[0:00] Now as the Lord may help us speak and hear, we will turn to the chapter we read, which of course is the 12th of Paul's Ephesians of the Hebrews.

[0:12] I'll read verse 2, which I have no doubt has been preached from many times from this pulpit. Nevertheless, we believe this is the word the Lord has given.

[0:23] Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

[0:42] Verse 2, chapter 12, Paul's epistle to the Hebrews. Now one would briefly mention the context of this verse because then we get the right understanding of these words.

[0:57] In the previous chapter, Paul was led to write to these people who it appears were a troubled people. And he always sought in his epistles to encourage them in their faith and in their walk that they might endure to the end.

[1:13] And he tells us that all those ancients who, through that faith the Lord gave them, endured things which you and I have not as yet been called upon to pass through.

[1:27] I often do wonder, friends, or whether we would do, don't you? Our old minister of Bedford, and I've been back to Bedford while we've sung that hymn just now.

[1:41] Because we used to sing it, I suppose it's over 60 years since I remember it first sung. There used to be about 500 people there at that time.

[1:53] So you can tell how lovely it was sung, as it was this afternoon. And it is a solemn searching hymn which we do well to ponder upon the words which we have sung.

[2:07] Of course they are applicable to us all. Well, he says how wonderfully these people were helped. None of them defected.

[2:18] All that were helped through by that faith the Lord showed upon them. But I was going to say, our old minister once asked the people in those days, he said, you probably think that if those times come, you would never get through.

[2:37] But he added that you would get through. And it was because, and it is because, the Lord is pleased to give faith and strength according to our needs.

[2:51] It is so wonderfully true, as was written in the days of Genesis, That's thy strength, as thy day, so shall thy strength ever be.

[3:02] He never does, never did, fail any of his beloved people. And then he comes back in this first verse of this 12th chapter, To speak that in the days of Paul, there were still those that suffered for their pain.

[3:20] Wherefore, seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, Let us lay aside every weight. And dare I say this, and I'll say it of myself and of others, Do we lay aside every weight?

[3:38] That is every hindrance from our coming or looking to the Lord Jesus. Of course, Paul had in mind those runners in those days, Those races which the Romans and Greeks were so fond of.

[3:54] And it meant that they were rid of all the flows that would hinder them in their running, As it is today. And the sin which doth so easily beset us, Well, I personally don't think that's just one sin.

[4:10] Some would say, probably is a very prominent sin, The sin of unbelief, But there's a sin which besets me, And there's a sin which besets you. We all are, We are all possessed of Weak links in our armour.

[4:26] It's like Mr. Brooker used to say at Thumbbridge Wells, The devil knows where to bait his hook in his quaint manner, Meaning that you and I have weak parts, Which if temptation come, We might well fall.

[4:43] But here we are told, That we are, And the sin, We are to watch the sin which doth so easily beset us, And run with, Let us run with patience, The race that is set before us.

[4:59] And that we might add too, That in our own day, There is still some, Who suffer persecution, Open persecution, For their faith.

[5:10] There are, as I said, You probably know, Many underground churches in Russia, Who, if they are caught, They take the children away, And they never see them again.

[5:22] And if they persist in their worship, They are sent to Siberia. But I read that their faith is very strong, And they are still, Holding fast to the faith the Lord has given to them.

[5:38] And of course, There are places where the Roman Catholics, Having dominion, Where they persecute, The true followers of the Lord Jesus.

[5:48] And then of course, We all know, If we have life in our soul, What it is to be persecuted, By Satan ourself. But here, The remedy, Is in one dear friend, Who suffered, More than all those worthies of old, Yes, More than Paul did, For the hymn writer, Truly says, What he endured, No tongue can tell, To save our guilty souls, From hell.

[6:19] I was saying at home, I think it was, A fortnight or so ago, That when the dear Savior, Was in Gethsemane, And as the prophet Isaiah tells us, The iniquity of us all, Was laid upon him, Though I and you, Were born nearly two thousand years, After the Savior, Took the burden of sin, If in some measure, Your sins, Were not laid upon his holy shoulders, In Gethsemane, Dear friend, You're not one of his.

[6:51] Oh, That's what we truly believe. It's not a gathering together, As people would say today, We must try ever so much harder, And we shall get more, Into the kingdom.

