With last hymn 283 "Tis a point I long to know" Tune Ellingham 462. No other details on tape box.
[0:00] As the Lord shall be pleased to help me, I shall call your attention to a subject you will find in Psalm 51 and the 10th verse.
[0:18] Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
[0:34] Psalm 51 and the 10th verse. One thing is very encouraging to me in announcing this subject, and that is, I believe many of you in listening to the announcement of it can find an Amen in your heart to it as a petition.
[0:59] Maybe you have often used the wording to express what you feel in your approaches to God when out of the abundance of the heart the mouth is speaking.
[1:18] The opening word is very suggestive. I have thought on it many, many times. Create. And that means that you must have to do with God to obtain the answer to the petition which welled up in the Psalmist press so long ago.
[1:44] Create. God alone can create. Man can manufacture, but he must have what God has created whereby he can manufacture.
[1:59] But man cannot create. To create means to make something out of nothing. And man is utterly unable to do that.
[2:14] And so, the Psalmist uses just the word that fitted in with his soul's feelings.
[2:25] Knowing, according to how he felt at that time, and he was in a very sorrowful state of mind, with a load of guilt on his conscience, and he knew vain is the help of man.
[2:42] And you know it, many of you, by divine teaching. No help in self I find.
[2:53] Although I've sought it well. The native treasure of my mind is sin and death and hell. Therefore, a man can receive nothing except it be given him from heaven.
[3:12] Oh, how glad you would be if God would be pleased to answer this petition in your soul's experience this Sabbath morn. Let us look at it as grace is given from one or two viewpoints of it.
[3:32] Create in me a clean heart, O God. And renew a right spirit within me.
[3:42] In approaching this subject, I would make it plain that the Psalmist already possessed it. When this petition ascended to God from it.
[3:59] It was godly fear. And the word of God tells us the fear of the Lord is clean. Godly fear was active in the Psalmist's breast.
[4:12] And he realized in his approaches to God. And being oh so guilty as he was. Such a transgressor.
[4:24] And his iniquities were heavy upon him. He realized that he could only say before God.
[4:36] Like the leper of old. Unclean, unclean. But that can only be said as a man possesses a heart that God has given him.
[4:49] Whereby, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth can speak. And now, the word of God.
[5:00] And that is what we have to look into as the pattern. The sower soweth the word. The word of God tells us.
[5:13] And every man ordained of God to preach is enjoined to preach the word. And now, it may be. I leave it between God and you to search it out.
[5:26] It may be, I say, that you have observed in the word of God. Some of the descriptions which the Holy Spirit has recorded to describe our heart.
[5:42] As we are born. And some of the language is very striking.
[5:54] You find the heart is referred to as a cage of unclean birds. A habitation of dragons. And in Isaiah, you have a description that many of us have realized all too painfully.
[6:18] It is indeed the truth regarding our own heart. And Isaiah says here that the whole heart is sick from the sole of the foot even to the head.
[6:41] There is no soundness in it. Wounds and bruises and putrefying sores. You have to weigh these things up as you journey on through life.
[6:55] You may not feel so deep down such an experience in the early dealings of God with you. But step by step as you go on, you will understand what Solomon meant when he said in that wonderful prayer at the temple dedication, Which shall know, every man, the plague of his own heart.
[7:25] You do not know it all at once. So that even in life's evening time, You get further openings up of what your heart is like.
[7:38] The heart you brought into the world with you when you were born. And now says Jeremiah, The heart is deceitful above all things.
[7:53] Do listen. It is your heart, the preacher's heart, And desperately wicked. Who can know it? Margin reading.
[8:04] Look round the world and see how true this word is. Desperately sick. I the Lord search the heart.
[8:16] I try the reins. Even to give every man according to his ways. And according to the fruit of his doings.
[8:27] And now, When a sinner Is born again, And oh what a great mercy that is.
