Mr H Dawson Jubilee Services afternoon. (search under Bethersden or Mr S Delves for evening service)
[0:00] When it was first talked about holding thanksgiving services, on the occasion of the Jubilee of my ministry under Union Chapel Lou, I said when the matter was discussed in the church that if anything was done as regards the matter at all, there were two scriptures that must be kept in mind.
[0:29] And one was that in all things he might have the preeminence. And the other was not unto us, O Lord, not unto us give glory, but unto thy name give glory for thy mercy and for thy true self.
[0:49] And I do hope that our thanksgiving services at this time will fit in with that pattern that is my heartfelt desire.
[1:00] When all is said and done, what has been done that will abide for a time and eternity too is that which God hath wrought.
[1:12] And as we do believe he has wrought much during that long time in my past, we do desire to give unto him the glory that is due unto his holy hand.
[1:28] And I hope that word will be fulfilled amongst us at this time. And unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
[1:39] Let us commence our service by singing hymn number one, to Dearest 633.
[1:51] Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion city of our God. He whose word cannot be broken, form thee for his own abode.
[2:04] On the rock of ages founded, what can shake thy sure repose? With salvation's walls surrounded, thou mayest smile at all thy foes.
[2:18] Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion city of our God. The Lord, who is what cannot be broken, He whose word cannot be broken, He whose word cannot be broken, He whose word cannot be broken, He whose word cannot be broken, Won't be broken, Won't be broken, Won't be broken, Or莫 chains that have Shane and died.

[3:18] Thank you.
[3:48] Thank you.
[4:18] Thank you.
[4:48] Thank you. Thank you.
[5:48] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
[6:48] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
[7:00] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
[7:12] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
[7:52] Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And from the Lord Jesus Christ. And from the Lord Jesus Christ.
[8:04] I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. Always in every prayer of mine for you all.
[8:15] Making requests with joy for your fellowship in the gospel. From the first day until now.
[8:28] Being confident of this very thing. That he which hath begun a good work in you.
[8:40] Will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all.
[8:54] Because I have you in my heart. In as much as both in my bonds. And in the defense and confirmation of the gospel.
[9:08] Ye all are partakers of my grace. For God is my record. How greatly I long after you all.
[9:22] In the bowels of Jesus Christ. And this I pray. That your love may abound.
[9:33] Yet more and more. In knowledge. And in all judgment. That ye may approve. Things that are excellent.
[9:47] That ye may be sincere. And without offense. Till the day of Christ. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness.
[10:02] Which are by Jesus Christ. Unto the glory and praise of God. But I would ye should.
[10:15] Understand brethren. That the things which happened unto me. Have fallen out. Rather. Unto the furtherance.
[10:26] Of the gospel. So that. My bonds in Christ. Are manifest. In all the palace. And in all other places.
[10:40] And many of the brethren. In the Lord. Waxing confident. By my bonds. Are much more bold. To speak the word.
[10:52] Without fear. Some indeed. Preach Christ. Even of envy. And strife.
[11:02] And some also. Of good will. The one. Preach Christ. Christ of contention. Not sincerely.
[11:15] Supposing. To add. Affliction. To my bonds. But the other. Of love. Knowing that I am set.
[11:27] For the defense. Of the gospel. For the gospel. What then. Notwithstanding. Every way. Whether in pretense.
[11:40] Or in truth. Christ. Is preached. And I therein. Do rejoice. Yea. And will.
[11:51] Rejoice. For I know. That this. Shall tend. Turn. To my salvation. Through your prayer.
[12:02] And. The supply. Of the spirit. Of Jesus Christ. According. To my earnest. Expectation.
[12:14] And. My hope. That in nothing. I shall be ashamed. But that. With all boldness. As always.
[12:26] So now. Also. Christ. Christ. Shall be magnified. In my body. Whether it be. By life. Or.
[12:37] By death. For to me. To live. Is Christ. And. To die. Is gain.
[12:48] But if I live in the flesh. This is the fruit. Of my labor. Forever. Yet. What I shall choose. I. Wot not.
[13:00] For I am in a straight. Betwixt. Two. Having. A desire. To depart. And to be. With Christ. Which is.
[13:11] Far better. Nevertheless. To abide in the flesh. Is more needful. For you. And having this confidence.
[13:25] I know that. I shall abide. And continue. With you all. For your furtherance. And joy. Of faith.
[13:38] That. Your rejoicing. May be more abundant. In Jesus Christ. For me. By my coming. To you.
[13:49] Again. Only. Let your conversation. Be as it becometh. The gospel. Of Christ. That whether I come.
[14:01] And see you. Or else be absent. I may hear. Of your affairs. That ye stand fast. In one spirit.
[14:13] With one mind. Striving. Together. For the faith. For the faith. Of the gospel. And in. Nothing.
[14:23] Terrified. By your. Adversaries. Which is. To them. An evident. Token. Of perdition. But. To you.