[7:03] It is ours to preach, And others to evangelize, But far be it from me, To be a faithfulist, But I do believe, That the Lord Jesus Christ, As he said, Has covenanted himself, To gather into that kingdom, Every sheep and lamb, Must be so, Otherwise, All our, Artings of faith crumble, It is, The Lord's a sovereign God, And he himself, When he, He suffered, And bore that burden, It wasn't, It must have said, Well now, I've, Carried the burden, And if anyone, Likes to, Believe me, Then, Their burdens, Here as well, He knew, Friend, Before time began, In fact, He rejoiced, Long before time began, With the sons of men, His own people, There was I, By him the father, As one brought up with him, And I was daily, His delight, Rejoicing always, In the Hebrew part of his earth,

[8:06] And my delights, Were with the sons of men, Yes, If he loved his people, From everlasting, To everlasting, Then he knew, Who he loved, You know, Who you love, Surely, And will we not say that, Of him, Who knew, His people, Every one, Long before they were born, You read the first chapter, Of Jeremiah, You'll see there, The Lord said to Jeremiah, I knew thee, Before that thou wert born, In thy mother's bowers, And ordained thee to thee, A prophet among the nations, Well, You see, He has been, In these words, Looking unto Jesus, And, I would keep our remarks, To this, These three words, Of course, There's many, Many things, That could be said, Rightly so, Upon these words, But, To this, Act, And this is the meaning, Of the text,

[9:06] That when, These tribulation trials, Come to us, We must not, Commiserate, Over much, With ourselves, We must seek, To come to the throne, Of grace, But, The remedy is, The good thing, That is said, Is that we might be found, Looking unto Jesus, And here, In this, Verse, Too, We see, That the Lord, Jesus Christ, As, Paul, So often does, He is set before us, As an, Our example, Looking, Unto Jesus, And it says of him, In, A verse, Later on, That, He endured, Such contradiction, Of sinners, Against himself, Well, What a great, Mercy it is, If we do, Look unto him, The Lord, Did bring us, Didn't he, Once, We hope, To look unto him,

[10:07] For salvation, For mercy, And compassion, For the forgiveness, Of our sins, And I hope, He has kept us, More or less, Through the years, Until this present time, To be found, Looking unto Jesus, And Paul, Never preached himself, He was so, Delighted, Always, To bring the people, To focus, Their thoughts, Their mind, Their attention, Their prayers, Upon the Lord, Jesus Christ, He didn't say, Well, I know these people, Have suffered, So much, At the hand of their enemies, He could have said, The same, Certainly does, Mention it briefly, In one of his epistles, But, He directed them, That, Through the Holy Spirit's, Power, They might be found, Looking upwards, Unto the Lord, Jesus Christ, His people, Have been doing that, Ever since, The beginning of time,

[11:08] Since, He first, Made known, His love, To his people, And here, We read it then, Looking unto Jesus, Because, As he goes on, The author, The margin, The margin of rendering, Is, Or beginner, The author, And finisher, Of our faith, If we look at the word, Author, We immediately, Perhaps, Think of, Of it, If we were asked, What an author is, Or we should say, Well, One thing is, The author of a book, We all, If we read a book, And I don't read many, Second books, If any myself, But, We like to know, Even in these religious books, Who, The one, Was that wrote it, And therefore, He is the author of it, It demonstrates, His own mind, His thoughts, Which brought him, To write this book, If even if it's, A religious book, Or a secular one, And this immediately,

[12:10] Of course, Brings us to consider, Who was the author, Of this book, We are told by Paul, That, Holy men of old, Spake as they were moved, By the holy spirit, And then, The word author, Has a meaning, To, Of authority, Because, To put you, As a simple illustration, Suppose, You came upon, Your work, And you saw, Some new thing, Some new part, Of the building, And you might say, Well, Who authorized that, To be built?

[12:44] It would be, By someone, That had the skill, And the power, And the ability, To perform, What was in their mind, You might enlarge, Upon this point, But let us set it at this, That, The author, Here means, That, The author, And finisher, Of our faith, It means, Dear friends, That if you have faith, If I have faith, It's not that faith, Which you can say, I am determined, To have it, You can't cultivate it, It's no use, People say, You really must, Exercise a little faith, I'm afraid, I'm coming often, With the lines, Of a hymn writer, Who said, My faith is feeble, I confess, We faintly, Trust thy word, But wilt thou pity, Us the less, Be it far from thee, Lord, So, If you are, One of the Lord's dear people, The Lord will be author, Of that faith,

