[0:00] As the Lord may be pleased to help me, I would again direct you prayerfully to Matthew chapter 5 and verse 6. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. [0:20] Wonderful promise here, they shall be filled. God's promises are true. God will fulfil the desires of those that he's called by grace. [0:38] And oh, we often feel to lack the grace that we need to help us to continue. To being able to bear witness of what the Lord has revealed to us in our pathway. [0:55] We are tempted sometimes to give it all up. That's when the enemy comes in. We've made very conscious of the enemy of our souls. [1:08] And all these hindrances in coming to the mercy seat. Because we want real things, as we think, in this world, that we see with a natural eye. [1:22] But far be it. It is the eye of faith. The eye of the soul. The soul that has these sincere desires. [1:32] To seek after Jesus' love. It's not natural. It's far from being natural. It is the spiritual mind, quickened by his grace. [1:46] That brings you to know some of these blessings. That will truly enrich your soul and mind. Jesus speaks. And speaks to thee. [1:57] Say, poor sinner. Lovest thou me? More than these. We're in the world. We're part of it. But oh Lord, those things that draw you and me aside. [2:12] Those are the flesh. That looks after fleshly, excitable things. Which the devil will very much try to allure you and draw you aside. [2:26] Nothing like the alluring of Jesus. I will allure you and bring you into the wilderness. What a mercy if he's made the world to you and me at times. [2:40] It won't be all the times, especially in early days in our lives. We are attracted by the natural eye to natural things. [2:51] There are those necessities of life that we look upon. And we know that they are necessary in the sight of God. But they're not, dear friends, to overshadow the things that are most needful for the welfare of your soul and mine. [3:10] And so we bless God for the record in his word of the great multitudes that were gathered to them. [3:21] And he didn't preach them material things. He preached them unto them himself. And God the Father. [3:31] That we might be called the children of God. And we are pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [3:45] Once we have been called and quickened by his grace. It's a great mystery. But God is formed in your heart the hope of glory. [3:56] The object of your soul's desires and mine. To have a hunger and thirst after righteousness. We do have to pray for the Lord to keep us from that self-righteousness and pride. [4:13] And not be left to be a Pharisee. But we're exhorted that we need to exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. [4:27] That we shall at last enter into the kingdom of God. Kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of God suffereth violence. And the violent take it by force. [4:37] And we look to him to grant us a spiritual mind. We know it's a carnal mind. And intermingled with the carnal mind are spiritual things. [4:53] And they're very precious when the Lord applies them. And we need that they lead us to Christ. Lead us to Christ. Lead and guide me into the truth. [5:04] And Lord, just don't lead me to it. But make it attractive to me. Make it powerful in the influence of my walk and my conduct. [5:17] That I'm following on to know thee. You see, we need to, he said, be perfect like I am perfect. But it's complete. [5:27] That word perfect means you're complete in him. Your favor to know that righteousness covers all your sins. [5:41] The robe of righteousness. And it's not being, come not nigh me, I am holy than thou. That's the Pharisees' religion. But the righteousness of Christ imputed by the Spirit. [5:54] And we bless the Lord for his truth. That we want to feel the effects more of it. And that we might dwell more upon these blessedness. [6:06] That we come through the truth of the gospel. And to be made wise unto salvation. Through the merits of Jesus. And there's no other way. [6:17] Lead me to Calvary. Lead me in the paths of righteousness. For his name's sake. And grant, O Lord, that I might be kept by the power of God. [6:28] In that narrow way. And to be following in the footsteps of Christ. And you may say, well, that's a hard thing to do. Is it? If you'll be born again. [6:41] You'll walk in the fear of the Lord. You'll look to have that grace. I know there's two opposites in us. The calm mind we'll ever carry to our death. [6:52] Is enmity to God. But the