[0:00] I realized I did fail to give the announcements as the Lord grants me some help I would like to draw your attention to some thoughts found in the prophecy of Hosea in chapter 14 I would like to read the first three verses and then more or less try to dwell as the Lord helps me upon just a short clause O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity Take with you words and turn to the Lord Say unto him, take away all iniquity and receive us graciously So will we render the calves of our lives Asher shall not save us We will not ride upon horses Neither will we say any more to the work of our hands

[2:05] The place which had been occupied with all those many, many wicked kings such as Ahab and so forth Samaria shall become a desolate They shall become desolate For she hath rebelled against her God They shall fall by the sword Their infant shall be dashed in pieces And the woman with child shall be ripped up Then as we come into the fourteenth chapter Friends, we see something of the compassionate nature Of long-suffering God to his backsliding Israel For we find the Lord says Oh, Israel, return unto the Lord thy God As much as to say There is yet hope Now I realize With all the judgments which is pronounced upon the land of Israel In one respect, friends There was no turning back

[3:06] Of God's judgments But yet amongst all that great host of the children of Israel There was a little remnant For whom the Lord had yet a great compassion And he, as it were, bids this little remnant As much as to say Everything looks hopeless It looks as if there will be no return But yet could I bid thee To return yet unto the Lord When he speaks of them Thou hast fallen by thine iniquities Iniquities is, of course That which often speaks Of our depraved condition In other words, friends Our depraved condition Is the fountain Of all of our iniquity And all of our sin When Adam Becored his transgression Friends, we cannot say That he had iniquity

[4:07] Everything that proceeded out of Adam Was to the praise And to the honor of his God But being there in a covenant of works He fell, he broke And he became a fallen creature And nothing now could fall From his heart But now depraved On unwretched thoughts And we don't have to look For our friends To see man's depravity Immediately when Adam There, as it were Sinned against his God And broke that covenant We find him immediately Resorting to his own imagination Covering himself With his fig leaf righteousness And sought to hide himself From the all-seen eye of God In the garden of Eden Talk about man's depravity That's it, isn't it?

[5:03] And yet, friends What a mercy of God Has showed you something Of your own depravity But as man Covering himself With a fig leaf righteousness Even to this day Every man by nature Seeking to hide themselves From God Seeking to justify Their many actions And yet we find In the midst of all This departing The Lord in his Infinite love He had a people And he bids them As it were To return From their backslidden condition I realize, friends You may say It's to the backslider In other words To those who are already In possession of grace But I don't even know That I possess grace May I put it then These words are then Can be addressed To those that are sinners

[6:04] Now it is a sad thing If you are here This morning, friend And are a sinner But have no knowledge Of it What can I say I thought to myself To one such individual Who has no Knowledge of his sin All I can say to you Is this, friend You are a sinner And a deep-died sinner And your final end Will have to be In the pit of hell And that is The right judgment Which must be Knounced upon you But, oh, friend What a mercy To be a sinner And to know it To grieve over your past To grieve over what you are And to grieve over yourself As a sinner Now, friends When he says return He says return Unto the Lord Thy God As much as to say

[12:07] Other Words Take With You Words In Other Words Not To Come Upon Any Righteousness Nor Goodness Of Our Own Not Upon Any Of Our Own Confession Not Upon Any Works Which We Have Done Not Upon The Power Of Our Blood Our Relatives Or Whatever The Case Might Be Now That Is A Good Word Of Instruction But Friends Also There Is Also Something There Which Is Also Very In Comforting How Sad And How Discouraging Would Be If It Said In The Word Of God You Must Come Upon The Works Of The Law I Realize If You Were A Pharisee When I Say A Pharisee I Mean One Without Life

[13:08] Resting Upon Some Goodness Of Your Own If You Were A Pharisee You Would Say Ah That's Good I Can Come Upon The Works Of The Law I Can Come Upon Some Of The Works Of Self But If You Have Grace You Find It Is No Avail But If You Do Seek To Come Upon The Works Of Your Own You May Have A False Hope For Time But It Will Never Do For Eternity For When We Come To The Final Day Then We'll Be Like That Man Who Came With A Wedding Garment Or Without A Wedding Garment And He Was Cast Out Into Outer Darkness He Never Realized His That Of Which Was Wrong Until

