[0:00] For the Lord's help, I will drink your attention to Psalm 34, verse 19. Psalm 34, verse 19.

[0:15] Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

[0:34] Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

[0:45] Peter, in his epistle, his second epistle I think it is, speaks to the people to whom the letter is addressed and to us in turn of exceeding great and precious promises.

[1:10] The word of God is filled with exceeding great and precious promises.

[1:21] Sometimes we may speak of the promises of God. Would it not be more proper if on every occasion we spoke of the exceeding great and precious promises of God?

[1:42] Because every promise of God can never in any way be devalued and become less than an exceeding great and precious promise.

[2:00] These promises are addressed to the people of God. They are needful to the people of God.

[2:11] Because the pathway of the people of God through this world is quite different from the pathway of the ungodly.

[2:24] And when I speak of the ungodly, I refer to the ungodly profane and also the ungodly religious.

[2:36] We must always bear in mind that there are two divisions in the ungodly complement.

[2:49] But the people of God are the people that are sought out. The people of God are those that are appointed to a life of crucifixion.

[3:03] But at the same time they are appointed to a life of a special blessing. Job in his book tells us this.

[3:17] That the vulture's eye hath not seen. Nor the lion's wealth trodden in. This hidden pathway in which the people of God are led.

[3:33] We are not endeavoring to set before you something mysterious. Because if our eyes are opened it will not be mysterious.

[3:45] But if our eyes are not opened, if our heart is not opened, if there is no life in our soul, then we shall never understand. Even though we may attempt sometimes to imitate the pathway of the people of God.

[4:03] These scriptures declare the secret of the Lord is with them that fear him. And we must be very conclusive.

[4:15] And say, no one else. Now is the secret of the Lord with you and with me? Now we shall find perhaps whether this is so.

[4:31] As God may give us grace and understanding to look at the word before us. Many are the afflictions of the righteous.

[4:43] That is one point for our consideration. Do we know the afflictions of the righteous? And secondly, do we know that the Lord delivereth him out of them all?

[5:02] Now it is clear, by this particular reference to the afflictions of the righteous, that they are different from the afflictions which fall upon men in general.

[5:18] Halfordly, sometimes, it may appear that afflictions abide the righteous and also the wicked.

[5:37] But, very often, there are afflictions which abide the righteous, which certainly are not understood by the ungodly.

[5:56] How do the people of God feel when pain is upon them? Do they receive it easily, always?

[6:09] And do they find that in their natural mind there is a spirit of rebellion at times?

[6:21] Especially if that affliction should cut across a busy life. But the ungodly will also have rebellion.

[6:35] Is there any difference? There is a difference between the affliction of the righteous.

[6:47] The wicked count rebellion as nothing. They even go so far as to suggest that they establish a right.

[7:00] That they should be angry with God. But fear, the fear of God in the heart, will make this to be a very real affliction.

[7:13] That they should have rebellion. As well as maybe pain of body. From that aspect, we may look at this.

[7:29] Many are the afflictions of the righteous. They're multiple. Because they've got hard sins attaching to that which may be of a bodily nature.

[7:47] Rebellion is exceedingly solemn. To my mind, people speak of it too easily. And too lightly.

[8:01] We should view it with all the weight of the scriptures behind it. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. Hold up your hands in horror.

[8:16] Hold up your hands in horror. Against the sin of witchcraft. But do not forget to hold up your hands in horror in more intensity.

[8:27] If you are afflicted with a spirit of rebellion. Against God. Many are the afflictions of the righteous.

[8:41] But surely we may say it is an evil thing. When afflictions take possession of me.

[8:51] What does the scripture say? In the chapter that we looked at in our reading. It is good.

[9:02] It is good. That a man should both quietly wait. Hope and quietly wait. For the salvation of the Lord.

[9:14] It is good. For a man. That he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone. And keepeth silence. Because he hath borne it upon him.

[9:25] He puteth his mouth in the dust. If so be. There may be hope. Now the testimony of the scripture then. It is good.