[14:34] Of salvation. And that. Of God. For unto you. It is given. In the behalf.
[14:44] Of Christ. Not only. To believe. On him. But also. To suffer. For his. Sake. Having.
[14:56] The same. Conflict. Which ye saw. In me. And now. Here to be. In me. If there be.
[15:07] Therefore. Any consolation. In Christ. If any. Comfort. Of love. If any. Fellowship. Of the spirit.
[15:18] If any. Bowels. And mercies. Fulfill. Ye. My. Joy. That. Ye. Be like. Minded.
[15:29] Having. The same. Love. Being. Of one. Accord. Of one. Mind. Let nothing. Be done.
[15:40] Through strife. Or vain. Glory. But. In lowliness. Of mind. Let each. Esteem.
[15:50] Other. Better. Than themselves. Look. Not every man. On his own. Things. But every man.
[16:01] Also. On the things. Of others. Let. This mind. Be in you. Which was. Also. In Christ.
[16:12] Jesus. Who. Being. In the form. Of God. Thought it. Not robbery. To be equal. With God.
[16:24] Thus. Made himself. Of no reputation. And took. And took. Upon him. The form. Of a servant. And was made.
[16:35] In the likeness. Of men. And. Being found. In fashion. As a man. He humbled himself.
[16:47] And became obedient. Unto death. Even. Even. The death. Of the cross. Wherefore. God.
[16:57] Also. Hath highly. Exalted him. And given him. A name. Which is above. Every name. That at the name.
[17:10] Of Jesus. Every knee. Should bow. Of things. In heaven. And things. In earth. And things.
[17:21] Under the earth. And. That every tongue. Should confess. That Jesus Christ. Is Lord.
[17:31] To the glory. Of God. The father. There we will leave the reading. Of the holy scripture. Most holy.
[17:50] And gracious. God. We come before thee. On this. Thanksgiving day. We hope. Seeking. That our hearts.
[18:01] And minds. And our lips. And our ways. May be. Under the influence. Of spiritual things.
[18:13] And especially. Under the influence. Of the holy spirit. Of God. And we pray. That all that is done.
[18:24] This day. In word. And deed. May be. Indeed. To thy honor. And thy glory. That we may have. Thy blessing.
[18:34] Upon it. And thy presence. With us. In it. And feel. At the close. Of this memorable day. That it has. Been a day.
[18:45] Which the Lord. Hath blessed. We pray. That our hearts. May be prepared. Once more. As we.
[18:56] Seek. To engage. Ourselves. In spiritual. Things. In prayer. And praise. In meditation. We pray. We pray.
[19:08] That as the preparation. Of the heart. In man. Is of the Lord. So our hearts. May be. Sanctified. Cleansed.
[19:19] And enlivened. And guided. That we may. Really feel. To enter. Into a spiritual.
[19:30] Sphere. And feel. A spiritual. Influence. In our own hearts. Cleanse us. We pray thee. From all uncleanness.
[19:42] Of the flesh. And of the spirit. Sanctify us. With thy precious. Blood and word. Enlighten us.
[19:52] With the light. Of life. The light. Of thy glory. As it shines. In the face. Of Jesus Christ. And.
[20:05] Feed our souls. With the bread of life. This day. For the table. Of the gospel. Is spread still. With the bounties.
[20:17] Of heaven. We pray. That we may be nourished. With the words. Of truth. And of the good doctrine. Of the gospel.
[20:29] And feel refreshed. And strengthened. To go on our way. We pray. Oh Lord. That we may feel. Also.
[20:39] Especially today. The spirit of thanksgiving. Both for the blessings. Of the harvest. And for thy good providence.
[20:51] Still continued. Continued. To us. Year by year. Continually. Oh that men. Would praise. Thy name.
[21:02] For thy goodness. And for thy wonderful works. To the children of men. Thou dost still cause. The sun to shine.
[21:13] And the rain to fall. Thou dost still bless. The earth. And cause that which is sown in it. To spring forth. And bud.
[21:24] Thou dost bless. The springing thereof. Thou dost bring the harvests. To perfection. And we would be thankful. That. After the.
[21:37] Anxiety. That has been felt. With regard. To the ingathering. Of the harvest. Thou hast granted. At length. Such suitable weather.
[21:49] For the completion. Of the husbandry. In that way. And we would come before thee now. To give thanks to thee. As the God.
[22:00] That provideth. By this means. For every living thing. And we ourselves. Thereby. Have our daily bread.
[22:11] And for. Spiritual privileges. We still enjoy. They are lengthened out. To us. We have much.
[22:23] Cause we feel. To bless thee. For the gospel. The ministry of it. And the blessing of it. There does continue.
[22:33] This unto us. Still. Oh that it might. Make us more fruitful. That we might bring forth. Fruit to thy honor.
[22:43] And thy praise. Under thee. Spiritual privileges. And blessings. And this day. We come to this sanctuary.