[8:39] The longer I live, The bigger mercy I see it to be. And if you and I are born again, We shall need eternity to thank God for it. Because you look round the world, The mighty mass of mankind, And there are hundreds of millions of people, On this poor sin-cursed earth.
[9:01] And out of that mighty mass, There is a people, Whom God has singled out. And what has he done in singling them out?
[9:15] He has done this. Do see if he has done it for you. A new heart will I give you. A new spirit will I put within you.
[9:27] I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh. I will give you a heart of flesh. I do like that word. And you know I often quote it In the public prayer.
[9:43] And It is very attractive to some of us. It is wonderful to feel That heart of flesh. A soft heart.
[9:57] A contrite heart. The saviour to adore. Maybe you have pondered in your heart What the hymn writer says.
[10:08] I quite believe you have, Some of you. The Lord does happiness divine On contrite hearts bestow. Oh tell me gracious God Is mine a contrite heart?
[10:22] Or no. You cannot always diagnose Your own case. You cannot always Come to a conclusion As to how matters are Between your soul And God.
[10:39] No. But you can always come to a conclusion About the petition in our text. And that is how suitable it is To how you feel in your approaches to God.
[10:54] It is just what you long to realise More In your everyday life. Create in me A clean heart.
[11:09] Oh God. And now This word create In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth And that was Quite simple Easy For God Almighty God To do that But when it comes to a sinner Being born again And to have Within his breast A clean heart created It needed much more For God To bring that about That it was possible For it to be Than when In the beginning God created The heavens and the earth God
[12:11] Did All that he could do That poor sinners Like you And I Journeying on Through life Might have this great mercy Wrought within us A clean heart What did he do To bring it about?
[12:30] God so loved the world God so loved the world That he gave his only begotten son That whosoever believeth in him Should not perish But have everlasting life Create in me Do you say amen Do you say amen to this?
[12:55] You dear young people Some of you Is this what you really desire As you journey Through life In its morning time Going about in the world As many of you do Coming in touch With the ungodliness of it Is there something Within That longs to be otherwise Than those amongst whom You labour to earn The bread which perisheth And have you a little consciousness That you have been made To differ from them Does this petition Well up in your breast Create in me A clean heart Oh God And renew A right spirit Within me Wonderful mercy To possess that new heart I referred to And that heart Of flesh What it really means
[13:55] Is A heart That would take Proper impressions Of the things of God And now you know Whether you do or no You know When you are found In the attitude of worship If you do Desire to receive Benefit and blessing Through the worship Of God As you Go forward Therein You know Your own consciences Would tell you If as you were found Before God In the attitude Of worship You were concerned To get in touch With God And worship Him A right And now If you have got A concern Like that That proceeds From A new heart A new spirit
[14:55] That God Has put Within you You are no longer Just as you were born Whether you can Believe it or not You are born again And God Has taken away The stony heart Out of Your flesh He has given you A heart Of flesh And one Thing about A heart Of flesh Is That you not Only want To receive Right impressions Of the things Of God But you want As you read The word Of God Or As you Listen to the gospel In the proclamation Of it You want To realize The benefit Of it Wrought in your own Soul's Experience As you read The word Of God To feel I rejoice In thy word As one
[15:56] That findeth Great spoil Thy word Is a lamp Unto my feet A light Unto My path And as you Listen to the gospel You listen For yourself Do you?