[9:37] We turn to the 119th Psalm. And there we find. The good psalmist saying. It is good. That I have been afflicted. That I might learn my statutes.

[9:50] When we are brought into that line of things. Surely. God has delivered us. Out of the affliction of rebellion.

[10:03] And undoubtedly. It is a very solemn affliction. It is an affliction of the righteous. To the wicked it is not an affliction.

[10:16] To them. It is the right thing to do. To rebel against God. You will realize this sometimes.

[10:26] Because. Your nature is bad enough. For that carnal mind. To think it is the right thing to do. To be rebellious. And to rebel against God.

[10:40] And to ask the question. Why? To be delivered from such an affliction. To be brought into the place.

[10:51] Where without any reservation. We are able to say. It is good. That I have been afflicted. That I might learn thy statutes.

[11:04] So there is a purpose. In. Affliction being laid upon.

[11:15] The righteous. The Lord Jesus Christ. Himself. Was an afflicted man. Some years ago.

[11:29] I heard this text. Preached from. Entirely. On the sufferings of Christ. And the man preached.

[11:40] For an hour and ten minutes. And he was full. Of the wonders. Of redeeming love. In. Regard to.

[11:51] The afflictions. The afflictions. Of the righteous. Now. If we are. Amongst the righteous. Then.

[12:01] We shall find. Some. Agreement. As being followers. Of God. Who is righteous. I have thought. Much.

[12:12] Of late. Many passages. If not all. The passages. In the Psalms. Are found.

[12:24] In the heart. Of our Lord. Jesus Christ. In his manhood. Depending. Upon. God. For help. Looking.

[12:34] To God. To be his refuge. He was the son of God. Undoubtedly. We need care. And we need grace.

[12:45] To look into this great mystery. But as I feel it. There's a great depth. And. There's a wonderful. Blessing to be obtained.

[12:56] Just think of it. Beloved friends. If you should consider. This word. Many. Are the afflictions. Of the righteous. These.

[13:08] Very words. Were. Comfortable words. To our Lord. And Savior. In his pathway. Through his life. Do you not remember.

[13:19] That which is written. When the Lord. Was tempted. By the devil. And the devil. Said to him. When he was hungry.

[13:30] Command. That these stones. Be made bread. Bread. What was the answer. Man. Doth not live.

[13:41] By bread. Only. But by every word. That proceeded. Out of the mouth. Of the Lord. That man live. Man. Not God. But man.

[13:54] Words. Are applicable. To himself. In his great need. It. So therefore. When we consider. Many are the afflictions.

[14:06] Of the righteous. We are looking. At the life. Of Jesus Christ. And we are also. Looking. At the believer.

[14:18] Blessed. With. That. Safe life. That was in Jesus Christ. Now. Given into their souls. You see.

[14:30] The righteous. Are a people. That are blessed. With a nature. Which is divine. They are not a people.

[14:42] That are. Just moral. And upright. Though they will be. They are not a people. That. Are found.

[14:54] In. Worship. On the Lord's day. Because. They are people. That worship. On the Lord's day. But the righteous.

[15:05] Are. Those people. That are blessed. With. Being. A partaker. Of the divine. Nature. And that.

[15:17] Divine. Nature. In every person. Born again. Of the spirit. It. Will have afflictions. Which. Without it.

[15:28] You will not know. Anything about. But. The afflictions. Are many. Many. Are the afflictions.

[15:38] Of the righteous. Does your. Righteous soul. Have you got. A righteous soul. Does your. Righteous soul. Endure.

[15:50] Many afflictions. There is. Such a thing. As. An affection.

[16:00] Of grief. Grief. Are we ever. Grieved. Sometimes.

[16:12] The. Even the people. Of God. Themselves. May. Speak. Unadvisedly. As an example. The Lord.

[16:24] Jesus. Spoke to Peter. About. His. Future. Sufferings. And. Peter. Said.

[16:34] This. Shall not. Be unto thee. The spirit. Of the Lord. Was. Grieved. Is there anything. Tantamount.