spiritual mind will give life and peace. On occasions when the Lord favors you. To be nourished and fed. [7:03] To know those living waters. And have water from the wells of salvation. To satiate your soul and mine. With those moments of truth. [7:15] That are applied. That he tells you. Yea, I've loved thee well, my child. And he constrains you by the love of Christ. To follow him. In the footsteps of the flock of God. [7:28] This is the way. Walk in it. When you turn to the right. Or to the left. And there'll be that purification. In your heart and mind. [7:38] When Jesus. Is in the. Uppermost. Place in your feelings. And in your souls. We have to confess. We're not always there. [7:50] But are those sweet moments. When we're brought before the cross. To consider him. That endured such contradiction. Of sin as himself. Lest we be faint. [8:01] And wear it in the mind. And you will know very much. Being wearied in the minds. You seem to. Long. And pant. [8:12] After the living water brooks. That he might draw water. For you. And me. To water ourselves. And it might be as a. Well watered garden. [8:23] And flourish. And bear fruit. In the courts of the Lord. And this is what we fear. Is lacking in the day. But he's still the same Jesus. And there's no change with him. [8:34] Blessed. Blessedly. We will be. Mindful of these mercies. And we look to him. To favor us. With this purification. [8:46] Of our souls. Through the merits of Jesus. That he were. That he were. Perfect that. That concerneth. You and me. [8:56] In the reality. Of this robe of righteousness. Lest the shadow of a spot. Should on my soul be found. He takes the robe. The saviour wrought. [9:07] And casts it. All around. Covered. With a mantle of his forgiving love. For your unworthy soul. And mine. But you see. [9:19] You will have those sincere desires. To be have brought to your remembrance. The tokens of his everlasting love. They shall be filled. And what joy there is. [9:31] In heaven. Over one sinner that repented. Rather than ninety-nine. That have no need of repentance. Blessed be Jesus. For this. Hunger. [9:42] This thirst given you. And me. And. You will be satisfied alone. When you and I. After death. Awake. [9:52] In his likeness. Oh what a blessed. Gift is the. Gift of salvation. All of his free and sovereign grace. Oh what a mercy. [10:03] If you're hungry. And thirsting. Remember here. The Lord was preaching. To this multitude. And though we don't have such multitudes. [10:14] In our day. Only. In those places. Dear friends. Where it's all of the flesh. Gloring in the flesh. But we must not glory in the flesh. [10:26] God forbid that I should glory. Say in the cross of Christ. My. Lord. By whom the world is crucified. I don't know. There's a crucifixion. You know. Of the things of this world. [10:37] We have to learn. To hold them with a loose hand. And. Seeking first. The kingdom of God. And his righteousness. And all these other things. [10:49] Shall be added unto you. You can't buy yourself. In that way. Into heaven. Can you. What a mercy that is. So. It's for poor and needy sinners. [11:00] Seeking water. And there is no. The tongue. Faith. And the thirst. I. The Lord. Will hear them. Oh how we have to be brought. Minished. And brought love. With tribulatory. Pathways. [11:11] To walk in. But I am the Lord. And so he says. I am the Lord. I fail not. He fails not. [11:21] Dear friends. He has conquered. Sin. Death. And hell. For such sin as you and me. What a mercy. Hunger. Thirst. Righteousness. [11:31] Which shall be imputed. To such as you and me. Blessed be the Lord. He knows the way you take. He knows. The circumstances. [11:42] You were born in. He knows how you have been brought up. And you have to witness sometimes. Those following generations. Have walked away. [11:52] Run away. There is so much of the world. And such for some of you. But you are washed. You are sanctified. You are justified. In the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ. [12:04] What a refuge. What a refuge. For poor blind creatures of the day. Whose eyes are understanding and light. [12:14] And behold those wondrous things. Out of the book of thy law. And they become desperate. For a. For a crime and mercy. And also. [12:25] For these living waters. Whereby. You are cleansed. You are cleansed. And that. That water. And the blood of Christ. [12:36] That flowed. From his ribbon side. Oh. Blessed be the Lord. And we would hold fast. To these truths. In spite of it. The devil may sneer