[13:45] That you have, The beginner, Of the work of race, In the soul, Paul tells us, In Philippines, I believe it is, He, That hath begun, A good work in you, Will perform it, Until the day, Of Jesus Christ, So, We must boast, Of our faith, Many, Or rather, Some years ago, I was, In a certain, Home, That were entertaining us, Between the services, And, A gracious woman, Was there, And she knew, A little of the things, That I passed through, At that time, And she said, Here comes, That man of great faith, I'm not telling you, Friends, This, To boast, Of my faith, But, I do know this, That that faith, The Lord gives, Is exceedingly tried, And because, He is the author of it, And gave us that faith, That faith, Hangs, Much,

[14:46] Upon, What the Lord has said, I have, Things, That, In my heart, Promises, The Lord has given, Which, I believe, Faith, In exercise, Believes, Though at times, One has, Has felt, Well, Would these things, Will these things, Be performed, But they will be, But there is, As Paul says, And Peter too, The trial of your faith, Being much more precious, Than the gold which perisheth, Though it be tried, With fire, It is a faith, That is tried, I wouldn't give anything, To faith that isn't, Friends, I used to think, Well, A trial of faith, That seems rather hard, That almost frightens me, One dear old lady, Said I didn't look at that chapter, Though faith was sorely tried, But I've learned a little, I must confess that, Because it's like, An object, We take, We say anything, That's manufactured,

[15:48] A motor car, Was used as an illustration, And it was made, And advertised, And sold, And then, They found, Those that bought it, But it was a, Very, Very faulty, It was alright, For time, But it wouldn't stand, The test of endurance, The long run, Well, They don't sell cars, Like that, Do they, In Bedfordshire, The Vauxhall, People have a, Vast, Testing ground, Where, The cars are, Made to travel, And under all sorts, Conditions, And speeds, Not to, To see how fast, They'll go, But to test them, To see if they're, Road worthy, And you can't say, That you have a right religion, Really, Or me, Unless, There's been tested, And by testing, The Lord has, Brought you, Into some, Difficulty, And, How have you stood, In it, Has your faith, Poulter, Has it done away, With your religion, Or has it,

[16:49] Strengthened you, And made you feel, Well the Lord has, Brought me through it, Those anxious prayers, Which ascended up, Unto the throne of grace, In the time of your trouble, At the time, Of deliverance, May well have been delayed, To try your faith, Even more, But in the end, The Lord has been faithful, At promise, Hasn't he, And you've been brought, Through that fire, And then, It is by these things, Says Hedekiah, Hedekiah, By these things, That men live, It's a good thing, A real, Needful thing, That our experience, And our faith, Might be tested, The Lord gives it, He's the beginning of it, And it was so, Surely, What a wonderful, Example we're seeing, In the case of Abraham, When you think, That the Lord, Gave him that son, In his old age, When naturally speaking, Such a thing,

[17:50] Was utterly impossible, His wife told, That she loved, And couldn't see, Such a thing to be, But Abraham didn't, And he was to be, The father of many nations, He was in that, Long line, If you look at it, In Matthew and Luke, Of Christ, Right down, To Adam, That is Christ, In his flesh, Coming into the earth, You'll see, These names there, In their line, The line of descent, But the Lord said, To him, That he was to, Sacrifice his son, And, When, Well, What, What did the poor man feel like, What sacrificed the one, When the Lord had given me, Mine old age, That he might be, A father of many nations, It seems impossible, Ah, But you see, The test in time, Have proved to be, That Abraham had, Real faith, Paul tells us how, He knew that,

[18:51] Even if he was slain, The Lord raised him up again, But you see, The Lord, In the, Last moment, As it were, Saved that dear lad, And there was found, That ram in the, In the thicket, When it is said, He, He, Made him an offering, A sacrifice, Instead of, His son Isaac, And that's what, The gospel is you know, Is, In said of, Lord Jesus Christ, Instead of us, Paul says, He that spared not, His own son, But delivered him up, For us all, Shall he not with him, Freely give us, All things, Well, These times, Of these great trials, Which these people endured, It needed, At great faith, Oh, How many times, Perhaps you have said, Really, I wonder, Whether I ought, To give up, The fight seems,

[19:53] So unequal, I don't feel, I shall manage, After all, But you know, You do, In the end, The Lord enables you, To look up, Unto him, Who bore, Such contradiction, Of sinners, Against himself, Lest you be weary, And faith, In your minds, And therefore, He's a finisher, One, Some say, And it's quite rightly, The perfecter of our faith, But what he begins, That faith, Though sorely fried, And sometimes very weak, He would see to it, That it stands, The fiery test, And the hymn says, Our captain stood, The fiery test, And we shall stand, Through him, But there is, Of course, In this faith, Faith, Even in natural things, Must have an object, In view, A blind faith, That would be,