[16:46] In your. Experience. With. Pelo. Believers. When they have not. Spoken. To God's honor. And your spirit. Has been. Grieved.

[16:57] And that's. Been. An affliction. An affliction. Of the righteous. Yes. Then again.

[17:08] We look at it. From the other aspect. And find. Sometimes. That. In our. Unguarded. Moments. We have said.

[17:18] Something. Or. Done. Something. Which we. Deeply. Regreted. Our. Natural. Mind. Our. Carnal. Mind. Might have. Said. It was. Quite.

[17:29] The right. Thing. To do. But. That. Which is. Spiritual. Will be. Grieved. Because. What. Has. Been. Said.

[17:39] Or. What. Has. Been. Done. Has. Not. Been. For. The honor. And. Glory. Of. God. But. Only. For. The satisfaction. Of. I. And.

[17:51] The spirit. Has. Been. Grieved. And. That. Has. Been. An. Affliction. Of. The righteous. You. Will. Not. Find. That. Kind. Of. Affliction. Amongst.

[18:02] Those. That. Have. No. Grace. They. Will. Be. Well. Satisfied. With. Their. Remarkable. Zeal. We.

[18:14] Read. Of. Jehu. In. The. Old. Testament. Who. Said. Come. See. My. Zeal. For. The. Lord. God. It.

[18:25] Would. Have. Grieved. The. People. Of. God. And. It. Would. Have. Grieved. The. Spirit. Of. God. Too. And. If. You. Read. Their. Capt. Maybe. You. All. Come. To. The.

[18:35] Same. Conclusion. But. It. Is. An. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. And. Then. Again.

[18:46] An. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. Will. Be. The. Scorn. Which. Must. Necessarily.

[18:57] Be. Incurbed. And. Attracted. To. The. Person. That. Fears. God. Especially. If.

[19:08] They're. Low. And. In. A. Low. Place. When. You. Look. At. The. Twenty. Second. Psalm. Which.

[19:21] As. I. Feel. Contains. The. Words. Of. The. Lord. Praying.

[19:31] On. The. Cross. Even. Though. Only. The. First. Few. Words. Are. Spoken. Of. It. Would. Draw. For. The. Scorn. Of.

[19:41] Any. Person. Who. Does. Not. Possess. Divine. A. Divine. Nature. My. God. My. God. Why.

[19:52] Has. Thou. Forsaken. Me. Why. Art. Thou. So. Far. From. Helping. Me. And. From. The. Words. Of. My. Roaring. Is. This.

[20:02] An. Affliction. To. The. Ungodly. It. Was. An. Affliction. To. Our. Dear. Lord. Jesus. Christ. The. Man. Christ.

[20:13] Jesus. And. It. Is. An. Affliction. To. The. Righteous. As. We. Read. In. Jeremiah. As. We. Sung.

[20:23] In. Our. Opening. Hymn. Oh. My. God. I. Cry. In. The. Daytime. And. Thou. Hearest. Not. And. In. The. Night. Seasons. And. Am. Not. Silent. But.

[20:37] Notice. What. Now. Comes. Revealing. The. Holy. Nature. Of. The. Son. Of. Man.

[20:49] And. That. Which. Is. Holy. In. Every. Person. Born. Again. Of. The. Spirit. But. Thou. Art. Holy. Oh. Thou. That. Inhabiteth. The. Praises. Of.

[20:59] Israel. Our. Fathers. Trusted. In. The. They. Trusted. And. Thou. Did. Deliver. Them. They. Cried. Unto. The. And. Were. Delivered. They. Trusted.

[21:09] In. The. And. Were. Not. Confounded. But. I. Am. A. Worth. And. No. Man. A. Reproach. Of. Men. And.

[21:20] Despised. Of. The. People. All. They. That. See. Me. Laugh. Me. To. Scorn. They. Shoot. Out. The. Lip. They. Shake. The. Head. Saying. He. Trusted. On. The. Lord. That. He. Would. Deliver.

[21:31] Him. Let's. Him. Deliver. Him. Seeing. He. Delighted. In. Him. Afflictions. Of. The. Righteous. The. Lord. Jesus. The.