[22:56] To join with thy servant. Here and his flock. In giving thanks to thee. For the blessing. That thou hast made him to be.
[23:07] Through these long years. In this sanctuary. Thou didst raise him up. Into the ministry of the gospel.
[23:18] Thou didst put thy word. Into his heart. And into his mouth. And thou didst bring him here. And how little could it have been.
[23:31] Known. And foreseen. What it would mean. To this church and people. That he should be brought to them. And thou hast maintained him.
[23:45] In their midst. Through the long years. Of his labor. And continued. To him. The supply. Of the spirit.
[23:56] Of Jesus Christ. So that. His flock. Have been fed. By his hand. With living bread. We would bless.
[24:07] Thy holy name. For this. We pray. O Lord. That still. The fruits of his labor. May be brought forth.
[24:18] That in years yet to come. It may be seen. That the Lord. Has indeed. Continued. His favor.
[24:29] And blessing. And. Many have been called. By thy grace. Through the word. Of the gospel. They have been brought. From darkness.
[24:40] To light. And from the kingdom. Of Satan. Unto God. They have obtained. The forgiveness. Of sins. And the inheritance. Of the saints.
[24:51] In light. Through the preached word. This is thy doing. It is marvelous. In our eyes. That it could be so. That souls.
[25:02] Could be quickened. Who are so dead. And be brought. To the saving knowledge. Of the truth. It is marvelous. In our eyes.
[25:14] And this work. Thou hast continually. Performed. What cause there is. We feel this day. To praise thy name.
[25:24] For thy goodness. And thy wonderful works. Of grace. Thou hast built up. This church. And people. In numbers.
[25:35] And in godliness. And now. We. Would desire. That we. With them. May offer to thee.
[25:46] The sacrifice. The sacrifice. Of praise. That is. The fruit of our lips. Giving thanks. To thy name. And we do pray.
[25:57] For thy servant. And his. Beloved wife. Remembering also. What a blessing. She has been made. To him.
[26:09] And. To this. People. And in the Sabbath school. Here. We pray. O Lord. That as thou hast given to him.
[26:19] Through the years. Such a help meet. For him. We pray that now. That some measure of weakness. Has come. That thou wilt comfort.
[26:32] And sustain them both. And may thy servant yet see. Fruit brought forth. In the matured.
[26:42] Age of his. Ministry. We commend. O Lord. With all affection. We commend. Thy servant.
[26:54] And his wife. And his family. His flock. And his people. To thee. The God of all grace. And mercy.
[27:05] And truth. And faithfulness. And wisdom. Lord bless them still. And. As we read in thy word.
[27:16] We feel it is applicable. We would pray. Subject to thy sovereign will. For to abide in the flesh. Would seem. To us.
[27:27] To be more needful. For this flock. We pray that thy servant. May yet for a season longer. Be spared to them.
[27:40] And we pray for the hills of Zion. Represented here this day. For affection. And regard.
[27:52] For thy servant. And for this people. As gathered them from all quarters. Today. Today. Lord bless them. And bless the churches.
[28:04] And congregations. From whence they have come. And do build up Zion again. Everywhere. We pray there may be.
[28:15] A fresh out. Flowing. Of the power. Of the Holy Spirit. We would be thankful. For the indwelling. Of the Holy Spirit.
[28:26] In every believer's heart. And we would be thankful. For the continuation. Of the Spirit. In the ministry. Of the gospel.
[28:37] We. Feel. Indeed. That thou hast not withdrawn. And never wilt withdraw. Thy Holy Spirit. But we pray. That there might be.
[28:48] An outflowing. Of the Holy Spirit. Apart. And as well as. His gracious indwelling. In our hearts.
[28:58] Who believe. And in the ministry. Amongst the churches. But we pray. There may be. An outflowing. Of the Holy Spirit. Another.
[29:09] In measure. Pentecostal. Blessing. In that way. And that. The word of the Lord. May go forth. Everywhere. With this ancient power.
[29:23] Unweakened. We know it can never be weakened. But with this ancient power. In a renewed. And present. Manifestation.
[29:34] And operation of it. O Lord. Grant this. We pray thee. If it could be. Consistent. With thy holy will. May our prayers.
[29:46] Prevail in this. And we pray. For thy servants. Present. With us today. Lord bless them. Help them continually.
[29:59] Be their sufficiency. Fill their earthen vessels. As often as they feel. To have emptied them in preaching. Fill them again. Fill them again.
[30:09] From the fullness. Of truth and grace. In Jesus Christ. Lord bless all thy servants. Everywhere. Make them able.
[30:23] Faithful. Fervent. Bless them. For the church's sake. We pray. We pray. O Lord. That thy servants.
[30:33] Who have stood long. And faithfully. Upon the walls of Zion. May be maintained to the end. We pray that their matured.
