[6:10] As the Lord shall be pleased to help me this evening, I would desire to ask your attention to the words which you will find in Psalm 9 and the last clause of verse 14.

[6:35] I will rejoice in thy salvation. Psalm 9 verse 14, the last clause.

[6:52] I will rejoice in thy salvation. This is a psalm of David and this is the language of David.

[7:07] But it would never have been the language of David had he remained ignorant of that salvation.

[7:18] My dear friends, this is the language of one who has experienced salvation.

[7:30] Well, in looking at this word, first of all, I would remind you of the necessity of salvation.

[7:46] And that which made salvation necessary is the fall of man.

[7:56] Herein we have a great mystery. For God made man upright.

[8:06] And yet the devil, as a serpent, entered into that garden, in which God had placed our first parents, and beguiled Eve.

[8:26] And Eve took of the forbidden fruit, and did eat it, and she gave to Adam, and he also ate of it.

[8:42] And so it was that Adam ruined posterity. For we are not to forget that the human race was in the loins of our first parents when they fell.

[9:05] But, oh, my dear friends, what sad consequences followed upon the fall.

[9:16] Why, the fall brought death, spiritual death, and the fall brought separation from God.

[9:32] And in that sad and solemn condition, the whole of mankind must have remained.

[9:43] But for that salvation which the gospel makes known. Oh, many deny the fall.

[9:58] Many seek to explain it away. But it is a truth we must ever contend for. And when we speak of the fall, we mean the complete fall.

[10:14] We mean that which is termed the total depravity of mankind. For man, through the fall, is utterly ruined.

[10:30] Oh, this is what made salvation necessary. It is the fall of man.

[10:45] But then, dear friends, you will notice that the psalmist says, I will rejoice in thy salvation.

[10:58] He terms this salvation, thy salvation. And so it is.

[11:09] For this salvation is not of man at all. It is of God. And we can say, as we thus speak of it, that it is God's salvation.

[11:28] For the Father purposed it. Oh, you know that if we can express it this way, God, by the eye of foreknowledge, saw the ruin of mankind, knew that man would fall, yet purposed to save a people out of the ruins of the fall.

[11:59] Oh, he purposed to save them. And to this end, he chose his own dear son to be their saver.

[12:11] And then chose his dear people in him. If I can just turn it up rather than misquote it.

[12:22] I think the poet expresses sweetly in that 73rd hymn what I am bringing before you.

[12:35] When he says, Christ be my first elect, he said. Then chose our souls in Christ our head.

[12:58] My dear friends. Thy salvation. It was purposed by the Father. But it was planned by Jehovah.

[13:16] Oh, we think and we try at times to speak about that covenant which was drawn up in eternity. That covenant which is ordered in all things and sure.

[13:33] That covenant of which the Lord says, My covenant will I not break. And in that covenant, the whole plan was laid out, drawn up.

[13:48] And that plan secured every needful blessing unto his dear people.

[13:59] The people of his choice. That is why we can sing this covenant. Oh, believer stands thy rising fears to quell.

[14:18] But it was not only purposed by the Father. Planned by Jehovah. But my dear friends.

[14:30] This salvation was provided by God. It is well for us to remember this.

[14:41] Because God went not out of himself to provide a saviour. He did not send an angel.

[14:55] He knew well that an angel could not perform that great and glorious work. No, the provision of that salvation is of God.

[15:15] Oh, no wonder then that the psalmist should say, I will rejoice in thy salvation.

[15:28] But my dear friends. This salvation is of God in the accomplishing of it.

[15:40] We sing of it like this. God in the person of his Son. Has all his wondrous works outdone.

[15:57] Thy salvation. Oh, to accomplish this. He stripped himself of his glory.

[16:07] And came into this world. And took a human nature. Into union with himself.

[16:19] Not two persons. One person. Both divine and human. That is why the poet could say, As he thus beheld him, All human beauties.

[16:37] All divine. In my beloved. Meet and shine. Yes. He took into union.

[16:51] With his divinity. A human nature. Here is a wonderful mystery. God incarnate.

[17:07] My dear friends. He was made of a woman. Made under the law. And this. That he could render.