at you. [12:47] And do his utmost. To turn you and me. Out of the way. Out of the way. But as we said earlier. I will allure them. And bring them into the wilderness. And speak comfortably. [12:59] Unto them. Is not this you want to be comforted? He said. I will not leave you comfortless. I will come to you. Come to you. Oh well. [13:10] You will have experienced him coming to you. There'll be all those mountains. That will be risen by the devil before you. But who art thou. Who art thou great mountain before? [13:22] He said. Brother bull. Prince of peace. Thou shalt be made a plain. Oh what a mercy. But the Lord. Gives you that power. [13:32] When you're ready to faint. And. He waits. For. A set time to favour you. With these gracious tokens. Of his love. Oh it's poor not on thyself. [13:45] To long. Lest it sink thee lower. Look to Jesus kind and strong. Mercy. Joined with power. All that power. That he bestows upon you and me. [13:58] When you despair sometimes. Of ever. Having. These tokens. The bread of life sent down from heaven. And. [14:09] Living water. From heaven. You might draw water. From these glorious wells of salvation. You feel. [14:19] You feel sometimes. You're all dried up. You feel. There's a famine in the land. And the hearing of the word. You feel. The waters are dried up. [14:31] When will I. Receive. This thirst. I thirsting. I'm thirsting. After the living God. God. Like. Like. [14:41] You see. We read in the scriptures. You feel to be dried up. And you feel sometimes. Wow. Barren is my soul today. [14:54] And I come and hope. To. To have my hunger satisfied. And my thirst also. With tokens of his love to my soul. [15:05] But do remember. He is a sovereign. He waits to be gracious. He tarries off to men of faint. And comes at evening late. But come he will. He cannot. [15:18] Dear friends. Forsake. And the names of the. Those that. God the Father. Chosen to be saved. And the time of love will come. [15:28] When they shall surely see. Not only that he shed his blood. But he shall say for me. How solemn. How sacred. That the Lord Jesus Christ. Has shed his blood on Calvary's tree. [15:40] To save your soul. And it will often be. Why me. Why me. But. Blessed be the Lord. He'll bring you into these beatitudes. [15:53] And you'll. You'll see there. Something. That will cause you. And me to be humbled. As he says. Why me. Why me. And so. [16:05] We need that righteousness. Of Christ. Don't we. And so. The kingdom of heaven. Will suffer violence. The force of. A united Christ. [16:17] Power can no longer. We stand. And so. We bless the Lord. Do we not. For his goodness. And his mercy. Have touched. Their hearts. Sometimes. [16:29] We know. There's very much. Carnality. About us. And as I've said earlier. Will be. Till we die. I. But when we get into these spiritual situations. When we look to the Lord alone. [16:41] That single eye. And our body might be full of that light. Of the knowledge of the glory of God. In the face of Christ Jesus. Nothing else can satisfy him. It's. [16:51] Give me Christ. For our privilege. With. With these multitudes. But how many. That were saved. We're not told. [17:02] But we know. It shall be a remnant. According. To the election of grace. So this hunger. This thirst. After the living God. [17:14] Oh do cover me Lord. With the mantle of thy forgiving. I sow in tears. Yes. Yes. And you will sow in tears. Your problems are so great. [17:26] Your problems. Are. Incurable. Sometimes you feel. When will they come Lord. But you still plead. You still ask. [17:37] You still beg. You'll be a beggar poor. At mercy's door. Lord. I'm ready to die. I'm ready to faint. And I haven't. This righteousness. [17:47] I've not had this pardon. I've not. Had thee drive out. The buyers. And the sellers. That seem to. Tempt me. And try me. To. [17:59] To. To give it all up. But you never can. If you're his. You may backslide. Oh. We may often backslide. We may murmur. [18:11] And complain. With our lot. God. And we never seem. To be satisfied. But you see. There will be evidences. In our life. [18:21] If we're born of God. It isn't trusting. Dry doctrine. It's. We want a living doctrine. We want a living. Saviour. We want one. [18:32] That can speak. With us. We can commune. With him. Off the mercy seat. That we might truly. Have our hunger. Satisfied. For a little season. [18:42] And our thirst. Quenched. Oh. Blessed Jesus. For living waters. A fountain. Open for sin. And uncleanness. The dying thief. Rejoiced. [18:55] To