[16:12] Let your Consciences Tell you Whether you Do or No Whether you Have this Feeling I seek And hope To find A portion For my soul Whether you Whether the routine Of worship Is altogether A bondage To you And you Are just Glad When the Amen Comes That sets You free It will be One Viewpoint Of it Or The other They that are After the flesh Do mind The things Of the flesh But they That are After the spirit The things Of the spirit Create In me A clean Heart Oh God And renew A right Spirit Within me There is one More thought About the heart Of flesh And that is
[17:13] You will Ponder a word That you will Read in the Word of God Be conformed To the image Of his son And the heart Of flesh In you Will respond To that And you Will say Maybe You can use The hymn writer's Language As the image In the glass Answers the Beholder's face Thus unto My heart Appear Print Thy own Resemblance There Creating Me A clean Heart Oh God And now The strange Thing is That When God Is pleased To do this For you And he has Already done It for many Of you Yet you Will never Altogether Feel as you Want to feel About it Because there Is what you Are by nature
[18:13] Ever on the Move And as Every opportunity Is afforded It will fill You with Conflict And emotions And you Will know This The imagination Of man's Heart Is evil From his Youth And that Continually The heart You brought Into the world With you I said When you Were born You still Possessed That And you Were well Aware of it Some of you And Sometimes You can Understand One In writer Crowds Of ill Thoughts There Bane Diffuse Proud Envious False Unclean And every Ransack Corner Shows An Unsuspected Sin In the word Of god I said There were Varied Illustrations And now
[19:14] There is One Which I Feel is Apposite To our Subject Which I Just Refer to And now In Old Testament Times When Israel Were in Their wilderness Wanderings You find Many Rules And laws And regulations Made Both to do With the moral Law And the Ceremonial Law But I Am thinking At this Moment Of that Which is To do With leprosy And now Leprosy Is a Foul Disease There is No Earthly Known Remedy For it And Once It sets In A poor Sinner's Breast It brings Him Ultimately Down To the Grave But There was Not only The leprosy That was Known As the Affliction
[20:15] Of the Body But Sometimes This Leprosy Affected The house In which An Israelite Was living And there Were Blemishes And blots Strange Spots Coming on The walls And When this Happened He who's House it Was Had to go To the Priest Do mark That He had to Go to the Priest And say It It Seemeth To Me There Is a Plague In The House And The Priest Would Go and Consider The House Contemplate It But One Thing Impressed Me Very Much And That Was When The Priest Went To The House To Inspect It To See About The Plague Whether It Was
[21:15] In The Walls Of The House Or No All The Furniture Was Taken Out That It Might Not Be In In In In In In The Leprosy If It Was Indeed In The House And Now If It Was In The House There Was Only One Outcome The Priest Would Say The House Must Come Down And Now That Is How It Is That You And I Ultimately Will Be Going Up To The Church Yard And Over All That Is Mortal Of Us Some Preacher Will Say Earth To Earth Ashes To Ashes And Dust To Dust The Leprosy Of Sin Is In Our Earthly Tabernacle And However Long You And I May Live Sooner Or
[22:15] Later The House Must Come Down There Is The Plague Of Leprosy In It Sin Entered Into The World And Death By Sin And So Death Has Passed Upon All Men For That All All All Have Sin But Oh Do Remember If You Should Be An Israelite Indeed One Who Has The Mercy To Be A Sinner Born Again Although Your Earthly Tabernacle Must Be Dismantled And All That Is Mortal Of You Be Laid In The Grave What God Has Done For Your Soul Will Abide And That Will Not Be Infected By The Leprosy Of Sin That Makes You What You Are By Nature Because It Will Be What You Are By Grace That
