[0:00] As the Lord may be pleased to help me, this evening I would direct your minds to the Gospel of John, chapter 19, and reading in the way of a text, the last clause in verse 26.

[0:30] Woman, behold thy Son. The Gospel of John, chapter 19, we will read the verse 26.

[0:47] When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother.

[1:07] Woman, behold thy Son. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. We are drawing near the sacred ground.

[1:19] The sacred ground. The sacred ground. To the place where Jesus, the beloved Son of Almighty God.

[1:40] God. That dear man who was sent by the Father as a servant, sent unto this lower world to be the redeemer of all whom the Father had chosen and loved.

[2:10] A mystery. A mystery. A great mystery. How little do we understand the greatness of this God and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

[2:32] Three in one. Three in one. One in three. Full of wisdom. Full of grace. Full of mercy. Full of love.

[2:43] Full of love. Full of love. Jesus. Born into this world by a woman.

[2:58] We have the two in our text. Woman. Mary. The mother of Jesus.

[3:16] She was his real mother. She gave birth to that babe at Bethlehem.

[3:29] Great is the mystery of it. The love of the Lord Jesus Christ.

[3:59] The love of the Lord Jesus Christ as he was hanging upon that cross at Calvary.

[4:12] Oh may the Lord help us to enter into it a little. There seems and we know there is a great depth in this.

[4:24] And at times I fear to approach Calvary in the garden of Gethsemane. Yet I believe it is to be breached. It is not to be forgotten.

[4:38] In respect of his supper. In respect of his supper. Do this in remembrance of me. So we desire this evening by the help of the Holy Spirit to enter a little.

[4:55] Into the feelings. The love. Of this dear man. Jesus Christ. And first I would notice. Though he was in pain.

[5:10] In grief. In his own body. And in heart. And in soul. Yet.

[5:22] His love flowed toward his mother. His mother. As I said. He was in much pain.

[5:34] And yet that love. Seemed as it were overflow. All his pain. And his grief.

[5:45] His love went to his mother. He knew that she was a poor woman. He got nothing to leave.

[5:58] Nothing as it were to provide for his mother. The foxes have holes. The birds of the hare have nests.

[6:09] But the son of man. Hath not where to lay his head. Oh the love dear friends. That must have flowed.

[6:21] As it were. From his heart. On to his mother. When in that great pain. And grief. Of soul.

[6:32] I would just notice this. In passing. He knew what. The pain and grief.

[6:45] The pain and grief. Was in her heart. In Mary's heart. In Mary's heart. He did not say. On this occasion. As she stood.

[6:57] Before the cross. Mother. He said. Woman. I believe. We know a little. If he had said. Mother. It would have been. Very keen.

[7:08] It would have been. It would have been. Very keen. It would have entered. Into her. Sorrowful heart. As she saw. Her dear son. Suffering there.

[7:19] So. Out of his wisdom. And his love. To water. He said. Woman. Behold. Thy son. So. Out of his wisdom. And his love.

[7:30] Toward her. He said. Woman. Behold. Thy son. And so. Deep. Was the love.

[7:41] To her. In his heart. That he looked. To. The. A disciple. Whom. He loved. And.

[7:53] We can say. That. That disciple. Was. John. John. As if. He might have said.

[8:04] To. John. Well. I'm. About. To depart. He'd. Already. Told. John. That.

[8:15] And. The other. Disciples. He'd. Already. Told. Them. That. He. Was. To.

[8:26] To. To. To. To. To. To. To. To. God. Believe.

[8:36] Also. In. Me. And. So. But. He. Look. To. John. And.

[8:47] We. Understand. That. John. The. Disciple. Took. That. Dear. Woman. The.

[8:58] Mother. Of. The. Who. And. And. Provided. For. I. Made. These.

[9:09] Remarks. To. To his own mother. And I think we can read our text this evening.

[9:20] Woman. Why, what does it speak? The church of God. The church of God. Or in other words, woman.

