[0:00] The words I would venture to try and make a few remarks from, you will find in the 33rd chapter of the book of Exodus, verses 14 and 15, 14th and 15th verses. [0:30] Now the 33rd chapter of the book of Exodus, and he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. [0:47] And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us, nor repent. [1:00] We notice in reading the chapters in Exodus, that Moses was a man of like passion, as you and I. [1:19] Therefore, this same man of whom we read of this morning, Moses, had seen God's wonders of all. [1:34] In the first place, how that God had made him a leader, though he felt unfitied for it, though he could point when a man feels unfitied. [2:00] How about in his case, he felt unfitied. As you know, he beheld and saw God's wonders wrought in Egypt. [2:18] He saw how that God delivered and could deliver by his terrible acts. [2:32] And he beheld how the children of Israel were brought out by a mighty and outstretched arm. [2:50] He saw also the great deliverance at the Red Sea. [3:07] When the enemies were driving behind, the wind see before them. [3:22] They do it, could not turn to the right hand or land. Yet God bid them to go forward. This and many other things he beheld. [3:38] He beheld also the time when they came. Notice the historical part of God's word I'm speaking here. It's the experience of God's people. [3:52] They came to the waters of Mara. Bitter waters. [4:04] Have you been brought to the waters of Mara? And sees God's wonders wrought. Or into those places one has already mentioned. [4:21] Seen the enemy cast out before you. And brought forth out of nature's darkness. Into his marvelous land. [4:36] By a mighty and outstretched arm. And see his wonders wrought. In your own experience. [4:48] When you felt well I overthrown. But having come to the waters of Mara. [5:04] The troubles, trials and afflictions that may be in your path. You may have said at the time I can't partake of this. [5:23] That the waters are bitter. But you know. It is in these places that we prove. [5:36] That Christ. The tree of life. And he's been cast into all the bitter waters of trial. [5:49] Difficulties and sorrows. He has enabled us to partake of them. And hath taught us. [6:09] That it is he and he only that can sweeten. Every bitter cough. And he does it. [6:23] By entering into the heart. Overthrowing. All the unbelief. [6:35] And all the fear that arrives. And gives us. And gives us all a taste. Of himself the living water. [6:52] Which is sweet. Out of the taste. Here it is a time when joy. Filled for heart. [7:04] And we are unable to say. That the way he hath brought us. [7:18] And we're right. Well Moses experienced all these secrets from me. And I believe saw in them. [7:28] Also. Are those things which. [7:41] Are applicable. Are to. The leading and teaching. Of the spirit. To the soul. For. For. [7:51] For. For. For. We believe. That all God's word. Is built. Is by. Inspiration. And that. [8:02] In the old. Testament. There is embodied. All the blessedness. Of the gospel. [8:14] That came through. The Lord. And Savior. Jesus Christ. Be not deceived. [8:26] Son of. For any of those things. May be spoken in thine ear. By false prophets. By deviser. To. [8:41] To. Turn aside. The old testament. Say. We have no need of it. Because. [8:52] It is here. We have. The revealings. Of those good things to come. Which did come. [9:07] And were made known. And made manifest. When our Lord. And Savior. Came here on earth. Yea. [9:20] We believe. From Genesis. To Revelation. The word of God. In one blessed home. For our dear Savior. [9:32] We know you are on earth. So plainly declared. He spoke of those things. Concerning himself. [9:44] That was spoken by the prophets. And Moses. And in the Psalms. So that I say. [9:55] Be not deceived. By the craft. And deceit. Of the. Of the. Enemy of soul. And the enemy of God. We believe. [10:08] It is rampant. In the day we live. When many are. Left to believe. In lies. And being left. [10:18] In that condition. Must fall into hell. And perish. We want. We want. We want. We want. We want. [10:29] We want something more. And those things. Which. Men may gather together. By some of their own. [10:40] Crafty. Imaginations. We want. We want. We want. We want. We want those things. That. God will teach in the soul. [10:57] Not so much. By our own study. By the walking on the mountain. We want. The pathway. Of sorrow. [11:11] Distress. And affliction. Some less. Some more. Others set up a standard here. The trial there will be. [11:23] Of some poor. More of us. And the greatest of all. Will be the trials. [11:33] And tribulations. That the soul. Passes through. One poet declares. Concerning the soul. That it passes. [11:44] As though. Through it had itself. Well. Well. Well. Moses then. Though he had. Beheld. [11:55] All these. Great things. That took place. In his pathway. And the children of Israel. Did he come to a place. Again here. As God. [12:09] Spoken unto him. That he had. Moses said he. Had not told him. [12:19] Who he would send with him. Well. It appears here. That he. His presence. Should go with him. Presence. [12:33] Admit himself to him. Yes. His presence. It means himself. And he said. My presence. [12:45] Shall go with him. But it's all doing well. To feel his presence. Is with us. Very easy to feel it. [12:59] When everything is going well. With us. Whether it doesn't seem. Much to disturb. Things in Providence. Going along. [13:10] Very comfortable. Not much. Exercise. In the soul. Health. In good. In a good condition. [13:26] When we come into these places. Like Moses came here. Then we shall want. To cry. And return to him. That his presence. [13:39] Might be with us. Well. His presence is with his people. At all times. [13:52] His presence. Was with his people. And there. And there. There they be. I may put that right. There. His presence. [14:06] Was with them. When they were brought