Young People's Service - Storehouses (with hymns not Gadsby's probably Stevens)
[0:00] In number 406, Jude, Jerusalem, number 162.
[0:12] There is a blended land above, a city pure and bright, where all who know the Savior's love shall walk with him into the point. Point 6.
[0:30] There is a blended land above, a city pure and bright, where all who know the Savior's love shall walk with him in my, shall walk with him in my, shall walk, shall walk with him in my.
[1:20] piece of independence, Democrations and a man, now total among the good and the holy land, shall walk with him in my.
[1:43] O land shallMere free Tucharme forever there Tucharme forever there To hell, to hell forevermore.
[2:21] The great of grace of God will see that only shining light the dew and o'er the day will be.
[2:54] That is not good of love, that is not good of love, that is not good of love.
[3:21] Yes! Oh, may the earth are so amazing, then sadly don't rue, that's glorious deed.
[3:55] Who gives the song Transportation The end of the day The end of the day
[4:58] The end of the day The end of the day The end of the day
[6:28] The end of the day The end of the day I shall say a little
[7:30] Just a little about Joseph But show you That a greater Than Joseph Is here I want most of all To say something about the storehouses Which Jesus has said Which Jesus has hoped for poor sinners like you and the preacher too To get good for their souls To get good for their souls Get blessing for everything else to me and they say As hospitals and the patient is geworden to be moving on andoty within the day TheMoUni実 And He will ask the joins to the sharing and the biếtroom The Suzanne is filled on all 2 miracles here and it must look for much hazardous And there isn't a copy of the church enough too as in Christ the olduğu day You are reminded, if you are indeed a sinner born again, on every page setting forth is life, that a greater than Joseph is here.
[8:34] Because Joseph was what is called a type of Jesus Christ. The meaning of a type is that there are those things to be seen in connection with Joseph and the life he lived that call our thoughts to Jesus Christ.
[8:58] You find that Solomon was a type of Jesus Christ.
[9:09] And yet, you must not think that as you read the life that Solomon lived, that in all details he was a type of Jesus Christ. But the meaning is in the office that he filled.
[9:22] Solomon was a great king, and he was ordained of God to reign on Israel's throne, and his reign was a reign of peace.
[9:38] And thus, in that viewpoint, in the office he filled as Israel's king, Solomon was a type of Christ. And so, in the life that Joseph lived, there are many details, which when you come to read the life that Jesus lived, were fulfilled much deeper down in his life than even they were in the life that Joseph lived.
[10:07] And now, first of all, I will just look at Joseph and touch on some things, only a few, in the life that he lived, where you see that Jesus Christ is figured forth also.
[10:27] And now, I need not tell you that Joseph was ill-treated by his brethren.
[10:39] The word of God tells us, very solemn, it is the reading of it. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren, and they hated him yet the more.
[10:52] And he said unto them, Here I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed. For behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf arose and also stood upright.
[11:08] And behold, your sheaf stood around about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us?
[11:21] Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words.
[11:33] And it says in the earlier context that his brethren hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him.
[11:45] And now, when Joseph dreamed that dream, it was not just a dream. It was something from God. And while Joseph was so young as he was, yet at the same time, it was of God that he dreamed such a dream.
[12:04] And it gave to Joseph an intimation that God, in his later life, would work out what that dream set forth.
[12:15] And so, it came to pass. Because you find that later on, Joseph's brethren, when they had to go down into Egypt, when Joseph had opened all the storehouses because of the famine that was in the land, then, as they appeared before Joseph, the word of God tells us that they did bow down to him, made obeisance, although they did not know Joseph at that time.
[12:55] Yet Joseph knew them, although they knew not him. And he saw his dreams fulfilled. And they carried their envy and hatred to a great degree, so that when they had the opportunity to do it, then they sold Joseph, for the price of a slave, twenty pieces of silver.
[13:21] And there he was carried on his way down into Egypt. And now, when you think of Joseph being treated like that, if you turn to the word of God and read what is recorded there concerning Jesus, it will tell you how he was treated much deeper down than even Joseph was, sad as it was.
[13:58] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
[14:12] And the attitude of the people, amongst whom Jesus lived his life, seeking to do good as every opportunity was afforded, we will not have this man to reign over us.
[14:28] Depart from us, we desire not the knowledge of thee, or thy ways. And yet, whilst Joseph's brethren ultimately did bow down to him, you find what the word of God says regarding Jesus.