[9:38] Behold thy son. Can I say, will you be offended? If I should say, sinner. Behold thy savior.

[9:52] Thy redeemer. But just for a few moments before we pass on. So Mary and Mary's sister and Mary Magdalene.

[10:08] As well as others stood beholding this wonderful scene. Blessed scene.

[10:19] And yet, oh how sorrow. I believe if we could view it rightly. There would be a mingled feeling.

[10:33] Of sorrow and of joy. Sorrow to see one there suffering. Who had never committed a sin.

[10:44] And yet joy. If we could see. Our sins.

[10:55] Upon that dear man. Jesus. A mingled feeling. Of sorrow. And of joy.

[11:05] And no doubt there was many. Experiencing. Those two. Grief. Sorrow.

[11:16] And yet. There was a little gladness. And joy. Woman. Behold. Thy son.

[11:27] And we understand. That this crucifixion. Took. Was taken. Or rather. Jesus was crucified.

[11:38] On the road. To. To. Jerusalem. So many.

[11:49] Saw him. And though there was many. That passed that way. But did not behold him.

[12:04] As God. The son of God. There was those who. Had blasphemed his holy name. There was those who said.

[12:17] Away with him. Crucify him. But there were a few. As we have led. Who believed in him. Who loved him.

[12:29] And who desired to witness. That solemn scene. Woman. Behold. Thy son.

[12:41] For a few moments. Calvary. The place of skull. No doubt.

[12:52] Many. Had been. Put to death. Perhaps on that very spot. Previously. Some.

[13:03] Possibly. Later date. Whether many or few. Every one. That went. To that cross.

[13:13] To be. Put to death. Were sinners. Sinners. But this dear man.

[13:26] Jesus. He went to that. Place. Sinless. No sin.

[13:36] No sin. Not even a sinful thought. Not a sinful thought. To those soldiers.

[13:47] Who led him. No sinful thought. To those who condemned him. He was sinless.

[14:01] The only man. Ever. Born into this world. Sinless. The only man. Went to Calvary.

[14:13] Without a sin. Of his own. And yet we can say. That this dear man. The son of God. Carried.

[14:24] Endured. Endured. Bore. More sins. Than either the others. Upon his shoulders.

[14:38] In his heart. Upon his spirit. He carried. The sins. And bore the sins.

[14:49] Of every. Individual. Child. Whom. The father. Had placed. In his hands. To the day. As love.

[15:02] Dear friends. As we heard a little of. This afternoon. As love. We should never get. To the height. The breadth. The length.

[15:14] Of the love. Of the Lord. Jesus Christ. Who came. Who came. In love. Lived in love.

[15:25] Suffered in love. Priest his gospel. In love. Looked upon poor. Sinners in love. Walked his pilgrimage. In love.

[15:37] Went to the garden. In love. Drunk of the cup. Of wrath. Due to you and I. In love.

[15:48] Right to the very. Dregs of it. Yes. This dear man. Spoke in love. He prayed in love. He walked in love.

[16:02] He entered. Calvary. In love. He suffered in love. He gave his life in love.

[16:12] He rose again in love. He is now in heaven. In love. Loved. Loving his people.

[16:24] Every son. Every daughter. Every child. That belonged to the Father. Jesus. And the Holy Spirit.

[16:35] He suffered. I have already said. This evening. Oh the depth of it. We shall never get. To the depth. No.

[16:47] Woman. Behold. Thy son. Oh what sacred ground. He was standing upon.

[16:58] What sacred ground. He suffered upon. And in his own soul. Woman.

[17:10] Behold. Thy son. Have we dear friends. Ever had. A little. View. Of Jesus.

[17:22] Not by the natural eye. Of course. These things. Took place. Long before. We entered. This world.

[17:34] But. I believe. The Lord's people. Are given faith. A little faith. And we. Are. Exalted.

[17:45] As it were. To pray. For. This faith. Let us. Run. In the race.

[17:56] That is set. Before us. Looking unto Jesus. Who is the author. And finisher. Of our faith. Some people.

