The cause was started in 1849/1850 by some members of Thornhill
Edge Chapel who lived in Ossett. They met in a room of Mr D Ellis's
home for 22 years. In 1872, Mr Ellis built the Chapel at his
own expense which was opened in the October of that year. In the
early 1950's, the church became so reduced in numbers that on more
than one occasion, Mr Grace came to preach to an empty Chapel. Mr
Ellis's widow gave the Chapel cottages and a shop to be used as a
vestry, minister's study and a bookshop for Christian literature.
Mr Norman Roe was pastor from 1972 to 2021.