see it. In his day. And the one. Want to say. Thereby. As vile as he. Washed all my sins away. Oh. Blessed mercy. When he comes. And his mercifully. Be in me. [19:06] And grant you. Me. That. He has given you. And me. A living evidence. That I am born of God. Oh. Where your treasure is. [19:17] There will your heart be. And where will mine. We bless God. As I say. For providential blessings. Here. But I feel to be very favoured. In so many ways. [19:29] But there will be something. Will dampen your spirits. And mine. In the pathway. Of tribulation. That wretched foe. Dear things. The enemy of our souls. [19:41] That comes in like a flood. The adversary. Oh. And we. Have to pray. Lord. Do drive. Do deliver us from the adversary. [19:53] And drive out these buyers. And deliver my soul out of prison. That I might yet be fed. With living bread. [20:05] Crumbs from the master's table. Sips from the wells of salvation. Lord. Give me a true token. I faint. Lord. For the living God. [20:16] And oh. I can't seem to. Get my testimony. Together. As I would desire it to be. That I might have that blessed assurance. [20:27] And good hope for a grace. That. He is my saviour. That he has eternally loved me. And if by the grace of God. [20:37] Your names are recorded in the book of life. He will not leave you forever. For that be set time. To favour your soul. With the pardon. And with the assurance. [20:49] That you are. On your way to heaven. He made it secure. And all your blessing for it. He satisfied. [21:01] That aching void. That the world could not fill. By giving you. Spiritual blessings. In heavenly places. In Christ Jesus. And you have gone on your way rejoicing. [21:13] You have been filled. Your cup run over. I think I mentioned this morning. And so it is. You have gone your way rejoicing. He has changed my heart. [21:23] Renewed my will. Returned my feet. Designed. It must be so in your life. Some real evidence. It is not being satisfied. Because you have attended. [21:35] The house of God all your life. That was not satisfaction. It is what the Lord has spoken to you. My sheep hear my voice. Oh be very careful. Whether you are grabbing at straws. [21:48] Straws won't save you. It's what the Lord has revealed. What he's applied with power to yourself. You know you are hastening to hell. [21:58] If you have nothing. To be unable to speak of them. Lord granted you the acceptance of hearing the gospel. You're not satisfied. You've not got a full hunger or thirst as yet. [22:12] But you know this. That he is the one thing needful to sinners. And he speaks. As I just said. My sheep hear my voice. And I know them. [22:23] Has he known you? Has he given you this appetite for the gospel? Has he unlocked the door of your heart? And come in and supped with you. [22:34] And me with him. All that union and communion. With him from off the mercies. Other refuge have I known. Hangs my helpless soul alone. [22:45] Leave me not alone. Stay calm and comfort my troubled hearts. Bless God if you've got a troubled heart. For the gospel. [22:56] Time will come when he will break through the gloom. When he bring your soul out of prison. And your praise. Loose him and let him go. Oh what a mercy to be loosed. [23:09] Loosen from the bonds dear friends. And sin and death. Righteousness. Righteousness. Will exalt Christ in your walk. [23:20] And your conduct and mine. But oh we seem to become so sure. Your poor tried child of God. They shall be filled. [23:31] And we will dwell a little on that. That you will be filled. Joy and peace. You'll die in peace if you're one of his. [23:43] You cannot dear friends withhold it. Because it's all appointed. In my fair book of life and grace. I may find my name recorded in some humble place. [23:53] Beneath my Lord the Lamb. Blessed mercy. The righteousness of God. Covers all your sins. [24:04] With the mantle of his forgiving love. What a privilege. And what a mercy if you're privileged to know this. You've received some hands full of purpose. [24:15] You've taken them home. You've beaten them out. You've been satisfied. With the. Delivering you from your hunger. [24:27] And your thirst. For the living God. The living Saviour. Who said because I live. Shall ye live also. What a promise to your soul and mine. [24:42] He says look unto me all the ends of the earth. And beside me there is no Saviour. But I will draw you by the cords of man. By the bands of my love. Jesus saves. [24:54] Rome enslaves. And so we realize the reality of that