[23:15] Will Appear Before God Your Redeemed Spirit And Another Day On The Resurrection Morning When The Dead In Christ Shall Rise First There Will Be A Redeemed Body Arising For Your Redeemed Spirit To Tenant Again And Dwell Forever With The Lord These Are Deep Things To Contemplate And They Are Realities Oh That You And I Might Have More Grace To Think Upon Them To Purpose And Profit Creating Me A Clean Heart Oh God And Now That Means You Will Have A Deep Down Concern In Your Heart The New Heart God Has Given You To Live A Life According To The Life Of The Righteous According To The Pattern Set For In
[24:15] The Sacred Pages You Will Want To Live Unto God Yes I I Like Joseph Heart When He Says Jesus Blood For Sinners Spilt I Depend On Solely To Release Me From My Guilt But I Would Be Holy And Now That Flows From A Clean Heart There Are Clean Desires And The Petitions That You Send Up To God When You Seek To Draw Near To The Majesty Of Heaven Are All To Do That You May Live A Right And At The Last Die Right This Prayer And This Ambition Mine Living And Dying To Be Dying Create In Me A Clean Heart Oh God And
[25:16] Now I Want To Look At The Other View Point Of The Subject For I Am Sure It Is How You Will Feel If You Possess A New Heart And Renew Mark That Word A Right Spirit Within Me Margin Reading Steadfast Spirit And In Looking At This Viewpoint Of The Subject I Begin By Saying How Essential It Is That You And I Should Possess A Right Spirit Do You Know I Hope You Do And If You Do I Hope You Will Grant That What You Know For The Future Should Make You More Concerned Than Ever To Be In A Right Spirit I Was Going To Say Do
[26:16] You Know That All The Mischief That Has Been Wrought In Our Denominational Life And That Brings Discord And Things That Ought Not To Be Controversy Dissension Into Causes Of Truth Is For The Want Of Being In A Right Spirit It All Arises When People Though They Be Godly Are In A Wrong Spirit And Now Then You And I Should Be Urgent And Earnest Before God Renew A Right Spirit Within Me And Now What Is A Right Spirit A Right Spirit Is That Which Will Ever Put The Things Of God First A Right Spirit Is That Which Desires In The Beginning God
[27:17] And The Margin Reading Steadfast Is Very Apposite In Some Bibles It Is Constant And That Is What You Would Desire To Be Ever In A Right Spirit Let Thy Good Spirit Rule My Heart Govern All My Words And Ways Let Grace Abound In Every Part Teach My Tongue To Speak Thy Praise And That Wonderful Prayer Of The Psalmist In One Of His Earlier Psalms And I Have No Doubt You Have Been Glad To Use It Let The Words Of My Mouth And The Meditation Of My Heart Be Acceptable In Thy Sight O Lord My Strength And My Redeemer You
[28:18] See Everything Hinges On Being Found In A Right Spirit Renew The Psalmist Had Known What It Was To Be In A Right Spirit And When He Was He Penned A Psalm Like This The Lord Is My Shepherd I Shall Not Want And Other Beautiful Psalms Yes But Here He Is A Far Off From God Conscious At The Ends Of The Earth Of His Great Guiltiness Wherein He Has Erred And Strayed Like A Lost Sheep But He Says If He Did Say It In The 119th Psalm It Is Recorded I Have Erred And Strayed Like A Lost Sheep Seek Thy Servant For I Do Not Forget Thy Commandments And The Psalmist
[29:18] Longed To Be Brought Back To Where He Had Been Before In His Soul's Experience And That Is Just What Some Of You Dear People Would Be Oh So Glad If God Would Be Pleased To Do It For You Like The Psalmist Says Here Restore Unto Me The Joy Of Thy Salvation Renew You Have Known What It Is To Be In The Right Spirit Dear Friends Some Of You When You Could Be Found Like The Man In The Gospel Sitting At Jesus Feet Clothed And In A Right Mind A Right Spirit And When You Felt Like That I Can Tell You Somewhat How You Did Feel Then Although It May Be God Had Laid Some Cross Upon You You
[30:18] Could Say I Know Oh Lord That Thy Judgement Are Right And That Thou Hast In Faithfulness Afflicted Me You Could Humble Yourself Under The Mighty Hand Of God And You Could Say Thou Art Our Potter We Are The Clay Shall Not The Judge Of All The Earth Do Right That Is What Flows From Being In In A Right Spirit Renew A Right Spirit Within Me And Now This Right Spirit When You're In It Will Be A Spirit Of Concern What I Mean Is You Will Be Concerned That First Things Should Be First In Your Everyday Life Before God And Man It