forth. And all mankind. On this earth. [14:20] I'm often trying to. Think of. That particular time. When this force. Was brought forth. As to his presence. [14:37] Being. With me then. Well. It must have been so. Because you know. [14:51] We believe. In the eternal decrees. And settlements of God. They were from. All eternity. [15:01] And that our lives. Minutest. Circumstance. Is subject. [15:13] To his own. So that our birth. His presence. Is with us. [15:26] My presence. Then shall go with thee. In our childhood. And in our being. [15:39] For his presence. And his care over us. Is preserving care. [15:54] We shall not be here. In the platform of time. Bear with me here. [16:06] On these particular points. We look back upon life's journey. He saved this poor sinner. [16:18] Through his presence. A watery drain. He had a lot of moment space. [16:29] To spare. I want to be no more. Is there not a cause? [16:47] You know. When we behold these things. It gives us. That. Confidence. Not a false confidence. [16:58] Confidence. It gives us that confidence. That though the enemy. Comes with many. [17:09] A piercing doubt. Comes off times to. Cause unbelief. To sow to work. [17:20] That we wonder. That we wonder. If we know anything safely. The voices he cannot take from us. [17:35] Though often have tried. The Lord. The Lord. The Lord. The Lord. The Lord. The Lord. Will provide. To provide us with his presence. [17:53] His presence then. He says. It shall go with thee. No penitent about it. [18:05] It overthrows all the powers. Of everything else. It overthrows the power of Satan. It shall. [18:22] Power of unbelief. Sure I may be troubled with. I believe unbelief. is one of the worst troubles of a child of God. [18:42] They are passing through times of destitution, times of trouble, soul trouble. [18:55] There is nothing so bitter, I feel, as destitution. To feel absolutely destitute. [19:08] You know what that means literally, to be destitute. That means I am nothing. No place of abode. [19:19] Nowhere to rest. No comfort. Some might say, Well surely a child of God doesn't come into these places. [19:36] Well perhaps you haven't been there. But if you are one of God's children he will bring you there. Sooner or later. Old Carl will reason and say, Well why is this? [19:53] Surely that shouldn't be. So you add sorrow to sorrow. By presence. His presence will uphold. [20:12] Against all the craft and deceit of an enemy. Who loves to calm by weakest mark in your destitution. [20:32] I'll tell you I believe God's purpose to permit us to come into a place of destitution. [20:46] To wean us away from self. For I've lived long enough to know that self is our worst enemy. [20:57] who cause you more mourning. That many hate who mourn over self. [21:13] For self will often we plow against God's dealings with you. [21:25] So I don't deserve this. I've tried to live a better life. I've tried to do this than the other. [21:40] I go to chapel as often to author open. And some are left to say how many things I am doing for Christ. [21:53] But my friends has there been a little Pharisee pride mixed with it. Has there been some seeking our applause for whatever it might be as God in days of old chastised his people serving with you and I with us into destitution. [22:34] What are we going to do then? With all our gritted self-righteousness what we've done for Christ. and all our enthusiasm all those things that might be in our hearts that leave a short son that we ask into a place I say again of destitution. [23:07] and we do not realize through all this season his with us his presence. [23:26] His ultimate end to bring us into a place of true confession. confession. It's right to commit you in confession. [23:44] Wearily speaking if I may speak for my soul my lips said many things in confession. My friends it's only just recently on one or two occasions I believe I've only I've known what real confession is. [24:04] it's coming like a dear woman to his feet. It won't be brought to his feet easy. [24:17] Sounds easy. Brought to his feet the old iron of the iron be brought to his feet. [24:30] heart. And there are humble confession for that's what it is. The act of it in our soul's experience. [24:46] There are wiping what is peaked with your tears. Wipe them in the hairs of iron. men. These are those characters. [25:07] See where he brings down arms. Brings down the lofty heart. And brings down all those things that are the flesh. [25:19] soul worships him. And if they are nearer to heaven at those moments when I say that might mean that they are with all their many activities those things that are ready find of their flesh. [25:49] And to say what a big Christian I am. I've done so much for Christ. And I'm so happy. Oh my friends my delusions. [26:04] When God comes and teaches us shows out the fundamentals of true religion then I am sure God he'll take us like he did do in hand and he will be caused it to come to pass and be plunged into the ditch to our own close of us. [26:44] Away goes your old self righteousness. Away goes all that you've done for Christ. And if we're in the ministry it'll make us feel the least of everyone. [27:00] Wonder why God ever took notice of us for his face on faith for us. Well we should never strive the iron seats in the markets. [27:13] We should never strive for the highest places in the synagogue. If we'd creep away we would my friend. I told that many at the time only I could creep away rather than to go into the port. [27:32] You'll find my friends my words be true God brings us. If I might find but one spot beneath the throne of all the land some humble place. [27:51] Now this is not us by nature. Man would be something but our dear Savior's teaching is not there. He'd teach it how he was himself lowly and with other things. [28:17] He knew when he was reviled reviled again. The wildable thing my friend when we are to the world. he can take it patiently. [28:29] He