religion. Things known. Things felt in your soul. And you bless God. [25:06] He purifies your soul. With the cleansing work of his grace. And his grace is sufficient strength. Made perfect in weakness. [25:17] You glory in your infirmities. That the power of Christ. May rest upon you. Is anything too hard for the Lord? Nothing. When we think of Abraham and Sarah's birth. [25:32] Well past age. You see these promises. These impossibilities. Of God. In your sight. Are possible with him. [25:43] At the set time. Nothing is impossible with God. They only reflect upon that. In your eyes. You feel. [25:53] To. Feel that you are lost. There's no hope for you. In God. God. But. Do not deny. [26:04] What God has said. All things are possible for God. And all things work together for good. To those that love God. To those who are called. According to his purpose. [26:15] You need that heavenly calling. The sheep of Christ. Not the goats. They're discarded. But this is the sheep. They hear my voice. [26:28] They follow me. And I give unto them eternal life. Through the imputed righteousness of Christ. What a mercy. The gift of eternal life. [26:40] Through the merits of Jesus. Blessed are they then. You see. They're delivered from the curse. Of the broken law. It's the opposite. Isn't it? And so. [26:53] The name of Christ. Is. The name. That they want. To be revealed to. You see. My sheep. Hear. My voice. We keep coming back to that. [27:06] And that's. Where you're standing. You'll be in the merits of Christ alone. Oh Lord. Speak to my heart. Tell me. That I am born of God. And that my treasure is above. [27:18] A little of that treasure in your earth and vessel. Which we speak of from time to time. And you shall know the truth. Of the freedom of condemnation. [27:29] In Christ Jesus. What a mercy. You've hungered. You've come. As a meek person. You've probably known all these characters that we read of. [27:41] The meek. The hungry and thirsting. After righteousness. The merciful. And the pure in heart. And the peacemakers. And they which are persecuted for righteousness sake. [27:54] For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. What a mercy to be favored then. And even when men revile you. And persecute you. And shall say all manner of evil against you. [28:05] For my sake. Rejoice. Well if the Lord says rejoice. You will rejoice. But it's waiting for him. It's tarrying his. Tarrying his. [28:16] Visits isn't it. Tarrying his. As you then. Wait the appointed hour. Wait to the bridegroom of your soul. Reveal your. Himself. With power. There's no power like the power of Christ. [28:30] Resting upon you. He was tempted. Yes. And if we follow in his footsteps. We'll be tempted too. But. Because he's overcome. [28:41] You'll overcome. You'll fight the good fight of faith. You'll lay hold on eternal life. Because he has brought you. You're most dear to him. Even though he hates your sins. [28:53] He doesn't hate your soul. Because. That soul has been called by grace. And that grace shall endure unto the end. And you'll be saved at last. [29:04] Yes. And what a mercy to dwell in heaven forevermore. To get away from this. Sin stained world. Sin entered the world. [29:15] And death by sin. But blessed be the Lord. He will fill his souls. Of his people chosen in the covenant. And. [29:26] They will be filled with joy. And they go on their way rejoicing. And sometimes. No doubt. Some of you. All of you. Ultimately. With trust. [29:36] Will be. Filled with joy and peace. In believing. Because there's no other way. Where we can. Overcome. Sin. Death. [29:47] And hell. But through the merits of Jesus. Object. Of my first desire. Jesus crucified for me. And you'll be crucifying the world. As grace is given. [29:59] And you'll endure unto the end. And be saved. And here little and there little. Line upon line. Precept upon precept. Will he bestow upon yourself. And you'll be looking unto Jesus. [30:10] Who for the joy. That was sent before him. And due of the cross. Despising the shame. And is sent down. At the right hand of God. There to intercede for us. [30:23] Your prayers and mine. Will be far from perfect. Until the spirit. Anoints you. From on high. And he will do it. He does do it. [30:34] He gives you a heart. Made tender. In his fear. He indicts prayer. Into your soul. Oh feed me Lord. Till I want no more. [30:45] Of this everlasting righteousness. Show me a token of thy love. And tell me. That I am born of God. And they shall be filled. [30:57] Oh and