[30:44] And experienced ministry. May bring forth much fruit. And we pray for those. Who have more recently. Been brought forward.
[30:54] We pray their will. To establish them. And commend them. That they may be received. With thankfulness. That they may prove. To be the faithful ministers.
[31:07] Of the future generation. We pray for the children. Especially the families. Of thy people. For the children.
[31:18] Of many prayers. And much care. And anxiety. Lord bless them. May they. Receive. Receive.
[31:28] Into their hearts. The influence. That they are under. And the instruction. That they receive. In thy holy word.
[31:40] May they grow up. To walk. In the ways. Of godliness. And be found. To be numbered. With those. Whom thou hast appointed.
[31:51] To obtain. Salvation. Through our lord. Jesus Christ. In thy mercy. Remember all cases. Of affliction.
[32:03] And sorrow. Of bereavement. Of loneliness. Of life. Or of a special distress. Of mind. Through temptation.
[32:14] Or heaviness. O lord. O lord. Support them. Comfort them. Bring them through. Whatever may be the issue. We pray.
[32:25] They will bring them through. To praise. And honour. And glorify. Thy great name. For all that is past. Christ. We pray.
[32:36] O lord. Loyally. For our queen. And the royal family. For our government. And all in authority.
[32:48] For all who sustain. Responsibility. In the administration. Of our national. And judicial matters.
[32:58] We pray. That their will. Restrain. All that is evil. And that their will. Prosper. All that is right. For the good of the nation.
[33:10] And preserve us. We pray. The as a nation. From the evils. And dangers. That we perceive. To be with such subtlety.
[33:21] Encroaching upon us. O lord. Glorify thy name. May there rise. From our hearts. Today.
[33:32] True praise. Thanksgiving. To thee. For thou art. God over all. Blessed forevermore. Beyond all words.
[33:44] To express it. Beyond all thoughts. To comprehend it. Beyond all feelings. To realize it. We believe thou art.
[33:56] Infinitely blessed. O forever. Blessed be thy name. In our hearts. And from them. And do help one.
[34:08] Today. We pray thou art help. Thy servant. The pastor. Through this day. Grant. O lord. That. Nothing.
[34:19] May in any. Wise. Prevail. To. Cause. Weakness. To him. To him. Or any. After weakness. After the strain.
[34:29] Of the day. We pray. He may be favored. To feel quietness. And peace. And stillness. And stillness. In his spirit.
[34:39] In his spirit. And do help. One who is to speak. In his difficult. And responsible. Duty today. And who is sufficient.
[34:50] For these things. Hear us. Gracious God. In our. Confessions. And our prayers. And our thanksgiving.
[35:02] And our praise. Through Jesus Christ. And for his namesake. Amen. Amen. The second hymn.
[35:19] In the afternoon service. The tune is Gilmarah 856. The Lord's night shepherd. I am not one.
[35:30] He makes me down to lie. In pastures green. He leadeth me. The quiet waters. Die. The Lord's night shepherd.
[35:54] The Lord's night shepherd. Thy ship. He tekáng hönong Thank you.
[36:55] Thank you.
[37:25] Thank you. Thank you.
[38:25] Thank you. Thank you.
[39:25] Thank you. Thank you. Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
[39:42] The epistle to the Colossians, the third chapter, the seventeenth verse. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
[40:08] Thank you. Thank you. This word is quite in accordance with the feelings expressed by the pastor as the service commenced this afternoon.
[40:21] Feelings which I'm assured express all of our desires as we gather together on this special Thanksgiving day.
[40:34] And so I feel this word blends in with that. I hope it is a keynote to all that will be done today, both in word, in all that may be said, and in deed, in all that may be presently done.
[40:53] That all may be done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And that thanksgiving to God by him may rise acceptably from our hearts and from our midst this day.
[41:12] And then God will indeed be honored and glorified thereby. I hope the friends will bear with me.
[41:25] I approach this service with very much trepidation of spirit. I feel so unequal to an occasion like this. And I haven't ability to rise in any way above my usual level such as it is for a special occasion.
[41:45] And the very attempt to be special on such an occasion usually means bondage and disappointment.
[41:58] Now my brethren, you must take me as I am. And if I'm able to say anything that may raise from your hearts a tribute to the Lord's honor and glory, that's all I desire.
[42:12] I haven't formed my mind to preach anything special in the way of a sermon. But only to speak in a plain and simple way along the lines of my text.
[42:26] Whatsoever ye do, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus. The text, as you see, is in the nature of an admonition.
[42:41] A general admonition. It doesn't refer to any one specific matter of word or deed.
[42:51] For everything that you do, whatsoever it is. In whatsoever way it may be done. And on whatsoever occasion, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.
[43:07] This chapter is really full of admonitions. Spiritual admonitions. Spiritual admonitions. Relative admonitions. Social admonitions.
[43:22] Admonitions bearing upon almost every feature of our lives. And there's not one of them that can be acceptably and rightly fulfilled, except as we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus.