[14:08] We Would Say The Last So We See Then Though It Is Instructive Yet It Can Be Very Comforting For If The Lord Had Brought You To See The True Nature Of His Law And The True Nature Of Yourself As A Sinner And A Condemned Sinner By The Law You Will Immediately Readily Believe I Mean Take Comfort From The Fact That Here Is A Mercy It Is Not By The Law The Verily Nature Of That Being Taught Thus Far You Will Know What It Is To Look Into Another Rain And Where There Is That Look Which Is God And Created By God Himself It Is That Look Of Faith Which Turns You To The Object Which Is The Lord Jesus So Again

[15:08] There Are Many Who Seek To Come Upon Some Type Of A Covenant Which Brings Them And Includes Them As It Were Because Of Their Fair Parents There Again Friend If God Begins To Show You Something Of Your Sin You Will Realize That Is A Flimsy Ground And Something You Can Take No Confident In If It Is By Any Good Deeds Naturally By A Good Upbringing By Being Can Kept From Many Of The Worldly Things All This Friends Will Be Stripped Away Because We Read In Our Text That All These Things Shall Not Save Us Nor The Works Of Our Hand But Here's A Mercy The Lord Says Take On To You Words What

[16:09] Are These Words Then Which We Would Say Speaks Of Positive First Of All Take With You Words To The Lord In The Confession Of Your Sin I Know You Won't We Know What It Is To Be A Sinner Unless The Lord Shows You But I'm Trying To Speak To Those Who Desire Salvation What Can I Say To The Ungodly Only I Could Say To You Flee From The Wrath To Come Call Upon The Lord That He Might Convert You And Save You And Others Come With Words That Is With A Confession Of Your Sin Openly Acknowledge You As A Sinner Lost And Undone That You Neither Have Strength Nor Might Nor Power Come With Those Words That

[17:09] That You May Plead His Word You Know That I Have Often Said Friend Take The Promises And Turn Them Into A Prayer I Told You That In My Early Day I Firmly Believed In My Soul That If I Would Seek The Lord I Would Find Him I Ask The Lord To Make Me A Seeker Because If He Would Make Me A Seeker Then I Would Surely Find Now That Is A Word Of Exhortation Seek He The Lord While He May Be Found And Call Ye Upon Him While He Is Near But It Can Also Be Made In A Matter Of Prayer In Other Words Teaching The Lord Saying I Know That Thou Art Near I

[22:14] Therefore There Would Be A Very Strange Judge Who Would Ever Turn To Such A Man And Says Well I'll Grant You A Pardon But It Is So Often In The Case Of Some Early Offender As He Comes Friends And He Makes His Confession Of His Sin Before The Judge He Bears His Heart Before Him He Hides Nothing And The Judge Might Read The Different Crimes But He Says To The Judge Those Were Only Part I Must Tell You There Were Other Things That I Have Committed Which Has Never Been Found Out Usually A Criminal Brought Face To Face With His Crimes Sometimes Will Confess That Of Which They Have Found Out But If They Would Inquire

[23:14] Now Have You Any Connection With This Crime Or That Crime Oh No No I Had Nothing To Do With That But Unless They Come And Proved It Well They Says Well Yes I Admit I Did In Other Words One Who Is Ever Going To Think Of Finding Pardon Is One Who Knows What It Is To Bear His Heart His Soul His Mind His Sins Before The Eyes Of Deity I Have Told You Before And Let Me Bear It Again I Say There Is Two Reasons Why The Lord Knows That I Am A Sinner First He Knows It By Seeing My Sin I Hope I Can Say That He Knows I Am A Sinner Because I Have Sought To Confess My Sins Before Him In Other Words Take With Your Words Knowing

[34:20] With You Words Upon The Ground Of His Attributes Oh What Glorious Attributes Describe The Person Of The Lord Everything In The Word Of God There Is For Your Comfort And For Your Consolation Friend Put It In A Very Simple Language You Need Not Go To Hell You Need Not Perish In Your Sin There Is A Fountain Nearby There Is A Savior There Who Saves To The Utter Most There Is One To Whom You Can Go In His Glorious Humanity And Therefore Friend Take With You Words And Come Upon The Ground That He Is God In Other Words I Can Trust No One Else But God Goodly Daniel Goodly Moses Marvelous Apostle Paul They Could Never Be As It Were The