they'll go on your way. Rejoicing. And you'll prove to be. Though you may not feel it. You're the salt of the earth. And you sometimes feel. [31:09] You're going to lose this savor. Wherewith shall it be sorted. It is thenceforth good for nothing. But to be cast out. And to be trodden. Under the foot of men. And this is the religion. [31:21] Dear friends. Of the flesh. Salt of the earth. But you've transgressed. Transgressed. You've lost your savor for Christ. [31:32] Because he's withdrawn. But if you are a child of God. He will come again. And he will come for your troubled heart. [31:43] And he will say unto you. Stand still and see the salvation of God. It's not a works. It's all of his free and sovereign grace. Is sufficient for you. Strength made perfect in weakness. [31:54] You glory in your infirmity. That the power of Christ may rest upon you. And what a blessed time that is. He draws you. By the cords of man. [32:05] By the bands of his love. And this is satisfying. Your hunger for a little season. And your thirst. Because you know. [32:15] That without him. You can do nothing. But you can do all things through Christ. That strengthens you. Even Paul had to come there. I can do all things through Christ. [32:27] That strengthens me. In running with patience. The race set before me. Looking unto Jesus. Or to be at clearer views of him. Be persuaded that nothing can separate you. [32:40] From the love of God. Which is in Christ Jesus your Lord. And you'll go in the strength of that meat. For many days. Early days. It's the sincere milk of the word. [32:52] You might receive. And there'll be a measure of faith and exercise. That sincere milk of the word. That you might grow in grace. That you might grow in the knowledge of Christ. [33:03] You might win Christ. And be found in him. Not having your own righteousness. Which is of the law. But that righteousness is which through faith. In the son of God. Who gave himself for you. [33:15] Blessed Jesus. Formed in your heart and mind. The hope of glory. Oh what a refuge then. For sinners. The gospel makes known. [33:26] It is found in the merits of Jesus. And now. Him must be exalted. And. Sin bitten sinners will look to him. [33:39] Oh it's poor not on thyself too long. Lest it sink thee lower. Look to Jesus kind and strong. Mercy joined with power. Oh we do limit. [33:50] God's. Help don't we. We do limit God's power. God's willingness. And God. Gives sinners. Obedience. [34:01] To hearken. And to obey him. And to follow him. And. To pray. That he will never leave you. [34:12] Nor forsake you. As you hold fast. To these form of same words. That he's applied. He gives you a crumb. He gives you a sip. [34:23] He gives something. That. Looks beyond. This hunger and thirst. But looks to one. That can fill you. With all joy and peace. [34:34] In believing. Oh what a refuge. Then. Can be found. In the merits of Jesus. And he'll fill you. With fat things. And wine upon the leaves. [34:44] Well refined. This is my Jesus. Has opened the channel of mercy. For you and for me. And we humbly pray. That we're not. Deceived. [34:56] But that we might bring forth. Fruits. Of. Righteousness. As he feels. As he. Covers you. With the mantle. Of his forgiving love. [35:06] And you grow in grace. And the knowledge. Of the Lord. They shall be filled. And they shall obtain mercy. They shall see God. [35:17] They shall be called. The children of God. And theirs is the kingdom of heaven. May the Lord. In his mercy. Grant us that gathering together. [35:28] From time to time. Here below. And afterwards. Received in the glory. He's made your heaven secure. While he's made your heaven secure. [35:40] What can I want beside. But the merits of Jesus. Object of your soul. Object of your soul. [35:50] Desired. Jesus himself. Crucified. And cancelled out. All your sins. And all mine. Blessed Jesus. [36:02] He will be. The object then. Of your soul and mine. Lord Jesus. Shine into my heart. And give me knowledge. And understanding. Of the truth. [36:13] That I might win him. Win his affections. And be found in him at last. Covered. With a mantle. Of his. Forgiving love. For they shall be filled. [36:26] May the Lord. Bless his own word today. And pardon all of this. For his name's sake. Amen. Let us conclude. [36:37] Our service today. With hymn number. 80. The tune is Innocence 474. Blessed are the sons of God. [36:49] And that includes the daughters. Of course. They are bought with Jesus' blood. They are ransomed from the grave.