[43:41] To fulfill any admonition in the scripture is not just simply a matter of doing what that admonition directs us to do.
[43:52] It's not so simple as that. The motive in which it's done enters into it. The spirit with which it's done enters into it. And the objective for which it's done enters into it.
[44:06] It's too superficial a way to take it. That so long as we do what the word exhorts us to do, that fulfills the admonition.
[44:18] It does not. We need to do it in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Well, as I may be able, I will take this text in two ways.
[44:35] First, by way of exposition. I'll try and set before you what it really means. And then secondly, by way of application.
[44:47] I mean, application to the occasion today. Spiritual application of the word with power and grace to our hearts, of course, that we cannot command.
[45:04] That depends entirely upon the Holy Spirit. But I will endeavor to give this word an application to the occasion today.
[45:17] And it is a very suitable word for the day. This is the Thanksgiving day. We, of course, to enter into the Lord's gates with praise and into his courts with thankfulness.
[45:32] To be thankful unto him and to bless his name. There is a two-fold feature of our Thanksgiving today.
[45:44] There is what I may call the providential feature of it or side of it. There is Thanksgiving for the harvests of the earth and the goodness of God therein.
[45:57] And his goodness generally towards the sons of men. Oh, that men would praise the Lord for his goodness. And for his wonderful works to the children of men.
[46:12] It implies that there is such a backwardness to do this. Oh, that men would. Because they do not. They do not regard the operation of his hands as they should.
[46:25] In regard of giving thanksgiving and praise to him. Well, we must be mindful of that. The other feature of our thanksgiving today is more especially for the ministry here.
[46:41] As all the friends know, this day is a remarkable occasion in the history of this church and people. Never before has a pastor been maintained so long to this church.
[46:58] And I feel I may say, without making any improper comparisons, which one wouldn't for a moment do. But I think it may be soberly said, never before has a pastor been a means of such blessing.
[47:15] Never has this cause been prospered and increased and built up to the honor and glory of God. As it has been during the 50 years of the ministry of our beloved brother.
[47:32] This is a cause of thanksgiving indeed. And because the occasion has that special feature, that no doubt does predominate in our feelings today.
[47:50] We must not let it eliminate the other causes of thanksgiving, lest we dishonor the Lord in that. In whatsoever ye do then, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
[48:09] It all blends in the text. Whether for providential blessings, whether for the harvests of the earth, whether for the ministry of the gospel, and the blessing of the Lord upon it here, it all enters into the text.
[48:28] Give thanks unto God by Jesus Christ. Now, to look into this a little. We must consider, I think, two things.
[48:43] First, the name of the Lord Jesus himself. And then secondly, what it is to do, whatsoever we do, in word or deed, in his name.
[49:02] The name of the Lord Jesus. What a blessed name that is. How full it is of grace and truth and love and mercy and compassion and blessing.
[49:20] It is indeed a name that is as ointment poured forth. Because of the savor, the church said of old, in the psalm of Solomon, Because of the savor of thy good ointments, thy name is as ointment poured forth.
[49:41] That is, all the savor of the good ointments, the spiritual virtues and graces of Jesus Christ.
[49:53] They are all his good ointments. And they are all expressed in his name. And because of the savor of those good ointments, his name is as ointment poured forth.
[50:09] Therefore do the virgins love thee. Oh, it is blessed, it is sweet, when those good ointments are poured forth in the name of Jesus Christ.
[50:21] When it is somewhat as when one took the alabaster box of ointment and broke it upon his head.
[50:33] And the odor of the ointment filled the house. Permeated it. Every part of the house betook of the savor of that ointment.
[50:46] Oh, it is sweet, when the name of Jesus sends forth its sweet savor. And our hearts and our assemblies all are savored with that sweetness.
[51:03] Oh, that it might be so today. And that the name of Jesus might send forth the sweet savor of his good ointments.
[51:13] That our hearts and this sanctuary might be filled with it. It is a wonderful name. But what do we understand by the name of the Lord Jesus?
[51:29] Well, we must understand, of course, in the first place, his person. It is the name of a person.
[51:41] Not an impersonal name, but a personal one. All that the name of the Lord Jesus means, and all the sweetness and savor that it imparts, flows from a person.
[51:57] I know that you will all agree with that. But I will ask the question, does the person of Jesus Christ have the place in our faith, and hope, and love, and worship, that it should have?
[52:16] I rather question it. Because, my friends, the person of Christ is the very center of all gospel truth, and the source of all gospel blessing.
[52:34] Impersonal theology is barren. No matter how sound it may be as regards that, nor scriptural. But if it's impersonal, it's very barren.
[52:48] Jesus Christ is, if I make so say, he is the very body of divinity himself. He is the best body of divinity. He is very person.
[53:00] And what a wonderful person he is. And, if only, we were favored to have clearer spiritual discernment, we should see more what a wonderful person he is.