[20:54] Of no use, Whatever, For in faith, As Paul tells us, There is this, Substance, Something upon which, Faith, Sets its vision, And of course, It tells us, In this, Earlier chapter, Now faith, Is the substance, Of things hoped for, The evidence, Of things not seen, What a man seeth, What doth he yet hope for, And therefore, This faith, In this time of trouble, For these dear people, Was first, To look to the Lord Jesus, Who, Who, Gained the victory, Over all, Opposition, Over death itself, And that faith, Gives them, To believe, That they too, Would triumph in him, That they shall, Never be destroyed, Now it is a wonderful thing, When we consider, The object, Of the Lord Jesus Christ, In this work,

[21:55] Which he came to do, It is indeed, Of course, You see, There was an object, In view, And it was, That he might, Save his people, From their sins, These people, Of whom I've already said, Are the objects, Of his everlasting love, But in a sense, He didn't take, The full possession, Of them, Until, And won't do, Until, They're all gathered together, In the kingdom, He says, So beautifully, In, In John 17, Thine they were, That is, All these people, And thou gavest them me, Yes, Gavest them to the Saviour, To redeem, And the Lord Jesus, As I've said, The word says, His delights, Are with the sons of men, That I, Of the Lord Jesus Christ, Ascent upon, Upon, All his elected family, All these dear,

[22:55] Sheep and lambs, All these, Who have been washed, In his precious blood, His love is an intense one, And the love of Christ, Whole, It is a holy centred, Upon the church, Which he has purchased, By his precious blood, And the Lord has designed, That there shall be a reward, For his beloved son, And what a reward, My dear friends, There has been, For many, That have suffered, In the past, When I look at, These old castles, Several of them, In, In Sussex, And there is, One, Young friend, That, Paul, That not long since, And said, We went, To look at the dungeons, I say, Well I've never been, I haven't the heart, To go friends, Because, Those places were, Places of terror, Of grievous suffering, When you think,

[23:56] Of many that feared God, In past days, Or what they suffered, In those terrible places, But you see friends, It was with them, As our text says, Who, For the joy, That was set before them, Their faith, Believed, That there would be, A reward, For their sufferings, And I think, Of them now, In heaven, That is their souls, And it's all, That has been made, Up to them, The Lord has made, Amends for them, For all the sufferings, That they endured, Upon earth, It must, We know, While they, Suffered it, Very grievous indeed, And what a blessing, Now we ought, To thank our God, That we, As I said in prayer, Are able to meet together, None daring, To make us afraid, Compared, With those of old, That suffered, For their faith, And who could, By the signing, Of their name, On a piece of paper,

[24:57] Could have gained, Their freedom, But now, Their joy, Was set before them, And so it was, With their beloved, Saviour, Who, For the joy, That was set before him, And what he passed through, As we have said, None of us, Can ever begin to pardon, But he looked, Beyond, Beyond the, The trouble friends, He looked, Beyond the suffering, And beyond that suffering, He viewed the crown, Who for the joy, That was set before him, Endured the cross, Yes, And this doesn't mean, Just that time you know, When he hung upon that cross, It is a common, Word among, All those that love, And fear God, If they speak of any, Great tribulation, That they are passing through, They look upon it, As a cross, Don't they, With their particular cross,

[25:58] To bear, They say, I know, I know all these crosses, That we bear, Find their center, In Calvary, But our dear, Saviour, My dear friends, Well, He suffered the cross, All through those years, Of his ministry, It wasn't just, When, Gethsemane, And Calvary, Appeared, He was, In his ministry, Contradicted, By sinners, And he was, He who is, The prince of preachers, The son of God, He was despised, And rejected of men, Once upon my bed, Some 10 or 15 years ago, Perhaps, I felt that some, Certain thing, Happened, Regarding my ministry, And I thought, On my bed, Well, I'm really, Useless, All together, No good at all, I mean it friends, And then as I lay there, Those words came,

[27:02] He was despised, And rejected of men, Oh, I thought, What good company, I am in, Oh, What good company, Are the despised followers, Of the Lord Jesus Christ in, They do, But follow him, It's not just, Following him, In the easy pathway friends, It is the following him, When the Lord, Gives his people a cross, It may be with some, Ill health, A nagging complaint, It may be sorrow of heart, Because, They have not clear evidence, Of their salvation, It may be, That they have children, Who have not followed, In the path, That they have tried, Last week, Been away, A deacon, At a certain chapel, His wife said, You know, Our children don't come, They have good positions, In life, And this is so, With a good many, But, That is as far as it goes, Must be a grief,