[18:07] Say. Well. I have never had. A faith. View. Of Jesus. But is there. A desire. A deep desire. A prayerful desire.

[18:18] In our hearts. Lord. Give us faith. Faith. To believe. Faith. To be old. Is to be seen.

[18:30] Dear friends. By faith. Calvary. Oh. It still stands out. And it will do. For eternity.

[18:41] A man. A real man. With wounds. Still gaping wide. In heaven. In heaven above. Some of you.

[18:53] Have lost. Dear and dear ones. You have every hope. That they are there. In heaven. They are viewing. That dear man.

[19:05] That we are trying. To speak of. This evening. A man. A real man. With wounds. Still gaping wide.

[19:18] He is to be seen. By faith. Oh. That we might be able. To earnestly. Plead. With the Holy Spirit. To lead us.

[19:30] To Calvary. I believe. I had one. A little view. Never lasted. Many moments.

[19:41] Seconds. But dear friends. It was a view. Of Calvary. A little view. Of Jesus. This one.

[19:53] In our text. Hanging. In. Upon. That. A tree. If you have it. I'll tell you what it will do.

[20:05] It will do this. It will crumble you to the dust. It will bring you. Down. And down. As low.

[20:16] As you could stoop. Up. And your heart. Heart. Will be broken to pieces. And the love. Of God. Felt. Within your soul.

[20:30] Woman. Behold. Thy son. Just a few words.

[20:42] Respecting. His suffering. We've often. Read. Of the sufferings. Of Christ. He was.

[20:56] Taken. By. Those soldiers. To Calvary. He would have gone there.

[21:08] Without soldiers. Because it was appointed. From all eternity. That Jesus should come.

[21:19] As we are this afternoon. To fulfill the law. And make a way. For the Lord's people. To enter. Heaven. The sufferings.

[21:32] Of the Lord Jesus. Yes. On that. Accursed tree. They literally.

[21:49] Nailed him. To the cross. How was it done? It is being spoken of.

[22:02] As the cross. Laid. Upon the ground. And Jesus. Laid. There. And those.

[22:14] Awful nails. Pierced. Through. His. Hands. One. No. Both. To those.

[22:25] Sacred feet. Of his. That walked. In the paths. Of righteousness. Moved. For the benefit. Of his.

[22:36] People. Think of it. Nailed. To that. Accursed tree. No doubt.

[22:47] Lifted. And. Put in. Do. The socket. Prepared. For the cross. I believe.

[22:58] We read. In the. Psalm. 22. That every. Bone. Every joint. Was out of place.

[23:10] Oh. Think of it. As they. Thrust. That. Cross. Into. The ground. That every. Not a bone.

[23:21] Broken. No. No. But. His. Joint. Was out of place. Oh. Can it. Take us a little.

[23:31] My. To have a little. Idea. Of the. Sufferings. Of this. Dear. Son of God. On behalf.

[23:43] Of his. Church. Not for the world. We've heard. This afternoon. That he. Played. Not for the world. But for those.

[23:54] Whom the father. Had. Given him. Oh. The suffering. To be led. To care of.

[24:05] And to see. A little. By faith. And to. Have. Shall I say. A little. View.

[24:15] Saint. And if so. The feeling of it. Within our soul. And what will that do. Well I believe.

[24:26] It will draw out. Our hearts. And our affections. Toward that one. Who so. Willingly. Passed this way.

[24:38] Endured. What he. Endured. No tongue. No tongue. Can tell. To save. Can I say. Our souls.

[24:48] From. Hell. Woman. Behold. Thy son. At Calvary. Thy son.

[24:59] And these. Dear women. Mary. Mother. Of Jesus. Was there. When he. Said. I.

[25:10] Thirst. There was a witness. To it. And I believe. We've been. Thankful. At times. That these things. Are left on record.

[25:22] That we are. Unable. To read them. And to meditate. Upon them. And sometimes. In meditating. Upon it. We've.