should do it. There's time when God enables us to do that. Take it patiently and they come get out of enemies and do it down. [28:41] Like our dear saved, Father, forgive me. They now know what they do. I'm sure you'll never have bitterness in your heart against another. [28:54] He'd rather deal with you because he'll bring you to a spot which my soul and God. He'll bring you to a place, my friends, when he'll bring you away from everything else on earth. [29:11] I've been there very much in the last few days. I feel that I've got nothing. If I haven't got those things that are real in my soul, I've got nothing. [29:29] I want those things that are real and solid. Therefore, you know, we know not what hour he may come, whether he shall come in the first, second, third or fourth, watch, but he will come. [29:47] Blessed are those that when he come are watching. What I say unto you, I say unto all, watch. [30:02] We may be ready to go home to meet the prime will. The hour of his appointment. man, that his presence now may be with us. [30:20] And he said, my presence shall go with me and I will give thee rest. [30:32] rest. So then, he promised him not only his presence, but he would give him rest. I didn't say when. [30:45] I didn't say when. There was now and then, he gave him rest from the bottom. [30:55] time. But you know, he was only just at this particular time, he was rolling only at the beginning of it, as it were, in his experience with taking the children of Israel on the journey through the wilderness. [31:21] Then you see, though we read that he was meek of spirit. Yet I gave a time when, by the provocation of the children of Israel, he himself promoted by the day. [31:45] God reproved him for it, so that he was meek of he was when he was with Moses. [31:59] But a time, so it is, my friends. There are those times when we might speak unadvisedly. [32:09] things. And if you have the root of the battery, fine, you can't just wipe your mouth and say, I've done no evil. [32:24] He's things. He's think of me a trouble because there is a principle within. Ah, that would live without sin, without any wrong force. [32:43] God, the more I've tried to ask in my own case, trying to ask, the more keep the drawer of mine in, seems as though it's the reverse. [33:00] order teachers and make us sick and sick of self. Find with it, with itself. [33:19] He said, my presence shall go with me and I will give thee rest. Well, there are those times of rest. [33:30] when he brings us into a place like he did out to the waters of the bottom, to go out into the elm. [33:48] There would be the elm center, place of rest, where there were twelve wells in water, trees scored and ten palm trees, those wells of water to quench the forest, and the trees to shake them, from the hot sun of the desert, place of rest. [34:32] And also we might be full when he brings his children, his people to a place of rest. [34:46] rest. As in the twenty-third song, he made me to lie down in green parts. [34:59] He leaded me beside the still waters, his presence. rest. It's such that he being that good shepherd, he's up over the sheep, our favorite lie down. [35:26] Now, these green pastures are various. sometimes an affliction can be a green pasture. When we are failing to lie down in that green pasture of affliction, and in that affliction of the clear waters, of his heavenly love, and peace, and joy within, afflictions may not see. [36:14] What else would escape our sight? How they fire, and devour we, and God, how pure, and bright, we pass through the still waters, where we may have passed through the tempest of the seas, of affliction and trial. [36:52] Yet, he brings us into the still waters, whispers, peace, be still, though we may still be in the trouble. [37:08] But he brought a calm in the soul, enabled us to be able to say, blessed future, and have brought me more away from the world, more away from my trifling toys, more away from my earthly pleasures, more away from my rigid idols, and I may have within me whole more of it. [37:50] I bid thee all depart. I love those easy minds thoughts, jar the still waters of peace and joy that the world can never give. [38:14] hence then all those things that may be of a country or that may be appear to be to me a comfort when in themselves they are detestable to the pure all searching eye of God. [38:47] So I might swear it doesn't leave as many earthly pleasures. Well, God won't leave many of them. No misunderstanding us and here we prize the those things that has given us that we are likely to use for our confidence. [39:08] But I am speaking here of those things we may commit to be brought into the home anywhere else that are not according to this secret from him. [39:23] Our idols however they may be polished and we might have them in our home where at one time we would have not have thought of going to search for them no you can't shut them away from God you know God sees all things in your shoes and I don't want to want them how then he said to Moses and he said to Moses my presence shall go with thee and I will give thee perhaps for others could hold either or any to this name amen and or Thank you. [40:52] Thank you. [41:22] Thank you. [41:52] Thank you. Thank you. [42:24] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [42:58] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [43:10] Thank you. THE END THE END [44:12] THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END [45:14] THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END THE END The end of the night long, O yes, we know. [46:10] And the end of the night long, O yes, we know. [46:24] I will come to the end of the night long, O yes, we know. [46:38] May the grace of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the love of God, the Heavenly Father, the sweet communion and fellowship of the Holy Ghost for comfort in us, rest and abide with us, hold now, and put in the Lord. [47:11] Amen.