[28:04] To godly parents, To have children, Who have turned their back, Upon the past, Which, Their parents, Tread, Pray, But, But I said this, To this dear woman, I, I'm sure of this, You have not ceased, To pray for them, No, If any of you, Have children, That have turned, From the path, Of truth, There is always, My dear friends, A throne of grace, Bring them, To the Lord, Leave them there, Help him to you, Not to take, The cross away, You see, The cross is not, Always taken away, It is to be, Endure, The Lord Jesus, When his disciples, When he spoke to them, Concerning, His suffering, Peter said, Not so, Saviour, But the Lord said, Get thee behind me, Saviour, And it is recorded, Of the Saviour, He set his face, As a flint, To go to Jerusalem,

[29:05] There to accomplish, His deceit, He was set for it, No deviation, No turning away, From it, Because he saw, Beyond that cross, And there, He saw, The crown of his glory, The gathering in, Of the kingdom, Of all those, Beloved children, For whom he travelled, I sometimes think, Regarding us, Four ministers, And perhaps, Members and deacons too, We don't, Do weep, Tell me if I'm wrong, We don't travel, Enough for children, As soon as, Zion, Travel, We read, Zion, Brought forth, Children, We don't, Weep those tears, We don't, Wrestle with the Lord, That there might be, An adding, To those, From the Lord, Has purposed to save, At least, I feel that to be so, And I'm sometimes, Ashamed of myself, That I can't produce, This myself,

[30:06] But, What a blessing, To travel out the children, For this child, Says one of old, I prayed, Yes, And obtained the blessing, And endured, At the cross, Yes, Endured it, For his dear people, Oh, What suffering, Of mind, Body and soul, Did that precious, Saviour, Endure, For these, Beloved children, Whom he will one day, For the end of the age, When every one, Of these children, Are gathered into heaven, The Lord Jesus, Is going to, Head the procession, Of them, Along the portals, Of heaven, Into the very presence, Of the Father, The word of God, Tells us, Just what he's going to say, Behold, I, And the children, Which thou hast, Given me, The Lord Jesus, Loves his children, So dearly, Proving his love,

[31:07] By, Taking that cross, Upon himself, Enduring the cross, And, Enduring, I think, So sad, As I've already said, Endures such contradiction, Of sinners, Against himself, And it goes on, In our text, Endure the cross, Despising the shame, The actual cross, In Romans time, Was the, The greatest, And most, Shameful, Punishment, That they ever did, It was, For, For, For, For the lowest, And the, Violest of the criminals, To hang upon that cross, To be despised, By all, Near our beloved, Saviour, Was put among, As we read, Made his grave, For the wicked, And the rich, In his death, He was there, A spectacle, For man, All those people, That derided him, In that time of shame,

[32:10] Who said, He saved others, Himself he could not save, They didn't realise, What the truth that was, For if he had come down, As he could have done, There would have been, No salvation, Would there, For you, Or for me, But he despised the shame, We, I'm afraid, We'd rather, Hide it, Wouldn't we, We're rather reluctant, To speak to, Those we know, On the matter of religion, We don't want them, To say to you, You go to that old chapel, Do you, Don't you, Don't want them to say it, We're afraid of them friends, We ought not to be, One Sunday at home, I was speaking, On this, Doctrine of, Not being ashamed, Of the gospel, And on the next, Wednesday I was, Went to see an old deacon, Our chaplain, In my bed, Only ten days ago, And to my surprise,

[33:11] My wife was with me, She said, Now David, I want you to, Help me, Audibly to sing, The doxology, In this ward, This afternoon, To give thanks, For the Lord, Restoring my, My health, Happy God, And what did I do, How did I, Not be afraid, I called upon the people, The doctors, Examining patients, And nurses, And the ward was, Found with people, And I called out, For silence, Every eye turned, Towards me, And wondered, Whatever I was doing, Well, I plainly declared, I said, My friend here, Is asked to give thanks to God, And ask you to join with us, In singing the doxology, Because the Lord, Has graciously, Improved his health, Well, My dear wife, And myself, And this old gentleman,