[14:48] And I want to warn you, dear young people, that unless you are sinners born again, and are brought to bow down, and give to Jesus, obeisance, and that which is his due, and own him as your Lord, your God, alas, what will become of you when time shall be no more?
[15:22] You will be found where hope and mercy are unknown. And now listen, wherefore, God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God, the Father.
[15:56] Do you confess that Jesus Christ is Lord? Have you had, as yet, any experience wrought in your life, whereby, if you were asked, what think ye of Christ, you could answer, we believe, and assure, thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God?
[16:24] Lord, to whom can we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. Dear young people, the pastor does wish you the blessing of the Lord, but I must question you to have a good conscience when I come down to die.
[16:44] Have you bowed at any time yet before Jesus Christ, realizing your undone state in the Adam fall, your guiltiness before God, being the sinner that you really are?
[17:01] Have your eyes been opened to behold it? Does your heart throb at times with solemn concern that you might find Jesus Christ to be a blessed reality in your soul's experience?
[17:18] obedience. And now coming back to Joseph, it is said of Joseph when he went down into Egypt after he was taken out of the pit and sold, as I said, for the twenty pieces of silver that he was found in prison.
[17:42] and there he was innocent of the charge laid against him, but he was in prison. And there he reminds you of Jesus Christ.
[17:58] And it says of Jesus and he was numbered with the transgressors. And if I can make it plain, do you remember the butler and the baker of Pharaoh were in prison for some evils which they had done, and they had dreams also, and Joseph interpreted those dreams, and as his interpretation was, so it came to pass.
[18:32] The butler was restored to his place in Pharaoh's court, but the baker was put to death. Does that cause you to think that when Jesus Christ hung on Calvary's cross, there were two prisoners, guilty, godless prisoners, hung one on either side.
[18:59] One was saved. One was lost. There you see Joseph being in prison, numbered with the transgressors, sets forth Jesus Christ from that viewpoint, and then Joseph had a name given to him by Pharaoh, and it is a striking name, and he named him Zaphna Payoneer, and that means a revealer of secrets.
[19:44] And now, the word of God tells us the secret of the Lord is with them that fear him, and he will show them his covenant.
[19:57] Jesus said to his disciples, unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.
[20:09] And, dear young people, as you live your lives, you will find as you go on, there will be difficulties arise, as well as the duties that devolve upon you, and you will be brought into straits, and when you are, I do hope you will remember that there is a greater than Joseph, and that you have the privilege to go to him in your felt need of his divine aid, and in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God, and he can reveal to you secrets, he can grant you wisdom from above to handle life's matters wisely, and his word is, in fact, it is a storehouse that Jesus has opened, if any lack wisdom, let him ask of
[21:12] God, who giveth to all men liberally, and afraid it not, and it shall be given him, and now, what was it that ultimately drove the people to Joseph, and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and what did they contain?
[21:35] Oh, they contained that which was essential, bread, as the staff of life, and Pharaoh said to the famished Egyptians, when they were brought into dire straits, and on the verge of starvation, go unto Joseph, and what he saith unto you, do, and now, in the world, through the Adam fall, there is indeed a famine, a spiritual famine, so that, when poor sinners are wrought on by the Spirit of God, and feel their souls deep down need, they may look this way and that beneath the sun, but they cannot find in any earthly source whatever, that which will solace their soul.
[22:35] You cannot find that which will ease a guilty conscience, relieve a troubled breast, or bless indeed your cast down soul beneath the sun.
[22:48] It is that which a man cannot receive, except it be given him from heaven. And now, as it was famine that drove the people of Egypt to go to Joseph and buy corn, what a scene it must have been when, first of all, Joseph opened the storehouses then, to see the people on the verge of starvation as I said, coming from all quarters, if so be, they could obtain that which would help them to live on.
[23:29] And remember, if any of you should have such a need deep down in your soul, and that you can understand the hymn writer, when he said, none but Jesus, none but Jesus, can do helpless sinners good, what are you to do?
[23:53] Go to Jesus, and what he said unto you, do. And what has he said to poor sinners in such a case, who feel a deep down famine, in their soul's experience.
[24:11] Oh, words so beautifully simple, and I have thought many times in my ministerial life, how little are they understood and reduced to practice, and it comes to my mind, while I have told you that, I have never yet preached from that subject.
