[0:00] As the Lord may be pleased to help me, I would direct you to Genesis chapter 42 and the last clause in verse 36. Genesis chapter 42 and the last clause in verse 36. All these things are against me. Genesis chapter 42 and the last clause in verse 36. All these things are against me. Friends, how often we come there in the pathway that Jacob came in. He came into that spot and place where he declared that all things were against him. And that's how it seemed. That's how it looked. They were against him. It certainly was against his flesh. He wasn't submissive when he said that. And how often, friends, we are found in the same spirit. We're not submissive to walk in the pathway that God has appointed for us.

[2:05] We imagine all sorts of things. We are tempted by the adversary. We question the reality of our religion. We seem to lose sight that God is reigning, that he controls everything in our pathway. We are in the Lord's hand. We are in the Lord's hand. We are in the Lord's heart. We are in the Lord's hand. We are in the Lord's hand. We are in the Lord's hand, and that he knows that God will make us in the Lord's hand. We are in the Lord's hand. We believe I mentioned in prayer that Jacob was one of the Lord's hand. We are in the Lord's hand.

[3:13] I believe I mention in prayer that Jacob was one of the Lords. Jacob have I loved.

[3:26] Esau have I hated. How so? Nothing can alter it. All to be found amongst those whom the Lord loves.

[3:49] But we have to prove this friends. That those whom the Lord loves are no different to anyone else.

[4:01] They are no different to anyone in the world. They are rebellious. They have hard thoughts of God. They kick.

[4:14] They repine. They have to prove that if ever their soul will be saved it must be Christ.

[4:25] That must be the way. That he only can save them. He only can deliver them. They have a sinful heart.

[4:39] They have rebellious hearts. And I believe it's in every one of us in some measure. There are times when perhaps some think they are not rebellious.

[4:59] that they are, that they will not kick and rebel against the Lord whom they profess to serve.

[5:12] But perhaps they haven't come into deep pathways of trials, troubles, tribulations. Perhaps the enemy hasn't assaulted them.

[5:25] Perhaps they haven't grievously fallen in the pathway of sin, personally, or one or another near and dear.

[5:42] But when they do come into these very experiences, then it's a different thing.

[5:55] Then they have to begin to prove what is in their own heart. Why me? Why me? Why me, Lord? Why me? Why me, Lord?

[6:06] Why dost thou permit the enemy to go to such lengths? The heart is not submissive.

[6:25] These things are in the Lord's hands. Nothing can alter them. Nothing. They've had to take place. They are taking place.

[6:38] In your pathway, in your lives and mine. And there will be those that will have great cause to remember this year, 1990.

[6:53] Some of you may look back to a year in the past.

[7:04] You'll never forget it. And perhaps a number of years scattered over the past. You've had to walk in some deep things.

[7:18] Some painful paths. You were assaulted by the enemy. The devil himself.

[7:30] And perhaps the world. You don't forget those years. You don't forget all that took place.

[7:46] Ah, friends. How do we look back? Well, I believe we have to remember in those paths that in some of the things and at some time in those things we were rebellious.

[8:17] We refused in our own heart to obey the Lord. Because our flesh was hurt.

[8:33] Because our flesh was hurt. Because we were humiliated by the enemy. We may even have been humiliated by those that profess to serve God.

[8:55] And in whom we may well trust that they are God's people. But, friends.

[9:08] But, friends. Satan doesn't care who he uses. And he knows that when he uses a child of God to resist a child of God, that hurts more than anything.

[9:35] The Lord's children have to prove this. That they have to prove that they have no might, no power, no wisdom, no understanding.

[10:00] They can't understand the crooked things. If the Lord is with them and leading them in that pathway, they cannot understand why there is so much opposition and stumbling blocks cast in the way.

[10:18] But the Lord says, this is the way walking in it. I will be with you through the fires, through the floods.

[10:34] Have you proved it? Can you go back over the years? Can you prove it? Are you proving it at this very time?

[10:46] The fires and the floods. He said he'll be with you. Oh, you say, I'm more interested in deliverance.

