The church was formed in 1708 with 13 members. They met in several places including a room which was registered for worship over a shop, and they also met in the Swan Inn in 1754. The present Chapel was built in 1871. Alexander Cruden who compiled the Bible Concordance which bears his name worshiped here in the 1750’s