[53:20] For, we should more, his blessings praise, did we his person learn to love. He is Emmanuel.
[53:34] It was said concerning him, By the angel, They shall call his name Emmanuel, Which being interpreted is God with us.
[53:47] That is, God with us in our very nature. Not God with us in the sense of being among us merely, But with us in the sense of being partaker of our very nature.
[54:01] Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Beautifully, Instructively, And unmistakably, The Apostle John opens his gospel With the person of Christ.
[54:18] He was in the beginning with God, And he was God. And the same was in the beginning with God, And all things were made by him.
[54:32] Him mind is a person, And without him, Was not anything made, That was made. You have a person, All things were made by him, You have his divinity, He was God, You have his separate personality, He was with God.
[54:55] There is no mistake about this. Although the mystery is very great, The mystery of the personality of Jesus Christ as a Son of God, As distinct from the Father, Yet divine, One God with the Father, Is very great.
[55:16] But it is expressed very clearly, The mystery is great, But not the expression mysterious, It expresses it quite plainly. Jesus Christ, The Son of God, Eternal in his divinity, And he became one with us, In the great mystery of godliness, He was Emmanuel, God with us, Very God, Of very God, All that God was, He was, And he became all that we are in our nature, They shall call his name Emmanuel, Which being interpreted is God with us, And that is the great mystery, From which all other gospel mysteries flow, That is a central mystery, It is to be believed, It is to be believed,
[56:17] Thankfully, Submissively, Believed, Jesus Christ, Is a name, The name, Of the only begotten of the Father, Full of grace, And truth, And further, The name, Of the Lord Jesus, Implies, His saving work, He is the Lord, Jesus, We all know that, That name, Means, Saviour, It implies, His salvation, Thou shalt call, His name, Jesus, For he shall save his people, From their sins, Right worthily, He bears that name, Of Jesus, For all the conditions, Of salvation, Have been fulfilled,
[57:17] By him, He has fulfilled the law, And he has wrought out a righteousness, To save us, And he has offered himself, A sacrifice to God, Of a sweet smelling, Saviour, Saviour, To save us, And because, Without the shedding of blood, There is no remission, He has shed, His most precious blood, To save us, What a blessed name, He wears, Jesus, The Saviour, And what is more, All the fullness, Of salvation, Is in Jesus Christ, And therefore, In his name, I mean, All the fullness, Of love, O Christ, Thou art the fountain, The deep, Sweet well,
[58:18] Of love, For salvation, Is full of love, Full of love, It originated in love, It reveals love, For God commendeth, His love toward us, In that, While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, And it conveys love, And as it is felt, In the application of it, By the Holy Spirit, It produces love, Salvation, Is a salvation, Of love, And that love, Is in Jesus Christ, In all the fullness, Of it, And his name, Is the expression, Of it, All the fullness, Of grace, To save, Unto the uttermost, Is in Jesus Christ, The grace, Of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Was exceeding, Abundant,
[59:19] With faith, And love, Exceeding, Abundant, Abounding, Over all, Sin, In its, Depth, Its awful depth, Of guilt, And its awful height, Of rebellion, And its awful extent, Of evil, That the grace, Of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Abounds, It is higher, It is deeper, It is broader, Than sin's, Awful extent, And it exceedingly, Abounds, I've often, Observed, And often remarked, Upon it, How the apostle, In the warmth, Of his heart, In setting forth, The exceeding, Fulness, And depth, And degree, Of the grace, And love, Of Jesus Christ, Puts word, Upon word, To express, What is really, Inexpressible, He speaks, Not only, Of grace,
[60:19] Which is a wonderful, Word, Understood, And felt, But abundant grace, Abounding, Overflowing, Every bound, Set abound, To the grace of God, It will overflow it, And then, As though, That did not express it, He adds, Exceeding, Abundant, Well now, This exceeding, Abundance of grace, In salvation, Is in Jesus Christ, That fills his name, That makes his name, To be so sweet, To be so savoury, Because grace is a savoury blessing, And love, And there is in Jesus, An exceeding fullness, Of saving power, He is mighty, He is mighty, To save, Oh my brethren, He is mighty, To save, Almighty, Sin is powerful, There is a dreadful power,
[61:21] In sin, But he is mighty, To save, Who is this, That cometh from Edom, With dyed garments, From Bosra, Travelling, Who is this, That is wonderful, In his apparel, Travelling, In the greatness, Of his strength, I that speak, In righteousness, Mighty to save, For he who is mighty, To save, Speaks in righteousness, When he says, Come unto me, And I will in no wise, Cast you out, He speaks in righteousness, And he who speaks, In righteousness, Is mighty to save, The name of Jesus, Means all this, Means, His wonderful person, And his great salvation, And all that there is in it, And, Of course, All the blessings of salvation, Flow from him,