[21:41] Captain. Of. Our. Salvation. If. We. Are. Amongst. The. Elect. Of. God. If. We. Amongst. The. Righteous. Well. Do.

[21:52] We. Understand. This. Kind. Of. Afflection. Soul. Affliction. Something. Which. Is. Felt. The.

[22:03] Him. Takes. It. Up. Like. This. There. Is. A. Family. On. Earth. Whose. Father. Fills. A. Throne. But. Though. A. Seed. Of.

[22:14] Heavenly. Birth. To. Men. Their. Little. Known. Whene'er. They. Meet. The. Public. Eye. They. Feel. The. Public. Scorn.

[22:26] And. Men. Their. Fairest. Claims. Deny. And. Count. Them. Basely. Born. Has. This. Been.

[22:36] A. Fix. You. In. Your. Soul. Not. A. Word. Spoken. But. The. Eye. Oh. How.

[22:47] Scornful. Can. The. Eye. Be. Sometimes. And. Sometimes. Even. If. A.

[22:57] Word. Is. Spoken. Scorn. Is. Directed. Into. Your. Very. Soul. By. Just. An. Exclamation. Oh. But. It's. An. Affliction. Of.

[23:07] The. Righteous. So. We. May. Go. On. Reading. Down. This. Twenty. Second. Psalm. You. Might. Like. To. Meditate. It. Might. Meditate.

[23:18] Upon. It. As. The. Spirit. May. Lead. You. Thinking. Upon. The. Lord. Expressing. Himself. To. His. Father. In. These. Words.

[23:29] Whilst. He. Was. On. The. Cross. Before. He. Conquered. What. A. Deliverance. Was. Before. Him. And. Yet. Deliverance. Looks.

[23:39] So. Far. From. Him. According. To. The. View. Of. Men. And. Does. Deliverance. Look. Impossible. To. You. Is. It. A. Long. Way. Away. You.

[23:50] Know. Not. How. Near. It. Is. It. Is. Darkest. Before. The. Dawn. It. Is. Said. And. Here. We. Find. It.

[24:00] Was. Darkness. Indeed. For. Three. Hours. The. Lord. Jesus. Had. Endured. On. The. Cross. The. Hidings. Of. His. Father's. Face. Which.

[24:12] Meant. Much. More. To. Him. Than. He. Does. To. You. And. Me. Because. He. Had. The. Constant. Awareness. Of. That. Union. With.

[24:22] His. Father. Many. Are. The. Afflictions. Of. The. Righteous.

[24:34] The. Afflictions. Of. The. Righteous. Must. Also. Include. Persecution. Persecution. Now.

[24:45] It. Will. Not. Do. For. You. And. Me. To. Say. Well. Of. Course. We. Don't. Know. About. Persecution. Today. Now.

[24:55] If. That's. So. Then. You. Know. Nothing. About. The. Afflictions. Of. The. Righteous. The. The. The. Righteous.

[25:06] Are. Persecuted. As. Much. Today. As. They. Ever. Were. It. Is. True. That. They. Are. Not. Burnt. At. Time. It.

[25:17] Is. True. That. They. Are. Not. Subjected. To. The. Vicious. Attacks. Of. Diabolical. Men. As. Was.

[25:28] Once. The. Case. In. Our. Own. Land. And. Is. The. Case. In. Some. Lands. Today. But. Nonetheless. The. Righteous. Will. Be. Affected.

[25:39] By. Persecution. Today. As. They. Ever. Were. The. Persecution. Will. Not.

[25:49] Have. To. Go. Outside. Of. Themselves. Would. You. Understand. Me. If. Being.

[26:00] Upon. Your. Knees. In. Prayer. Your. Carnal. Mind. Has. Laughed. At. You. What.

[26:11] Are. You. Doing. There. What. Do. You. Expect. Your. Prayers. Are. Not. Even. Logical. They're. Not. Even. Two. Words. Together. The.