[24:30] Ask, and ye shall receive, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Do remember that, dear young people, wherever you may be, you can stand at the foot of Jacob's ladder at any time, anywhere, and with faith as a grain of mustard seed, you can look up and see the Lord standing above it to help you, and to bless you, and to make you welcome in your approaches unto him the majesty of heaven.
[25:11] Do remember, God is approachable. And now, just another thought, ere I come to speak about the storehouses.
[25:23] Joseph's brethren did bow down before Joseph, although they did not know who he was till he made himself known. But, what did they say when they bowed down?
[25:36] They spoke in their own language, and they did not know that Joseph could understand what they were saying, for he spoke to them through an interpreter.
[25:48] Oh, said Joseph's brethren, we are verily guilty concerning our brother. Here we are, all these years afterward, and brought to such a pass as this, and now, lo, the word of God is true.
[26:09] Be sure your sin will find you out, and we are found out. We are guilty concerning our brother. And now, that is just a picture of how God, in his infinite mercy, leads poor sinners into the truth, as he makes it known in its power and preciousness in their soul's experience.
[26:36] He brings them in guilty under his holy law, so that they stand before him and solemnly confess how guilty they are, and they are made to say, if my soul is sent to hell, thy righteous law approves it well, and they are verily guilty before God with whom they have to do.
[27:08] But, oh, the gospel makes known that though poor sinners such as we are, are guilty beyond words to describe, yet God is good.
[27:20] O, he delighteth in mercy, he delighteth to dispense it, and as Joseph made himself known to his brethren, and pardoned them for their behavior to him long years before, even so, Jesus Christ is a God ready to pardon.
[27:45] Sinner, if thou wert taught to see how great thy guilt thy misery, in every thought and act impure, the blood of Christ thy soul can cure.
[27:58] Then there is just another thought, and that is, go to him who is greater than Joseph, I said, and what he saith unto you, do.
[28:11] And now you may have your own thoughts about it, and the devil will stir you up sometimes, and fill you with ifs and buts and hows about going.
[28:24] You might say, shall I be welcome? And now there is only one answer to that, him that cometh unto me, I will never, no, never, no, never, cast out.
[28:39] Did ever sinner sink to woe, thirsting for pardoning grace? Ten thousand voices answer no, none die that seek his face.
[28:51] And now some had to journey far to Joseph's storehouses, but to go to the storehouses opened by Jesus is just a matter of moments.
[29:02] Prayer ascends Jacob's ladder. Yea, there is a very great scripture before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear.
[29:15] And then there is this thought, Egypt's granaries could be and were exhausted, but the storehouses opened by Jesus, never, never, the thing is impossible, and here it is well to remember the Egyptians in going to Joseph to the storehouses that he opened, they had to buy to receive what the storehouses contained.
[29:49] Eh, but the gospel is on another basis altogether. Oh, it tells us, O everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and they that have no money, come ye buy wine and milk without money, and without price.
[30:12] There is a lovely verse in one of our hymns, which I do love to ponder, and I often quote it, Approach ye poor, no dare refuse the banquet spread for you, dear saviour, this is welcome news, for I may venture to.
[30:35] And now, that will be sufficient about Joseph, and how he was a type of Jesus Christ, I come now to look at the subject from the viewpoint, and Joseph opened all the storehouses, taking out the name Joseph, we put in Jesus, and Jesus opened all the storehouses, and now, the first storehouse, that was opened by Jesus, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Trinity, was in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, but there is a matter I want you to lay to heart as it is harvest time, and you dear young people, do listen, I jotted down some thoughts to make sure I should be able to put them before you aright.
[31:42] As we approach the season of harvest, we are within a month or two of utter starvation, the barrel of meal is nearly exhausted, and no new supply can be obtained until the harvest is ripened and then gathered in.
[32:01] If the winds were permitted to thrash the fields, or the mildew to blight them, or the caterpillar to devour them, or the rain or the drought to prevent the air from filling and ripening, no worldly wealth would avail to stay the terrible consequences.
[32:19] Mankind would be overwhelmed with a common ruin. all the other riches in the world, coal, iron, gold, and jewels, would be as worthless as the dust beneath our feet, if the riches of our golden harvest fields should fail.
[32:40] Do think on that. God has guaranteed that seed time and harvest shall not fail. and do you say thank you to God and say it in the lives you live.
[32:58] Another thought is this. Corn is the special gift of God to man. All the cereal plants such as corn, wheat, barley, rice, maize, rye, etc.