[25:32] Gathered a little. We've. Gleaned a little. As Ruth. Did. In the fields. Of Boaz. And we've. Gleaned a little.

[25:44] From. Calvary. Oh. How good. The Lord. Has been. Still is. In leaving.

[25:54] His word. For our. Meditation. And oh. How good. The Holy Spirit. Is. When the Spirit. Leads us. Into it.

[26:06] That we are. Enable. To. Gather. A handful. Should I say. Just a little. Here and. There and then. And what will it do.

[26:17] Why. It will strengthen. Our faith. And help us. To press on. Believing. That we shall. Endure. Unto.

[26:28] The. End. Then Jesus. When Jesus. Therefore. Saw his mother. And the disciples. Standing by.

[26:39] Whom he loved. He said. Unto his mother. Woman. Behold. Of thy. Son. Woman. Woman.

[26:59] Behold. Thy son. I mentioned. This evening. About. Faith.

[27:12] Beholding. Him. There was many. As you know. On this earth. When Jesus. Was living.

[27:26] Here. At natural life. And yet a spiritual life. And many. Behold him. Many.

[27:38] Behold him. As a robber. The. The. Many. Beheld him. As a blasphemer. It reminds me.

[27:51] Of the word. In Psalm. 37. Mark. The perfect man. And behold. The upright. For the end. Of that man.

[28:02] Is peace. Why. Those. Shall I say. Wicked. Men. And women. Those. Who are unbelievers.

[28:13] They marked him. But not in love. They marked him. In envy. In malice. They.

[28:24] Marked him. Yea. When they said. Away with him. But there was a few. Around the cross. And others. That believed on him.

[28:36] And they. Marked him. As a. Perfect man. We can say. Cannot we not. Behold.

[28:46] The son. Of God. A. Perfect man. Yes. Perfect. That cannot be said.

[28:57] Of any other. We are not. Perfect. But Jesus. Was. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. In every way. He shed.

[29:08] A perfect blood. He. Wrought out. A perfect righteousness. Perfect. In every way. Shape. And form.

[29:20] You say. Well. How can you. Bring the church. Of God. Into. That word. That I have quoted.

[29:31] Mark. The perfect man. Well. It's not in us. Dear friends. It's not. And yet. I believe. That word. Is spoken. For.

[29:42] For. For. And on. The. Of. Of. The church. You say. How can it be. Well. In simple words. And let me first. Lead you. To the point.

[29:52] When. He said. A sinner. Is a. Sacred thing. The Holy Ghost. Has made him. So. That's the secret. Of it. That's the commencement.

[30:04] Of a perfect man. When we become. The temple. Of the Holy Ghost. Nothing perfect. In us. By nature.

[30:15] But the perfection. Is in that. Which the Lord. Has implanted. Within our temple. Within our earthly bodies. That is a perfect.

[30:28] So as we. Read. Those words. We may look upon. The inner man. The man of divine grace. Which is.

[30:38] Perfect. And behold. The end of that man. Is peace. Now where was peace wrought. Right into the text.

[30:51] Behold. The sun. On Calvary. That's where. Peace was wrought. That's where peace came. In and through.

[31:02] Jesus. Christ. Nor where. If Jesus had not been born. Here. If Jesus had not. Suffered. If he had not bled.

[31:13] If he had not died. There would have been no salvation. No salvation. No peace. No pardon. No washing.

[31:26] No cleansing. Yea. No heaven. No heaven. We shouldn't have been here. This evening. But through. The wisdom.

[31:37] Of. The trinity. The wisdom. And love. Of the father. As I've already said. Send. His dear. Beloved son. As a servant.

[31:49] Yea. And he. Willingly. Came. As a servant. And he. Willingly. Came. As a redeemer. I believe. Jesus. New. Calvary.

[32:00] Even from. The manger. As a babe. He could see. Calvary. He knew. The path. He was to tread. He knew.

[32:10] The outcome of it. And no doubt. At times. There was a longing. Desire. To come. To that time. Of suffering. That he might.