[26:25] Laugh. Of. The. Current. Mind. Is. Persecution. Indeed. Then. There. Is. The. Persecution. Of. The. Devil.

[26:35] Himself. Would. You. Not. Know. Anything. About. That. It. Is. An. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. Continually. Suggesting.

[26:47] That. You. Never. Make. The. Shore. Continually. Casting. A. Doubt. Upon. The. Validity. Of. Your. Relationship. With. God.

[26:59] And. It. Is. An. Affliction. Many. Are. The. Afflictions. Of. The. Righteous. So. Then. We. We. Shall. Have. Afflictions.

[27:09] From. The. Devil. And. We. Shall. Have. Afflictions. From. The. Flesh. And. We. Shall. Also. Have. Afflictions. From. The. World. Now.

[27:21] If. You. Don't. Get. Any. Of. These. Afflictions. Then. There. Must. Be. A. Great. Question. Mark. Against. You. As. To. Whether. You.

[27:32] Are. Righteous. As. To. Whether. You. Know. Anything. Of. The. Afflictions. Of. The. Righteous. Then.

[27:44] The. Psalmist. Speaks. Of. Another. Affliction. In. The. One. Hundred. And. Sixteen. Psalm.

[27:57] He. Says. I. Was. Greatly. Afflicted. I.

[28:07] Said. In. My. Hast. All. Men. Are. Liars. Now. That. Is. An. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. I.

[28:19] Said. In. My. Hast. All. Men. Are. Liars. Did. He. Say. To. Anybody. That.

[28:30] Could. Hear. Not. Necessarily. So. He. Could. Have. Said. It. Silently.

[28:43] The. Unbelief. Of. His. Heart. Could. Have. Said. All. Men. Are. Liars. And. Then. It. Takes. Us. To. An. Affliction. Which. Is. Described.

[28:54] To. Us. Twice. In. The. Word. Of. God. In. The. Fourteenth. Psalm. And. I. Think. The. Fifty. Third. Psalm. Which.

[29:05] Are. Almost. Identical. The. Fool. Hath. Said. In. His. Heart. There. Is. No. God. They. Are. Corrupt. They. Have. Done. Abominable.

[29:15] Works. With. Good. Now. This. Is. An. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. The.

[29:28] Ungodly. May. Easily. Say. There. Is. No. God. I. Never. Realize. The. Dreadfulness. Is.

[29:39] Their. Outburst. To. To. Feel. That. In. Your. Heart. Your. Deceitful. Heart. There. Is.

[29:49] This. Whisper. There. Is. No. God. This. Is. An. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. Infidelity.

[30:01] Is. Very. So. How. We. May. Be. Pushed. Around. Sometimes. And. Pushed. About. And.

[30:12] Then. We. Might. Well. Say. We. Get. In. My. I. Am. The. Man. That. A. Theme. Of. Fiction. And. We. Can. Only. Speak. For. Ourselves.

[30:23] I. Am. The. Man. That. A. Theme. Affliction. By. The. Wrath. Of. His. Wrath. He. Hedged. Me. About. I. Cannot. Get. Out. Here. He. Hath. Made. My. Afflictions.

[30:39] Abound. Paul. When he. Was. When he. Describes. His. Life.

[30:53] Since. He. Believed. He. Was. Subjected. To. Many. Afflictions. So. He. Tells. Us. In.

[31:04] His. Second. Ephesial. To. The. Corinthians. A. Detail. Of. What. These. Afflictions. Were. He.

[31:15] Says. That. He. Was. In. Trouble. From. All. Quarters. Of.

[31:27] The. Jews. In. Labors. More. Abundant. In. Stripes. Above. Measure. In. Prisons. More. Frequent. In. Death. Soft.

[31:37] Of. The. Jews. Five. Times. Received. Thy. Forty. Stripes. Save. One. Thrice. Was. I. Beaten. With. Rods. Once. Was. I. Stoned. Thrice.

[31:47] I. Suffered. Chipwreck. Day. And. Tonight. I. Have. Been. In. The. Deep. We. May. Say. Well. Of. Course. We. Could. Not. Possibly. Know.