[31:19] Is Very Solemn To Go On With A Name On A Church Roll Too I'm Not Fitting Any Caps On But To Go On Day By Day And There Seem To Be No Special Movement After God Or Godliness But You Are Like The Hymn Writer And Good It Is When You Are Like The Hymn Writer And Brought At Length To Feel As He Felt Dear Lord And Shall We Ever Live At This Poor Dying Rate Our Love So Cold So Faint To Thee And Thine To Us So Great Renew A Right Spirit A Spirit Of Concern You See It Will Never Do To Go On And On And On With Just A Name To Live Because You May Have To Consider What Another Hymn Writer Says Good Creed May Stock Our Heads About And In Our Hearts No Grace Be Found
[32:20] There Is A Word Which Will Make You Think As Grace Is Given Woe To Them That Are At Ease In Zion Oh It Is A Good Thing When You Have Got This Petition Lodged In Your Breast Create In Me A Clean Heart Oh God Let Godliness Be My Chief Concern To Have Matters Right Between My Soul And The Renew A Right Spirit Within Me And Now This Right Spirit Will Always Be A Spirit Of Conviction Of Sin You See In The Psalm That I Read Where The Subject Is Found How Godly David Was Brought To Have To Do With God And He Makes Lamentable
[33:20] Confessions Of Sin And I Can Tell You It Is A Great Mercy When You Get Grace To Do It The Psalm Is Said I Will Be Sorry For My Sins I Have Often Wished I Could Be But You Cannot Create That Godly Sorrow And That Repentance Unto Life That Needeth Not To Be Repented Of But It Is A Great Mercy To Be Concerned To Possess It If God Will In Mercy Bestow It I Have Thought Often Of That Word Which Is Very Familiar To You If If We Confess Our Sins He Is Faithful And Just To Forgive Us Our Sins And To Cleanse Us From All Un Righteousness But Mark That Word If Oh You Do Need Divine To Get On The Right Side Of It And
[34:20] To Go On And Pour Out Your Heart Before God And Like The Woman In The Gospel Tell Him All The Truth Yes And Glad You Will Be When You Seek To Do It To Take Up Scripture Language Oh My God I Am Ashamed I Blush To Lift Up My Face Unto Thee God Be Merciful To Me A Sinner Behold I Am Vile Is This Polluted Heart A Dwelling Fit For Thee Swarming Alas In Every Part What Evils Do I See Create In Me A Clean Heart Oh God And Renew A Right Spirit Within Me And Now This Right Spirit Will Also Be A Spirit Of Separation From The World And
[35:23] There Is One Viewpoint Of That Which I Want You To Contemplate And The Lord Grant Your Grace To Do It And That Is You Can Have The World Under Your Own Home Root And That Can Be Very Inimical To Being In A Right Spirit It I I'm I'm I'm I'm In The Latter Days Of My Ministry And I Have Got To Aim To Have A Good Conscience When I Come Down To Die And I'm Bound To Tell You The Truth I Desire To Do So As Grace Is Given And I Say You Can Have The World Under Your Home Roof While You Live Separate From Other People Who Dwell Round About You And You Need This Petition Renew A Right Spirit Within Me A Spirit Of Separation From The World A Spirit That Will Cause You To Look At The
[36:24] Daily News Before You Look Into The Word Of God Itself To Get What Is The News From Heaven Concerning You And The Way You Are Going Along And The Radio And The Television And Many More Things Too Which Could Be Named Ought To Be Named It May Be But I Must Not Take Up The Time But This Right Spirit Will Cause You To Feel Oh Did You Ever Feel It Let Worldly Minds The World Pursue It Hath No Charms For Me Once I Admired Its Trifles Too But Grace Has Set Me Free When All Is Said And Done These Things Are Trifles In The World But They Do Please Our Carnal Minds And What You Are By Nature But Then What Is The Outcome Of It To
