because it illustrates what I'm trying to say to you this afternoon in the power of God be still be still now you see I knew a man many years ago and he was a builder and he was doing some work for a man who was one of these very particular people and the work he did for him had to be perfect now this man who employed him for this work he had much antique furniture and he was very proud of his antique furniture and this man this a child of

[38:37] God you see one that feared God he had to decorate this room and necessitated moving furniture and you know when he and the man that was working for him when they moved an article of furniture it fell to pieces it was very old you see and it fell to pieces now this was a valuable antique article and it was quite beyond his means to ever think of trying to replace it or trying to pay for a new placement and he what shall I do what shall I do anyway the man was not there in the evening and of course he went home and where did he go he went to the

[39:42] Lord he was in agony be still be still my heart these anxious cares oh you know a sleepless night you see because he knew this man he was working for he knew he was a hard task master and you know he went the following morning to face him full of fear and trembling when he saw this man he broke down and wept before him and he the man said well that's quite alright he said I I've got it wrong do you know he came before that man and that man was as a lamb he was he was as a lamb and you know this man he saw the power of

[40:53] God the answer to prayer bringing a lion as a lamb and you know he broke down and wept broke down and wept before the man and he said I can see that you are very very sorry for it but you know he said to me he said I wept because I saw the power of God you see something that he could not handle himself something beyond his means something you see which it wasn't his fault and you see the Lord how the Lord had brought that great man as a lion to become as a lamb he's the power of

[41:54] God you see you do not know poor soul but you see whatever you may be walking in whatever trial you may be walking in whether great or small as we call it you be still you go to God about it you see his face concerning it poor soul you come before him pleading with him and you know he will show you his power he can bring as I says I've spoken of this case a lion as a lamb he can bring a huge mountain in your path he can bring it as a plain and you know in these things by these things men live and you'll prove this you see the power of