[33:16] they are never found in a wild state. As it was when the earth was created it remains the same and it is a cultivated plant.
[33:30] If it is neglected of men it speedily disappears and dies out. This proves it is produced miraculously and is given by God to man directly as it now appears.
[33:46] And if you go back to the beginning and God said behold I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed to you it shall be for meat.
[34:10] These things didn't evolve. They were there and God said and it was so. Yes remember that and to every beast of the earth and to every fowl of the air and to everything that creepeth upon the earth wherein there is life I have given every green herb for meat and it was so and it still is and it will be as long as clocks are needed seed time and harvest shall not fail but there is another viewpoint of this which shows to us the wisdom of God the hand of God is seen opened in mercy in as much as corn is universally grown it is almost the only type of plant which is capable of growing in every soil in almost any situation
[35:11] God has adapted corn to grow in all parts of the earth wheat will not thrive in hot climates but flourishes all over the temperate zone of the earth rice is grown in tropical countries and supplies the chief article of diet for the largest proportion of the human race maize spreads over an immense geographical area in the Americas barley is cultivated in parts of Europe and Asia where the soil and climate are not suitable for wheat oats and rye are grown far into the bleak northern regions so that through God's goodness all nations and tribes and tongues can rejoice together as one family with the joy of harvest and remember this corn is an annual plant and can only be propagated by seed
[36:12] God has given it to man on the express stipulation that in the sweat of his brow he should eat his bread such is the storehouse of creation whereby mankind is fed and Jesus opened all the storehouses and nature with open volume stands to spread her maker's praise abroad and every labor of his hands shows something worthy of a God then I would just say a word or two about a wonderful storehouse and that is the storehouse of Providence Providence is a very suggestive word sometimes the young people sing all things live in he doth feed his full hands supplies their need for his mercy shall endure ever faithful ever sure but
[37:23] Providence is a wonderful storehouse if it was prudent and possible I could keep you a long while showing how in the life I have had to live my wife and I in filling our office as the pastor of Union Chapel and living as we have done all these years seeking your good all the thousands of times we have had to draw from the storehouse of Providence and have ever found the Lord is good a stronghold in the day of trouble and he knoweth them that trust in him if you keep it in mind as you read the word of God where did the manna come from that fell morning by morning except the Sabbath morn oh it came from the storehouse of Providence when the east wind brought the quails to feed
[38:24] Israel when they long for flesh where did the quails come from oh they came from the storehouse of Providence when Elijah was by the brook Kirith and the ravens brought him bread and flesh to eat morning and evening where did they get it from they were directed to get it from the storehouse of Providence and when the widow woman scraped the bottom of the barrel and found only a handful of meal and looked in the cruise and could only see a drop of oil what did she prove she proved that there was yet the storehouse of Providence and God's servant Elijah encouraged her thus saith the Lord the barrel of meal shall not waste neither shall the cruise of oil fail and you dear friends older friends this time not so much young though it may be some of you who are young have proved it you think lachy anything by the way and they answered nothing you have not found the barrel of meal to fail nor the cruise of oil you were found every day a handful every day a drop of oil and it says in the word of
[39:53] God and this is what is guaranteed to you not just what you have got in your home life all that is not guaranteed but but it says he shall bless thy bread and thy water and if God is pleased to do that you will know the blessing of good health and be helped to rejoice in him as you see his hand upon you for good Israel when they came out of Egypt and when they traveled in the wilderness it says there was not one feeble person among all their tribes and they just had manna day by day and drank of the water that flowed from the rock that followed them and that rock was Christ the apostle Paul tells us much might be said about these mighty storehouses especially the storehouse of creation the storehouse of providence but then
[40:57] I can only give you hints to prayerfully think about there is the storehouse of the word of God and when you think of what the word of God really is of a truth is it not a storehouse the scriptures and the Lord bear one tremendous name the written and the incarnate word in all things are the same when you are in need you can look into the word of God and find it to be a blessed storehouse you will find exceeding great and precious promises exceeding great and precious precepts to show you the way wherein you should go and as your help to search the scriptures you will find how good it is to draw from such a blessed storehouse for your soul's eternal welfare yea you will say thy word is a lamp unto my feet a light unto my path and as you search the scriptures what will be your chief concern then shall we follow on to know the