[31:58] Those. Kind. Of. Afflictions. But. What. About. These. In. Journeys. Of. In. Perils. Of.

[32:08] Waters. In. Perils. Of. Robbers. I. I'm. Sure. Some. Of. You. Would.

[32:19] Know. What. That. Is. Even. When. You. Collected. Some. Morsel. In. The. Sermon. Or. The. House. Of. God. In. The. Service. And.

[32:30] You. Been. Robbed. At. The. Threshold. Of. The. House. Of. God. And. That's. Always. There. Whether. It. Becomes. Real. Or.

[32:40] Whether. God. Prevent. It. In. Perils. Of. Robbers. And. We. Look. At. It. Also. From. This. Point. Of. View. In.

[32:51] Perils. Of. Robbers. Wherein. Have. We. Robbed. The. We. Read. In. The. Book. Of. Malachi. Wherein. Have. We. Robbed. The. Would. That. Question.

[34:53] Afflictions. Afflictions. Contained. In. Such. Things. As. Weariness. And. Painfulness. In.

[35:04] Watchings. Often. Is. There. Any. Is. There. Any. Afflictions. In. Watchings. Often. There. There. There.

[35:14] Is. In. This. Way. It's. Not. Easy. To. Watch. Not. Even. For. A. Few. Minutes. You. You. Can. Can. Soon. Test. This. Out. By.

[35:26] By. By. Someone. Asking. You. To. Watch. Even. For. Five. Minutes. And. If. It. Should. Be. Half. An.

[35:36] Hour. You. Will. Find. It. Very. Difficult. To. Watch. That. Is. To. Watch. Carefully. Many. People.

[35:47] Will. Say. Yes. I. Been. Watching. All. The. Time. If. I. Can. Bring. A. Home. A. Scene. You. See. People. Have. Said. Yes. I. Will. Watch.

[35:57] The. Milk. They. Said. I. Was. Watching. But. It. Pulled. Over. They. Weren't. Watching. Were. They. So. You. See. The. Depth.

[36:07] That. Is. Contained. In. Watching. And. The. We. Possess. In. Watching. Now.

[36:19] If. That. Watching. Is. For. Some. Time. What. Is. The. Peril. Of. It. What. Is. The. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. In. It. We.

[36:31] Go. To. The. Garden. Of. Gethsemane. Where. We. See. Those. Three. Disciples. The. Lord. Went. A little. Further. And. He. Fell. On. His. Face. And. He. Prayed. Unto. His. Father. If.

[36:42] It. Be. Possible. Let. This. Come. Pass. From. Me. Nevertheless. Not. Thy. Will. But. Thy. Mind. Thy. Redone. And. He. Come. It. To. His. Disciples. And. He. And.

[36:53] He. Found. Them. Sleeping. Now. Listen. To. What. He. Said. Could. Ye. Not. Watch. With. Me. One. Hour. It.

[37:04] Is. Not. Could. Ye. Not. Pray. With. Me. One. Hour. But. Could. Ye. Not. Watch. With. Me. One. Hour. What. An. Affliction. Is.

[37:15] A. Sleepy. Spirit. When. We. Are. Called. Upon. As. We. Are. To. Watch. Off. Off. To. Watch. Off. How.

[37:29] Compassionate. Was. Our. Lord. Jesus. Christ. When. He. Said. The. Spirit. Is. Willing. But.

[37:39] The. Flesh. Is. Weak. Nevertheless. His. Counsel. Was. This. Watch. And. Pray. And. Again. I. Say. Unto. You. Watch.

[37:50] In. Watchings. Often. In. Hunger. And. Thirst. The. Affliction. Of. The. Righteous. Is. Hunger. And. Thirst.

[38:00] After. The. Things. Of. Righteousness. Is. This. True. Do. You. Have. To. Acknowledge. It. Before. God.

[43:33] When you get a glimpse of Christ, when you get a glimpse of eternity, when you're able to say the joy prepared for suffering saints will make amends for all.