[37:24] Be Carnally Minded Is Death To Be Spiritually Minded Is Life And Peace Renew A Right Spirit Within Me Separation From The World To Be To This World As Dead And Alive To That Which Is To Come Another Thought Is You Do Need The Spirit Of Prayer To Be Renewed And Good It Is When You Can Feel A Renewal Of It And Feel What You Love To Realize Nearness To God To Pour Out Your Heart At Jesus Feet But Sometimes Our Prayers Seem To Be So Much Repetition We Do Humbly Hope It Is Not Vain Repetition Every Day Brings Us The Same Needs
[38:25] And We Have To Voice Those Needs Before God And That Is Not Vain Repetition Although It Is Repetition But You Do Want A Right Spirit Regarding It Renew A Right Spirit Within Me Yes Lord Teach Us To Pray Oh It Is So Essential That The Lord Should Do So I Often Say My Prayers But Do I Ever Pray Do The Feelings Of My Heart Go With The Words I Say Renew A Right Spirit Within Me How Glad You Would Be Some Of You To Have The Spirit Of Prayer Renewed You You Can You Can You You Can Go Back I Say To Times When You Have Felt It Is Good For Me To Draw Near To God
[39:25] When You Realized Where The Spirit Of The Lord Is There Is Liberty When In Drawing Near To God You Obtain Sweet Relief In Your Soul's Feelings And Though Your Troubles Were Not Yet Sorted Out You Could Believe The Hand Of God Was At Work To Cause All Things To Do With You To Work Together For Your Ultimate Good And You Could Say It Is The Lord Let Him Do What Seemeth Him Good Renew A Right Spirit Within Me And What You And I Do Need Renewed Is A Spirit Of Thankfulness I Look At That Word I Should Be Almost Afraid To Try To Preach From It Unless It Was Very
[40:26] Specially Laid On My Mind Then I Could Hope To Have Divine Aid To Do It But It Would Be Very Searching And Solemn To Try To Preach From It And Now The Apostle Paul Says In Everything Give Thanks And Now You Set That Off As A Standard As Regards You And I Being Thankful To God For All His Mercies Toward Us And And Some Things You Do Not Regard As Mercies You Think They Are Miseries But Then The Apostle Paul Says In Everything Give Thanks Whatever Does The Apostle Paul Mean Then What He Does Mean Is This That If You Help To Be In A Right Spirit Before God And Live As In His Sight In All His Dealings With You You Will Find There
[41:27] Is Something In Everything Whereby You Should Give Thanks Because You Will Have This Wrought In Your Souls Experience We Know That All Things Work Together For Good To Them That Love God To Them Who Are The Called According To His Purpose Yes We Come Very Short Dear Friends In This Matter Of Giving Thanks And I Like The Psalmist Petition Lower Down In The Psalm O Lord Open Thou My Lips And My Mouth Shall Show For Thy Praise Praise Ye The Lord It Is Good To Raise Your Hearts And Voices In His Praise And You Can Always Find A Starting Point In Giving Thanks In
[42:28] The Lamentations Of Jeremiah Begin There And Then Carry On It Is Of The Lord's Mercy We Are Not Consumed And Because His Compassions Fail Not Thou Thou Thou Thou Not Dealt With Us After Our Sins Neither Hast Thou Rewarded Us According To Our Iniquities Begin There And Then Keep On Begin With The Wonderful Truth That You're Outside Hell And Have A Hope You Will Never Be In That Dread Abode And Then Count Your Blessings and you will find you have got a lifelong business in everything.
[43:13] Give thanks. Renew a right spirit within me. A spirit of praise. A spirit of gratitude. Yes.
[43:24] Much might be said under that heading. But then you and I need in this right spirit the spirit of faith. Because if you and I are believers many of us are because going through the baptismal waters it was believers baptism.
[43:47] Remember that. Your name on the church roll constitutes you as being recorded as a believer. And now what do you believe?
[44:01] Lord help us to believe what we do believe. Good Mr. Colville used to say often in his public prayer. You and I need to say it too in our prayers.
[44:13] Renew a right spirit within me. Lord increase our faith. Because there is a word the Savior said. I've thought on it many times.