[11:02] I want to come out of it. That's the flesh. That's our flesh. We don't like pain.

[11:13] We don't like suffering. We don't like carrying burdens. But I say again, friends, our times are in his hands.

[11:26] We must go through the fires and the floods. There will be the trials and the tribulations.

[11:38] There is an appointed time when it will take place.

[11:49] And the length of time that we pass through these things is in God's hand. And we shall not have one day less or one day more than what he has appointed for us.

[12:04] You may feel that you're weary.

[12:15] Weary. Weary. Because things, perhaps, are dragging on and on and on.

[12:25] And you can see no way of escape, no way of deliverance. But rather does things begin to look blacker and more impassable.

[12:38] Don't be surprised, friends, if that's what you find. Before one is delivered and brought to the light, there is darkness.

[12:57] And often the darkest moment, the darkest time is before things begin to turn.

[13:11] Before the Lord begins to turn things, move things, make things work together for good.

[13:22] It looks at times if it's utterly impossible that things can be working together for good. But you wait. You watch.

[13:34] And I believe as you go along, the Lord will show you. And you'll be able to look back and see the wonder-working hand of God.

[13:45] And the very things that were against you and that looked to be so impossible and so contrary and so bewildering.

[13:58] They're the very things the Lord was behind them. He was using them. But the old flesh, when it's passing through these things, often utters, all these things are against me.

[14:21] They're not what I wanted. I didn't want to walk in these things. And friends, we have hard things, hard thoughts about our God.

[14:37] Jacob was no exception. He was thinking hard of his God. All these things are against me. This is what Jacob said.

[14:48] He had walked in some painful pathways. He was a child of God.

[15:02] But he had sinned against his God. And friends, we're no exception.

[15:14] If we're a child of God, then we have to admit, we have sinned against him. And sooner or later, the law deals with sin.

[15:29] We have to be brought to repentance. Because without repentance, there's no remission. You say, well, what about Jacob?

[15:45] Yes, Jacob. Jacob was guilty. Jacob had an idol. And his idol was his own son. The youngest son of his family at that time was Joseph.

[16:00] And he was Jacob's idol. And the Lord began to walk. And the Lord began to walk.

[16:15] He caused Joseph to dream those dreams. It had an effect upon him. They weren't ordinary dreams.

[16:26] God was behind them. God was in them. God was revealing to Joseph his future. God was revealing to Jacob and his sons, his family, all that was going to take place in the future.

[16:50] God was so evil. And they saw that she gave up. They saw that she gave up and to Joseph and the Lord. And they saw it in some measure. And they resented it.

[17:03] Because they said to Joseph, to Joseph you think we're going to come and bow down before you but you see they did they had to the day come now these things were revealed in some measure Joseph was a child of God he was only 17 years old when he had these dreams and the Lord began to bring them to pass look at the things he had to pass through his father loved him he would have experienced much love from his parents his father but he had to be wrenched away from it all you say well it wasn't his sin it was his father ah friends the Lord was dealing with them both

[18:34] Jacob must lose his idol Joseph must walk in the pathway that God has appointed for him he's got to be prepared and brought brought to the land of Egypt and made governor there and so the Lord begins the work he's wrenched away from his family he's cast down the well he's drawn up he's sold as a slave he's taken away he's passed on he's brought into various places places where he had to serve then he was falsely accused by a woman cast into prison for it what does the flesh say well surely the Lord will deliver me

[20:04] I'm not guilty he knows I'm not guilty our mouth is shut sometimes it's speechless the Lord doesn't deliver us we have to go into the prison Joseph had to go into the prison and he had to remain there for two years for something he didn't do but the Lord was with him though the word of the Lord tried him don't lose sight of that Joseph didn't have the blessed presence of the Lord all the time he prospered in the eyes of his captors but friends the word of the Lord tried him and so with Jacob his Joseph was taken away there was false evidence given to him his coat of many colours was dipped in blood and presented to him is this thy son's coat or not yes he said it's my son without doubt he is dead he is rent in pieces false evidence all the sorrow the sorrow the dear man passed through and it wasn't true he hadn't been rent in pieces he was still alive but he thought he was dead but the Lord permitted that all to take place he permitted