[62:24] Forgiveness, Through this man, Is preached unto you, The forgiveness of sins, And by him, All that believe, Are justified, From all things, From which they could not, Be justified, By the law, Of Moses, Peace, My peace, I give unto you, Not as the world giveth, Give I unto you, Let not your heart, Be troubled, Neither let it be afraid, Reconciliation with God, Ye who sometimes, Were far off, Are made nigh, By the blood, Of Christ, And hope, Christ in you, The hope of eternal, Glory, So that this name, Is really very rich, It is the name of a person, The son of God, And it's the name, Of a saviour,
[63:24] And then again, By the name, Of the Lord Jesus, We must understand, His exalted, And glorified state, In heaven, He is the Lord, Jesus, The Lord, That name has been given to him, That was a beautiful scripture, We read, Wherefore God also, Hath highly exalted him, And given him a name, Which is above every name, That at the name of Jesus, Every knee should bow, And every tongue confess, That he is Lord, To the glory of God, The Father, Very blessed it is, If our knees are brought, To bow, In gracious submission, To him, And say, Reign all me as king, And accomplish thy will,
[64:27] And if our lips are open, To confess him, As Lord, But the lips that will not, Confess him as Lord, In a way of grace, Will have to, In the day of judgment, And the knee that will not, Bend, Will break, The apostle John, In the revelation, Saw that name, That was above every name, And, He hath on his vesture, And on his tie, A name written, King of kings, And lord of lords, And, That vesture, That John saw, Was dipped in blood, And he hath on, A vesture, Dipped in blood, And on his vesture, And on his tie, Was this, Name written, King of kings, And lord of lords, Why on his vesture,
[65:29] His vesture, Means his glory, It's a symbolic term, His vesture, Means that glory, And majesty, With which he is vested, In heaven, By God the father, And his tie, Why on his tie, Because his tie, Means his power, His vesture, Means his glory, His tie, His power, For all power, Is given unto him, In heaven, And in earth, And he hath on a vesture, Dipped in blood, And on his vesture, That name was written, And why that vesture, Dipped in blood, Because his glory, Rises out of calvary, Because his honor, Rises from his cross, Because that majesty, With which he is invested,
[66:30] In heaven, Is a majesty of one, Who bore sin's, Tremendous guilt, And shame, On his glory, That rose out of his, Suffering and agony, And blood, He hath a name written, King of kings, And lord of lords, Well, I must leave this first point, Whatsoever ye do, In word or deed, Do all in that, That blessed name, That sacred, Sweet, Solemn, Powerful, Loving, Gracious, Name, Do all in his name, Now secondly, This afternoon, And this is as far as I should attempt, To carry the matter, We must attend to the admonition, Whatsoever ye do,
[67:33] Do all, In the name, Of the Lord Jesus, It implies several considerations, For one thing, Of course, It necessarily means, Do all, As believing in his name, And do all, In love to his name, For, How can we do, Anything, In his name, Unless there is, In our doing it, The spirit of faith, In Jesus Christ, Faith in Jesus Christ, Has many, Exercises, Shall I say, In our, Hearts, Of course, The first exercise, Of faith in his name, Is to believe in him, To salvation, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, And thou shalt, Be saved, That is the first exercise,
[68:33] Of faith, In his name, Look unto him, And be lightened, But there are others, And this is one, And that is to do, What we do, In word or deed, In the exercise, Of that faith, For without faith, It's impossible, To please God, Whatever we do, And without faith, It's impossible, To honor, And glorify, Jesus Christ, How can we plead his name, In prayer, Unless we believe it, How can we offer our praise, And thanksgiving in his name, Unless we believe in his name, How can we obey, And do his will, Unless we believe, In him, Whose will we do, It's a very great thing, Really, To believe in the name, Of the Lord Jesus Christ,
[69:34] In that way, In which, Whatever we do, Has that spirit, An exercise, Of faith, In it, And so, Of love, We can do nothing, In his name, Unless we do it, In love, To his name, And in it, Just as the, Sacrifice, Of Jesus Christ, Had a sweet, Smelling savor, Because of love, Love, And holiness, Was a sweet, Smelling savor, In that sacrifice, That he offered, So, There's a sweet, Smelling savor, Of love, In whatever we do, In his name, If we do it, In love, How the Lord Jesus himself, Laid this principle down, If ye love me, Keep my commandments, If ye love me, For, As I've sometimes quoted,
[70:37] A good writer, That that, Is no true love, To Jesus Christ, That doesn't, Produce obedience, To his name, And that is no true obedience, That is not produced, By love, Without doing it, In his name, When it's done, In the spirit, Of love, To him, We do, Whatsoever we do, In his name, When we do it, In his spirit, I cannot conceive, That that can be, Really said, To be done, In his name, That is done, Otherwise, Than in, In his spirit, By his spirit, I mean, Not only, Although, This enters into it, The Holy Spirit of God, But I mean that spirit, The apostle, Paul set before the, Philippians,