[32:21] Return. Unto his father. In heaven. As much. As at times. There's a desire. In our hearts. To leave.

[32:32] The world. To go. Unto him. I believe. I have a few. Here this evening. And have uttered. The words.

[32:42] Of the poet. At times. Weary of earth. Myself. And sin. Dear Jesus. Set me free. And to thy glory. Take me in. For there I long to be.

[32:55] There was those. Pilgrimage. Pilgrims of old. Those saints. That we read of. In the 11th of Hebrews. They looked. They desired.

[33:06] A better country. Not satisfied. With things here. Nor was Christ. He came for the work. He accomplished the work.

[33:17] He was pleased. To return. Unto his father. In heaven. woman. Behold. Behold.

[33:27] Behold. Thy son. Well friends. Can I say to you this evening. Child of God. Have you.

[33:39] Have you. Beheld. This. Son of God. As your. Savior. And your. Redeemer. You say. I can't rise.

[33:50] So I. No. Maybe some. Here this evening. Much in the dark. In these matters. Much in the dark. Cannot read.

[34:01] Your election. You fear. At times. All your. Religion. Religion. Is buying. Not of. Not of God.

[34:13] Something. That has grown. Upon you. From childhood. Days. You sat. Under the truth. So many. Many. Times. And heard. The word.

[34:23] Read. The word. And you fear. It's only in the letter. You are still in the dark. Cannot take. Anything. To yourself.

[34:34] That is of the spirit. You fear. It's all of the creature. All of self. And I'll tell you this. There's one ready. To give. The answer. And that is.

[34:45] That one. Who goeth about. Ready to deceive. And he will. And he will. Tell you. That all your religion. Is buying. You've never seen.

[34:57] This son of God. You never will. He'll say. You never will. You're deceived. Have I a poor soul. Here this evening. In much darkness.

[35:09] Cannot take. Order of anything. Not even a promise. Well. If I have. What's going on.

[35:19] In your heart. You say. Well. There's a cry. There's a concern. There's a prayer. What is it? Remember me.

[35:30] With the favor. That thou bearest. Under thy people. My friends. If it comes. From thy heart. There's something. In your heart. That is of the Holy Spirit.

[35:41] There's something. There. In. Thy. Earthly. Tabernacle. That has come. From heaven. Something holy. Yes.

[35:52] You know. The devil. Is ever ready. To devour. The Lord's people. But. Let me take you. For a few moments. To Job. That poor man.

[36:04] Yet blessed. Oh. The grace. So manifested. In him. And in his life. And God. Gave permission. Can I use the word rightly.

[36:17] Gave Satan. The permission. To deal with. Job. A servant of God. Do not forget it. A child of God. God. Yes.

[36:27] One whom the God. Had loved with an everlasting love. One in the covenant. Of grace. Name. Litten in heaven. And yet God. Gave him.

[36:40] As it were. To Satan. Yea. Satan. Tormented him. But. Ere. Gere. God. Said.

[36:50] Unto. Satan. What did he say? Well. In simple words. He has a spirit within him. That's mine. That's the secret of it.

[37:02] Yes. Sometimes. The Lord's people. Have to go through. Some dark places. Dorses. Yes. Crosses to carry. Dark places.

[37:14] Deep waters. And seems as if the devil goes with us sometimes. But. The soul. The soul. And Satan. Had some discernment.

[37:26] Because he said. Thou hast put a edge about it. Oh how sweet. You say. Sweet. Yes. God has an edge of his love.

[37:39] And it's around every individual child of his. It's around his old church. Yea. Those souls own Christ redeemed. Can they be left to the hands of the devil?

[37:54] Never. Never. We may be sorely tried. He may follow us here and there. He's been the pulpit with me more than once.

[38:06] On one occasion. I shall not forget. But. When trying to speak in London. On one occasion. He followed me in the pulpit.

[38:17] He stood beside me. I tried to read. He was speaking to me. You know.