[22:36] Jacob to suffer over those years 13 years of sorrow and then the Lord is about to bring Joseph back into his life but before he did it there were some darker paths to walk in there was the famine they had to go to Egypt to buy food by that time Joseph was delivered out of the hands of men he was he had been raised up to the governor in the land of

[23:47] Egypt he had been absent from his brethren for 13 years he had now grown up he was mature he'd passed through many many things so much so they didn't recognize him they didn't know him they didn't know his voice they didn't know him in appearance they didn't know him in dress they couldn't understand the mannerism of him but friends they were pricked in their hearts by the treatment from

[24:52] Joseph Joseph didn't speak to them in his own language in their language he used an interpreter it wasn't the time that he should be revealed to them yet so he spake through an interpreter they didn't know that he was their brother they didn't think he could understand what they were saying one to another they were pricked in their hearts because of the past because of what they have done you see how it all comes together how it dovetails together we are verily guilty concerning our brother in the past and yet this is he this was it their brother they were talking to and they didn't know it but the

[25:59] Lord was working in their spirits and Joseph questions them he finds out he's got another brother he's never seen a younger brother he demands that that younger brother shall come back next time with them and as you know we read one of the brethren had to stay behind Simeon had to remain in the prison the others the call the time came when they were running short again

[27:07] Jacob said you must go back we want some more food they said no we can't go back without our brother Benjamin the man will not hear us the man will not give us any can you not hear Jacob saying all these things are against me they're against me I've lost my Joseph now they want to take Benjamin I shall lose him I can't stand him I don't want it I don't want it to be this way I'm not going to let him go I'm not going to lose him but Jacob you've got to let him go or you're going to get no food you see he was forced all these things are against me that's what he thought that's how it appeared to him and isn't that just what you and

[28:24] I think at times and isn't it just how it appears to us that these things are against us we're condemned perhaps condemned by the world perhaps condemned by the people of God can't understand why God permits this and that to take place can't understand perhaps why the Lord permits various ones to trouble us all these things are against me where is my God in these things why doesn't he deliver me all these things are against me you see friends you and I know the end of this case regarding

[29:37] Jacob and Joseph we know the end but remember this that they had to walk through it and they didn't know the end as they were working through it and you and I are walking in paths today and we don't know the end and it may be it looks very black very dark but I will say this if we are a child of God all things will work together for good to them that love God now you might say but I don't love God I can't love God because of this trial because of this burden because of this pain this trouble then you're honest because we cannot always love

[30:45] God there are times when we rebelle us and we kick against him but friends can you look back to some spot and place in your life where you can honestly say with all your heart that you loved God then you'll prove this that all things work together for good to them that love God Jacob proved it he loved God you see Jacob and how you find this you watch you see how things follow often in a family from son from father to son father to daughter or mother to daughter mother to son look at

[31:56] Jacob Jacob had to flee from his family because he'd been a deceiver he was cast down he had to go away what did he prove he had to prove many things he had to suffer many things but friends look at that first night out in the wilds with no bed nowhere to lie no shelter there he laid took a stone for his pillar there he dreamed God was there you say well it would have served him right if God had forsaken him because of his deceit but the Lord didn't forsake him the

[32:58] Lord loved him he didn't love his sin but he loved Jacob and he dealt with Jacob Jacob had to learn many things and then later in life different circumstances true Joseph has to leave his family ah friends how we have to see these things how we have to walk them out well the Lord knows friends I see the time has gone the Lord knows the pathway that you and I walk in and friends

[34:01] God has appointed him whatever you and I may say about it whatever hard thoughts we may say and with Jacob all these things are against me they are against our flesh darkness but friends if the Lord is in it if we are one of his he is in it and it will work together for good it will be made profitable to our souls and I believe we shall prove this that the darkness will be made light but it will be in his own time and his own way friends I know that we have need we have need of patience may the Lord grant it to us in his name we say amen in the first century the sovereign ruler of the skies ever gracious ever wise all my time you're in thy hand holy blessed God's mass number 64 hours or