[42:15] Lord yes and you will have this feeling uppermost that I may know him who is set forth in the sacred pages that I may know him and the power of his resurrection the fellowship of his sufferings and be made conformable to his death oh it is good to do business in heaven's marketplace to be found at the door of the blessed storehouse of the word of God search the scriptures says the dear saviour and oh what good there is when you are helped to search a right and there is a word here I want to read to you which will show you how you must do business in this storehouse of the word of God my son if thou wilt receive my words and hide my commandments with thee so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to understanding yea if thou cry after knowledge and lift up thy voice for understanding if thou seekest her a silver and searchest for her as for his treasures then shalt thou understand the fear of the law and find the knowledge of
[43:50] God it is not just a promiscuous skimming over the pages of the word of God that is to be designated searching the scriptures no it is to have a feeling like this I seek and hope to find a portion for my soul and to feel as you read I will not let thee go except thou bless me and I might name also another storehouse which is linked up with the word of God and now what a storehouse is the gospel of the grace of God and Jesus opened that storehouse therefore the gospel is called the gospel of Christ because he is the sum and substance of it and one hymn writer says oh what amazing words are in the gospel found suited to every sinner's case who knows his soul's deep wounds blessed gospel it is and a wonderful storehouse and tens of thousands of poor sinners have rejoiced in what that storehouse affords in that storehouse they have found a righteousness even even the righteousness which is of God by faith in Jesus
[45:25] Christ and being clothed therein have been made meat for the inheritance of the saints in light and they have found also the precious blood of Jesus Christ God's son cleanseth from all sin and remember it was Jesus who opened the storehouse of the gospel of his grace when Jesus died on Calvary's cross the word of God tells us the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom and remember dear young friends that veil of the temple was sixty feet high and if man had tried to rent it he would have begun at the bottom but it was God who rent that veil and it was rent in twain from the top to the bottom just another thought as I come toward the amen and
[46:30] Jesus opened all the storehouses and now there is that great storehouse which he has opened and which is still open for poor sinners in their felt need of what that storehouse contains the storehouse of salvation wherein there is the mercy of God to be known and felt wherein forgiveness of sins is to be realized through this man there is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins oh what a mighty storehouse is the storehouse of salvation and he who has opened it his name shall be called Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins and now there is just this thought I want to put into words if any of you dear young people do have it in your hearts that you might win
[47:39] Christ and be found in him and that you might be numbered with his people living and dying if you would possess in your souls experience the all important treasures in these wondrous storehouses what does God say to you in his word I have set before thee an open door and no man can shut it and that door is what you sing about the door of thy mercy stands open all day to the poor and the needy who not by the way no sinner was ever yet empty sent back who came seeking mercy for Jesus sake and oh that God in his infinite condescension would so work amongst you that you might be found knocking at mercy's door and knock and knock and knock again until you are assured beyond all questioning that matters are right between your soul and God then you will know what these storehouses are better than
[49:07] I can tell you because you will know it in your soul's experience you will understand some scriptures which as yet you may pass over when you read I mean scriptures like these it pleased him it pleased the father that in him should all fullness dwell and says godly john and obvious fullness have all we received and grace for grace oh that you might receive it and do remember a fullness resides in Jesus our head and ever abides to answer our need the father's good pleasure has laid up in store a plentiful treasure to give to the poor the lord bless you indeed for time and eternity amen in hymn number 278 tune flamenic companion supplement 864 is there a little sinner here who warns people of sin conceivest beat and shame and fear everything is with you still have said this is there a little in the hill who are people of the days and she will where through and shame and fear the wicked world
[51:37] The End The End The End

[54:27] The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End The End may indeed be numbered with thy jewels in the day when thou shalt make them up in accordance with thy eternal purposes.
[55:38] Oh, that they may know that inestimable mercy, this is life eternal, that they may know thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
[55:54] We do beseech thee to bless them for time and for eternity. We ask in the name of Jesus and may his grace and the love of God the Father, the communion of the Holy Spirit be upon us and all who love the truth everywhere.
[56:21] Amen. Amen. And Amen. I do not need to tell you there is to be a collection as usual in the interest of the Save the Children Fund.
[56:35] The collection at last Young People's Service was £21. and that was very good indeed.
[56:46] I do take pleasure in how you do support this Save the Children Fund and it is a witness for God and I hope you will be helped to continue it.
[56:57] The Lord help you to do what you feel to be right in his sight and bless you in what you have already done.
[57:11] Thank you.