[43:47] What is the joy? The joy of the Lord is your strength, we read in Nehemiah. The joy of the Lord is your strength.

[44:00] Can you link this up with those words that I've referred to in Paul's experience? My strength is made perfect in weakness.

[44:10] The joy of the Lord. We may link this up with Hebrews 12 where we read, concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, consider him who suffered such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be weary and faint in your moral mind, who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is now set down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

[44:48] Are we followers of the Lord Jesus Christ? then, by his grace, we shall endure the cross, despising the shame, for the joy that is set before us.

[45:08] John records something which is really quite remarkable in the 13th chapter of the Gospel. Now, before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come, that he should depart out of this world unto the Father.

[45:28] Having loved his own, which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. But, his sufferings were before him. Gethsemane was before him.

[45:42] The judgment hall was before him. Peter's denial was before him. The dreadful words and persecutions of men was before him.

[46:00] The hiding of his father's face was before him. So then, would it have not been proper when Jesus knew that his hour was come, that all these dreadful things were yet to be endured?

[46:15] No. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. When the hour was come, that he should depart out of this world unto the Father.

[46:30] There was deliverance. A conquest would then be won. Those glorious words would have been spoken with all the clarity and power and loudness that all the earth might hear.

[46:48] It is finished. Those words would then have been spoken. Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. For the Lord delivereth them out of them all.

[47:01] now, reverting to our reference just now, our light of fiction, which is but for a moment, but only while we look not at the things which are seen, not at the pains, not at the people that are troubling us, but to look beyond this present scene and to hear the sound of victory sounding in our ears.

[47:33] Knowing all these things, we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Looking, as it were, into the book of the Revelation and there to get just a glimpse of that glorious song which directs our attention to the Lamb himself and they sung a new song saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open the seals thereof for Thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation and hast made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth.

[48:30] I behold, I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands sang with a loud voice worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.

[48:55] Do you get a glimpse of the heavenly song in the midst of your affliction sometimes that will cause you to get the feeling of deliverance?

[49:12] the feeling of deliverance? In the seventh chapter we hear the question answered, asked, one of the elders asked, what are these which are arrayed in white robes and whence came they?

[49:33] These are they which came out of great tribulation and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

[49:52] They shall hunger no more neither thirst any more neither shall the sun light on them nor any heat for the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them and shall lead them unto living fountains of water.

[50:07] Thank God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. The afflictions of the righteous may involve the shedding of tears sometimes.

[50:24] If it is not physical it may be well so internally our spirits may be dissolved in sadness and sorrow and in grief but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.

[50:46] What a deliverance what a rest remains to the people of God. So then we shall have to come with the apostle when he said affliction but afflictions abide me.

[51:10] Afflictions abide me. Now that I'm old and gray headed said the psalmist forsake me not. What a concurrence there is in the scriptures in reference to the experience of all the saints of God.

[51:30] God but deliverance was assured. We may have to fight our battles. We may be wounded.

[51:44] We may indeed come unto those places that will crucify our flesh and the flesh may cry out I shall have no more of this and God delivers you from the power of the flesh by the outpouring of his abundant grace that will enable you to follow the good hymn writer when after raising this point they must it bore this soul and must thy children bear such various kinds of woes and soul perplexing fear are these the blessings we expect is this the lot of God's elect boast not ye sons of earth here is the voice of the righteous would it be your voice nor look with scornful eyes above your highest mirth thou saddest ours we prize for though our cup seems filled with gall there's something secret sweet and tall and the secret of the Lord is with them that fear him and he will show them his covenant and what is the result how harsh thou air the way dear saviour still lead on nor leave me till I say father thy will be done that's deliverance the

[54:52] God the will of God is expressed in the words of Holy Scripture if we suffer with him we shall also reign with him there's no suffering there will be no reigning the ungodly whether profane or religious will not suffer as the righteous do and in consequence they will not know the joy that the righteous will know because they will hear those glorious words come thou blessed of my father enter into the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world many not a few daily not just occasionally many are the afflictions of the righteous but the