[38:28] You know this is here. You can't preach. Sometimes the devil speaks the truth. My friends. I've had to say yes. Amen to that. I can't.

[38:40] And that's how he has tormented me. And I believe he has to others. But I must tell you the other side. When the reading had finished.

[38:50] And I tried to open my lips in prayer. Then. Satan was gone. And the. And the Lord appeared. And the Holy Spirit.

[39:03] Indicted. May I give that word of encouragement. The son. Who may be present. Who was often tormented. And tried. With the power of the devil.

[39:17] He goeth about ready to devour. But as I said. The Lord has put an edge. Around his dear people. I have said.

[39:28] If there was a gap in that hedge. The devil would be the first through it. But there isn't. There isn't. Never has been. Never will be. Every child stand.

[39:41] If he stands. Yea upon the rock. And the ring of his love. Is around them. Woman.

[39:54] Behold. Thy son. Well friends. Have we beheld. This son of God. Beheld him. As our mediator.

[40:07] Have we beheld him. As our friend. Have we beheld him. As our counselor. Have we beheld him. As our redeemer. Have we beheld him.

[40:18] As our shepherd. David did. I believe I mentioned it. This morning. David said. You've longed to say it.

[40:31] The time will come. When you're unable to say it. He is my shepherd. You say. Will that time come?

[40:42] My friends. If you've got a deep concern. To see and to know. This son of God. The time of love will come. When thou shalt. Clearly see.

[40:53] Not only that he shed his blood. But thou shalt say for me. Can you see him then. As the one. Who has shed his blood.

[41:04] That you might find. Cleansing. Can you behold. This dear son of God. As your righteousness. Can you behold.

[41:15] This dear son of God. As your refuge. Can you behold him. This evening. As the foundation. Of your religion.

[41:26] Of your never dying soul. Can you say. This evening. My hope is built. On nothing less. Than Jesus blood. And righteousness.

[41:39] Woman. Behold thy son. Poor sinner. Behold him. This son of God. As your all in all.

[41:52] Behold him. As the creator. Of the heavens. The mansion. What did he say. To his disciples. And I may have one here. This evening.

[42:03] Troubled. Troubled. Deeply tried. Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. For in my father's house.

[42:14] Are many mentioned. If it were not so. I would have told you. God doesn't deceive. His people. I would have told you. But I go to prepare.

[42:25] A place for you. And if I go. And prepare. A place for you. I will come again. And receive you. Unto myself. That where I am.

[42:36] There he may be. Also. Behold him. And dear friends. The time is coming. When each of us. Will behold him.

[42:48] As the son of God. The day is coming. It may not be far away. When he will come again. In the clouds. As it were. Down.

[42:59] From the realms of bliss. Yes. Not to suffer. Not to come to Calvary. Not to shed blood. As all done. Finished. Accomplished.

[43:10] To perfection. But he have come. What? To look upon his bride. To take them. Yea. His bride. The old church of God.

[43:21] To himself. I have said. Every eye. In this little cause. This evening. Will behold him. Yes.

[43:31] But I do sincerely hope. That each of us. Will behold him. As the son of God. And behold him. As our savior.

[43:42] And our redeemer. One. Portion of scripture. That is recorded. Will be spoken. It will be this. Come.

[43:53] Ye blessed of my father. Inherit the kingdom. Prepared. For thee. Then what? Dear friends. Why. Behold him there.

[44:05] Oh. Think of it. Behold him there. In the realms of bliss. Where there's no sorrow. No grief.

[44:16] No pain. No devil. No. Uh. Old nature. All finished. Body of sin.

[44:27] Be finished. Yes. Lay it aside. What will continue. Joy. Happiness. Love. Praise.

[44:38] Oh may we. Each be. Among them. Who desire now. To behold. The son of God. And if so. We shall behold him.

[44:50] In his glory. And he will behold us. Yea. The father will behold us. In and through his dear beloved son. A perfect man.

[45:03] Amen.