[71:38] And the Holy Spirit, Sets before us, In that word, Even today, When he would, Direct them, To those, Paths of truth, And grace, He desired, That they should walk in, He sets this, Before them, Let this mind, Be in you, Which was in Christ, Jesus, That's what I mean by, His spirit, His mind, The spirit, Of his mind, Now what was the spirit, Of his mind, The spirit, His mind was, Preeminently, The spirit of humility, Not exclusively, But when the apostle, Would set forth, The spirit, Of the mind, Of Jesus Christ, He falls to that, As being, Perhaps the most, Eminent, And impressive feature, Of the spirit, Of his mind, He humbled himself,
[72:41] And became obedient, Unto death, Even the death, Of the cross, And there was, His submission, He was so submissive, There was his devotion, I do always those things, That please him, There was his compassion, And tenderness, In all that he did, Brethren, We can do nothing, In word or deed, In the name, Of the Lord Jesus, Unless we do it, In that spirit, Of his, Whatever is done, In our own spirit, Cannot be said, To be done, In his name, Even though, We may put his name, To it, If we do that, We put his name, Where it doesn't belong, We put his name, Where it doesn't belong, If we put his name, To anything, That we do not, In his spirit, We put his name,
[73:41] Where it doesn't belong, His name, Only belongs, To that, Which is, In agreement, With his own, Blessed spirit, And his spirit, Was a spirit, Of humility, Lowliness of mind, Gracious admission, Sweet tenderness, Now, Whatever we do, In word or deed, If we do it, In his spirit, Then we do it, In his name, And then, There is another thing, Whatsoever ye do, In word or deed, Do all in the name, Of the Lord Jesus, That is, Do all according, To his word, And his will, Now, It is not left, To anyone, At any time, Whoever they may be, Or any body of men, Whatever that body of men, May be, It doesn't pertain to them,
[74:42] To establish anything, And then say, Now we will do this, In the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, Because, If it hasn't, His word for it, If it isn't his appointment, If it isn't his command, Then, Although it might be said, To be done in his name, He would have an answer, To that, Who hath required this, At your hands, Who hath required this, At your hands, See, It's not left to anyone, To establish, What they will do, And then say, They will do it, In his name, As it is sanction, Is it according, To his will, How much enters into this, Take the question, Of, Gospel appointments, The Lord has appointed, Certain appointments, And ordinances,
[75:43] In the gospel, They are to be, Observed in his name, Chiefly, Baptism, Of believers, And the word of God, Sanctions no other, And the appointment, Of the Lord's supper, To commemorate, His love, And his death, But men, Have established, Other appointments, And put the Lord's name, To them, He will not have it so, Who hath required this, At your hands, Who hath required this, At your hands, So you see, My friends, What do ever we do, In the name of the Lord, Jesus, We must do it, As believing, In his name, And in love, To his name, And we must do it, With his spirit, With his spirit, Of humility, And submission, And tenderness,
[76:45] And we must do it, According, To his word, And his appointment, Now, I wonder, If anyone is feeling, This consideration, To act on their, Heart, Is there any matter, That's before your mind, Exercising, Uh, Your thought, Now, Can you do it, As believing in his name, Can you do it, As feeling, That love, To him, That you wouldn't, Desire to feel, I lay down, No measure for this, Who can measure, Uh, How much love, We ought to feel, Before we can do anything, In his name, We would all feel, More love than we do, With many of us, Well, Quite frankly, My greatest trouble, Often, Is that I can't love, Jesus Christ, As I want to, That really is, My greatest burden,
[77:46] Often, Oh, If I could only love, Jesus Christ, More, But still, I feel I do love, His sweet, And precious name, Well now, If you can do that, Which he has appointed, Believing in him, And in love, To his dear name, Now you will glorify him, If you do that, If you do that, You will glorify him, And though it may seem to you, A comparatively, Little matter, And you may feel to be, A very insignificant, One, To do it, But that's how you look, At the matter, Out of the mouth, Even of babes, And sucklings, He hath perfected praise, Brethren, The Lord grant that this day, Whatever we do, In word, Me in my preaching, And in my prayers,
[78:46] You, In your praises, And in your hearing, And receiving, Of the word, Let it be all done, In the name, Of that blessed person, That gracious, Saviour, That glorious, Heil, And let there be in it, A spirit of thanksgiving, Giving thanks to God, And the Father, By him, And there I must leave the subject, This afternoon, We now sing, The 13th of the afternoon service, To the children, 819, Ye children of Zion, And children of God, Whose spirits are filled, With dismay, Since you have eternal redemption,
[79:49] Through blood, You cannot but follow on your way, Thank you. Ye fill, With the light, And the light, Who Wheel, Ye BAIN, The Athletic High School, Simmonsを呈 goods, He will karimán, If dismay, Atme o's bit of theρώp, To the home of the Jesucarland, If dismay, Thank you.