[34:11] We did sing it, All that looked upon us, Some with bewilderment, And others, Hardly knew, What to say, Or to do, But I'm ever so pleased, That I was able, To be unashamed, Of my Lord, At that time, Only eternity, Will prove, Whether, It was the right thing, Or not, But I did, Friends, And I always pray, In the hospital, Loudly, And I proved, It to be, Most beneficial, Oftentimes, To others, That here, That have no profession, I could, And would not, Detain you, With evidences, On this point, But what a, Solemn thing, To be ashamed, Of him, He that bore, All this shame, This contradiction, Of sin, Against himself, And who endured, As seeing him, Who is invisible, Yes, Then, The hymn says, Will he own,

[35:12] My worthless name, Before the father's face, And in the new Jerusalem, Appoint, My soul, A place, I want him, To do that, For me, Friends, I do indeed, And I don't want, To be ashamed, Of him, Who despised, The shame, And what else, Does it say, To come now, To the reward, The preparation, For the reward, Of our beloved, Saviour, It says, And is set down, At the right hand, Of the throne, Of God, I love to think, Of this wonderful work, Of advocacy, Of the Lord Jesus, The sitting down, It has one, Of two points, We ought to mention, It is the sitting down, First, Of rest, After the labours, You, That do a good day's work, When you come home, You, Do love to sit down,

[36:12] Don't you, In the chair, And to rest, From your labours, You should do so, It's a natural thing, To do, And it also, Indicates, That this work, The favour, Is finished, It is a sitting down, To, Of triumph, It is a sitting down, Of thankfulness, Like David, After the Lord, Establish him, Upon the throne, Of Israel, We read, How he went, Into the house, Of the Lord, And sat down, There he meditated, Upon all the Lord's, Goodness to him, All, All that he had done, Raising him up, To be the king, Of all the land, And so on, But here, The Lord Jesus, Has a seat, At the right hand, Of the father, His labours, Go on, As it were, In a most wonderful manner, For he is there, As an, Advocate, For a, A daysman, We might call him,

[37:13] And, As one, That stands between, God, And the poor sinner, He is one, That pleads, The cause, Of his dear people, And, My dear friends, He has, Never yet, Lost a case, For all, That come to God, By him, Salvation, He demands, Points to their names, Upon his breast, And shows, His bleeding hands, It's a very sweet, Meditation, If the Lord, Would be pleased, To give it to you, To consider, The great high priest, Of our profession, To see this, Dear man, And I like, The words, Of the hymn writer, Resplendent, In his wounds, Yes, There he is, To, Plead the cause, To his dear people, He might go on, Like this, There's you, Mention your name, There's this one, Father, And thou knowest,

[38:15] I have, Saved him, His sins, Have been washed away, In my precious blood, I plead, The evidence, Of his salvation, In that, Which I have done, For him, It's a wonderful thing, Isn't it, Do we have a friend, In heaven, You see, When we call upon, God the Father, In prayer, And supplication, We cannot come, Directly unto him, Can we?

[38:43] No, It's presumption, So to do, But Paul says, That our God, Is a consuming fire, We end our petitions, With those words, We say, For Jesus' sake, Amen, That all, The Father does, For his people, It is because, Of his beloved son, For his beloved son, And there he is, Advocating, The cause, Of all those dear people, Who are redeemed, By the shedding, Of his precious blood, The glorious, High priest, So, Some folk, May say, Well I have, But few friends, Some say, Well none at all, I was speaking, To a man, The other day, I haven't got a relation, At all, Where he lived, He had no friends, But he's a wicked sinner, Like, As he is now, But my dear friend, You that fear the Lord, Remember that there is one friend, You have, In the high court of heaven,

[39:45] In that dwelling place, The dear Job says, When he was, Talking to his friends, His friend, His pleader was in heaven, He understood, Knew all about his faith, And faith then, Is found, Looking unto Jesus, The author, And finisher, Of our faith, To look up to this one, Who accomplished the work, To the salvation, Of all his dear people, And realized, The joy of it, Suffered, Endured the cross, That he might gain the crown, So when you and I, Are brought into, No places, We may well be, At different times, When trials come, When we question, For this thing, And the other, Let us remember, To look unto him, That nothing happens, By chance, That all things, Are overruled by him, That as Paul says,

[40:47] But we know, That all things, Work together for good, To them that love God, To them, Mark this, To other called, According to his purpose, Well I do hope, These simple remarks, May find a place, In your hearts, And that we each, May often times, Not occasionally, Be found, Looking away from self, And be found, Looking unto Jesus, May that sweet faith, Of his own provision, Enable you, To look up unto him, In the Old Testament, Read, Look unto me, All the ends of the earth, For I am God, And there is, None else, May he be pleased, To add his blessing, Name's sake, Amen.