[44:24] Be not afraid. Only believe. All things are possible to him that believe it. You see how needful it is to have faith though it be as a grain of mustard seed to help us to follow on to know the Lord.
[44:47] Renew a right spirit within me. We need to the spirit of hope to be renewed.
[44:59] Because you find sometimes people who have made a long profession of the name of Jesus have seen much of his goodness and mercy and have recorded it and told it out to the edification of others taught of God listening.
[45:17] Yet you can get in touch with them at times in their right down bedrock in the lamentations of Jeremiah and there they are only hoping against hope.
[45:34] And now what does the hymn writer say? Do remember I've told it to you quite a few times. All through the wilderness below good hope expects more good to know and thus is kept alive the soul.
[45:51] What did this dear Selmist say? You have said it. Why art thou cast down O my soul? Why art thou disquieted within me?
[46:02] Hope thou in God? I shall yet praise him who is the health of my countenance and my God. Renew a right spirit.
[46:15] The spirit of faith. The spirit of hope. And we might add a spirit of love. Oh that is essential. Love is the fulfilling of the law.
[46:29] He that loveth is born of God. And you know a loveless spirit manifested by people who are taught of God has done a great deal of mischief in our denominational life.
[46:47] Oh this petition must never grow rusty for the want of using by you or me. Renew a right spirit within me.
[47:00] The spirit of love. The fruit of the spirit is love. But I must come to the Amen. I might have said there is a spirit of sobriety.
[47:13] And when all is said and done as you and I in our everyday life journey about over the ground under which all that is mortal of us will sooner or later be underneath it does become us to evidence sobriety of spirit not to be found light and trifling and playing the fool like buried speaks about renew a right spirit within me.
[47:49] There is one other characteristic of a right spirit and that was some of all and now a spirit of fruitfulness. here is my father glorified that ye bear much fruit so mark the word so shall ye be my disciples.
[48:10] Fruit or fire one of the two it will be these three years I came seeking fruit on this fig tree and finding none cut it down why cumbereth it the ground?
[48:29] Have you never felt to be a ground Christian? Some of us have known a little of what that feeling is but then sometimes deep down in our hearts there is something like this quickened by thee and kept alive I'd flourish and bear fruit my life I'd from thy sap derive my vigour from thy root renew a right spirit a fruitful spirit a concern to be more urgent in showing whose we are and whom we serve and using every opportunity to do good unto all men and especially they that be of the household of faith maybe in coming to the amen the hymn writer's word will sum it up oh make this heart rejoice or ache decide this doubt for me and if it be not broken break and heal it if it be amen then again go to link the cross will preach to rest of care
[50:00] Game number 283, the third verse. Tune, Ellingham, 462. To the point I long to know, awful for this anxious thought.
[50:16] Do I love the moon, or no? Am I made, or am I? If I love, why am I asked? Why wouldst thou like the same?
[50:27] Hardly sure that they were sure to have never heard of it. To have made the sea. To my heart so hard remain, Where a torch can burn and prove Every trifle give me pain If I knew a savior of love When I turn my eyes within
[51:31] All is dark and faint and wild Filled with unbelief and sin God, I need myself a child If I pray, O dear Lord, Your glory Sin is mixed with all I do You that loved the Lord in me
[52:33] Though he is in love with you Yet I hold thy storm on will Yet I hold thy storm on will Find thy sin, thy grief and throne Sure, thy grace, O dear Lord Should I be grateful what I feel If I did not love at all If I did not love at all O thy joy is saved to me
[53:39] To the great I once upon Find thy grace, O dear Lord I am wonderful Find that time's a promise free If I did not love the Lord If I did not love the Lord Lord, beside the doubtful case Thou who art thy people's son Shine upon thy word for praise
[54:40] If it be in thee, dear Lord Let me love thee more and more Let me love thee more and more If I love that old I pray If I have no love before Help me to begin to live May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
[55:43] And the love of God the Father The communion of the Holy Spirit Be upon us and all who love the truth Everywhere Amen and Amen