[36:20] Has Not Gone By That I Have Quoted That Glorious Prayer Take With You Words I Know Smiting Upon Your Breast Friend Because There's The Pompant Of All Iniquity And Say God Be Merciful To Me A Sinner Take With You Words And Go On To Him And Ask Him That He Might Show You The Way Of Salvation Take With You Words And Tell Him You're Lost You're Lost And Undone You're On The Broad Way To Destruction And You Can't Find The Way To The Savior Take With You Words And Ask The Lord To Show You The Way And Lead You Into That Path Take With You Words Upon The Ground Of His Mercy The What What Else Could David Come When He Did A Great Sin Numbering The Children Of Israel He

[37:21] Says I Have Sinned Greatly But He Took With Him Words But Thy Mercy Is Great In Other Words Friends Great Sinners Great Mercy What A Combination What A Glorious Truth Friend That's Why I Say To You Take With You Words And Tell The Lord That He's A Merciful God And The Very Thing He Delights To Do Is To Bestow His Mercy To Hell Deserving Sinners Take With You Words Take With You Words Upon The Ground Of His Attribute Of His Grace Oh Grace Is A Precious Precious Precious Word It Means The Unmerited Favor Of God Oh We Have Forfeited All Right We Have Lost All As Were Any Good Hope And Sell We're

[38:21] Lost And Undone In Our Own Self But There Is A Gracious God Who Bestows Grace And Even The Greatest And The Vilest Of Sinner Where Paul Says Oh Sin Abounded He Came To The Glorious Place With All The Aboundings Of Sin There's The Aboundings Of His Grace Oh What A Precious Thought Dear Friend Take With Your Words And Go To The Lord And Say Be Gracious Unto Me Lord I Have No Merit Nor Goodness Of My Own But Remember Me According To Thy Loving Kindness And According To Thy Tender Mercy Blood Out All Of My Transgression Oh Friend We Have Such A Deceived Heart You Know I Believe I

[39:23] Have Forgotten Some Sins Especially In The Early Work But Friend My Sins All Have To Be Pardoned The Mercy Is This God Did Not Forget And He Showed Me Some Of My Sins Of My Youth And Of My Past I Forgotten Oh Friend How Sad To Be Without A God And Without The Work Of God The Holy Spirit That Does Not Show You Your Sin Then Your Sin Will Remain Upon Your Person And You'll Have To Go To The Pit Of Hell With Your Sin But We Find Here He Says Take Away All Iniquity The Word Taking Of It Means Lifting It Up Now Certainly It Don't Mean Taking Away All Of Iniquity And I Won't Feel Myself As A Sinner But A Condented Sinner Wants To Know Something

[40:23] Of Peace In The Conscience Maybe You've Been Brought To This Place To Know I Know That In Glory All The Sins Of God's People Are Atoned For And In The Court Of Justice There The Whole Of Election Of Grace Is Without Thought But I Can't See My Name There But I See My Sins And Even If You Know What It Is To Have A Glimmering Of Hope And And If The Lord Has Given You A Little Hope In His Mercy You Wanted Cleared In Your Own Conscience Don't You Oh He Has Forgiven Me Of All Of My Sin Friend Could You Think Of Any More Glorious Truth Than The Pardon Of Your Sin The Forgiveness Of It Take With Your Words Take Away All My Iniquity

[41:23] Cleanse Me And wash Me in That Trecious Fountain Which Is Made Open For Sin And Uncleanness Take With Your Words And Tell The Lord To Show You That Fountain I See In The Word Of God In That Day A Fountain Shall Be Opened Opened Are We Not So Often In Our Early Days Like Hagar There Was A Spring Nearby And She Would Have Perished If God Not Had Opened Her Eyes But The Lord Opened Her Eyes I Leave Hagar As If To Her Standing Of Grace I'm Not Talking About That But The Lord Opened Her Eyes And She Seen A Fountain It Wasn't One Which Was Quickly Made It Was There And Her Eyes Was Opened And She Seen
