[0:00] words that I hope the Lord may be pleased to help me to speak from this afternoon you'll find in the 18th sound verse 16 the 18th sound the 16th verse he sent from above he took me he drew me over many walks he sent from above he took me he drew me over many walks i have known that most of us can add to such a word as this our amen as we consider a little of the Lord's dealings with us in that he has seen fit to cause us to be as were those members of the church of ephesus to whom the apostle wrote and said and knew at the quicker who were dead in trespasses and sin what a wonderful mercy my friends to be quickened into divine life not to be left to live and fill up the measure of our iniquity and then to drop into hell as we deserve to my friends had not the Lord's been fit to send oh what a word this is he sent just think of it my friend the great God the God of the universe the creator of everything that you and I can see with our natural eyes mortal eyes and many things that we can't see or there are those things which are visible those things that are invisible
[2:58] God has created them and yet in his infinite mercy he has saved it to send and this sending is very beautifully set before us by the one who he sent God the father sent his well-gid of his son and when he was here on earth working out the robe of righteousness to clothe his dear people in suffering bleeding dying hiding up his face from shame and spitting I say while he was here on earth he condescended to speak to a man at night very significant character was Nicodemus the same came to Jesus by night have you come to the Lord Jesus by night oh he was like the spouse who said
[4:23] I sought him whom my soul loved and she said I sought him but could not find him but did you give up the search you'll never give up the search my friends if God makes you search because what he does is done for us is done for ever and what he does is covered by that beautiful word of the sound as you said he said the Lord will perfect that which concerned me for many such things are with him oh what a mercy my friends if we know something of what the Lord Jesus said to that man who came to him by dying God so loved the world that he gave his only bevottom Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life some are foolish enough to speak of that text as a free will text some people when they've heard such a text announced they've got up and walked out but I hope none of us want to walk out what do we do it's free grace free grace the grace of God that bringeth salvation out of fear to all men teaching us and what a great blessing that we are taught by grace what the Lord teaches my friends will be effectual we may not be able to boast of quantity but if the Lord is teaching you you've got quality that's what matters my friends yeah many may have a quantity of so-called religion but there's no quality in oh the Lord that we may be on the stretch for quality well now we've got it in the text he sent from above he did and he shall have the honor of it he shall have the glory of it and he will bring his dear people willing in the day of his power to honor him and to glorify him for that work which he has done and bring him and bring him to say with the dear psalmist can we join in on this thanksgiving occasion and say with the psalmist because over this psalm
[7:24] I notice the psalmist praises God for his wonderful deliverances could you begin to count as you look back over your experience how many deliverances the Lord has given you first private secret deliverances oh we couldn't begin to count those secret deliverances could we and how we feel to stand in need of him to still deliver us and to know what the apostle meant when he said he hath delivered he doth deliver and we trust he will yet deliver us but he will deliver and the psalmist had wonderful deliverances he was indeed the servant of the Lord and he spake unto the Lord the words of this song in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul and he said
[8:31] I will love the Lord for I will love thee O Lord by strength when I read that other sound that commences very similar just forget the note which sound it is but a sound I believe is not far from here that commences in this way I love the Lord because he hath heard by voice and by supplication but you don't forget once reading that in the gospel standard our late friend Mr. Popham referred to it and as I read it it came so sweet into my heart I love the Lord can you say that this afternoon my friend if he sees fitting his infinite mercy to shed his love abroad in your heart oh you'll say
[9:34] I love the Lord and if you love the Lord you'll love his people his house his day his word his ways his ordinances his commandments you'll love everything that he loves what a wonderful thing yes the Lord brought us more of that experience that is in the hymn that commences like this I should never forget the late deacon at East Princeton giving that hymn out when I was there once dear man he was broken on the feet when Jesus with his mighty love visits my troubled breath my doubts subside my fears removed and I'm completely blessed oh if we come here to Petworth this afternoon and this evening my dear friends and feel to be completely blessed then we shall not envy the worldly of their so-called pleasures they will say what I believe
[10:53] I was had to say on one occasion when I was in a very low place I did feel to be one of the most miserable creatures on earth and I passed by a public house near my home at Crandall and they were singing the top of their voices in that place and then it came to me like this do you want to change places with them oh I could say before the Lord I would rather have my misery for their joy and I felt I could join in with that language boast not ye sons of earth nor look with scorn for the heart about your highest mirth and saddest our weep cries for thou e'er clapped same still we go there's something sacred sweet at all and what is the secret he sent from the earth so we shall have to say the rest of the journey and throughout eternity not unto us not unto us but unto thy name give glory for thy mercy and for thy true sake he sent from above what a wonderful word this is my friends does it not remind us of what dear
[12:35] James says in his epistle you know James is a very practical man and I wish there were more of those practical things practiced in the church of church like today that are found in the epistle of James but what does James say what's the secret of it all my friends I believe your practice and mine will be right if we get the right side of that word every good gift and every perfect gift is from above he sent from above that was very sweet to us recently speaking from those words at Lingleville where the Lord is above the mercy yes the Lord is above and he looks down into this sanctuary this afternoon and sees us gathered together and knows just what we desire because he not only looks on the outside as we do but he looks into our hearts he knows just what's going on in your heart and what a wonderful thing if he put within you some good thing toward himself he sends to above and does that
[14:03] I will put my laws in their hearts and in their minds but I write them and their sins and their iniquities but I remember no more what a blessed promise that is what how often we have to plead do we not as we realize our symmetry realize that solemn truth that the Salmist brings before us when he says praise waiteth for the old God in child unto thee so thou be performed oh thou that hearst prayer unto thee shall all flesh come iniquities provide against me as for our transgressions as our eternal wives how wonderful the word of God is I feel sometimes as though and I believe it is so the word of
[15:06] God takes in the extreme it goes from one extreme to the other what a great blessing it is because often we find extremes working in their old heart one you know felt it to such extent as he said this to good and evil equal men are both the devil and the same they don't hear much of that language today but it's still true concerning God's people and if there's any man under the sun that feel the truth of it is the Lord servant those who have to continually stand before the people and minister to others and feel themselves to be so utterly unequal and insubficient that they have to say with the apostle who is sufficient to these things well I feel to be most insubficient and I would be only too glad for our dear friend and brother that is preaching this evening to have taken both these services but that was his wish and so
[16:19] I hope we shall prove to be not only his wish but God will the will of the Lord be done you know that brings us together the will of the Lord be done there be no divisions in the church you know if there were anything come to an end if it comes that point the will of the Lord be done even if it means we must suffer if it means we must be persecuted if it means we must come into all those things upon which or the characters upon whom the Lord has pronounced the blessing as found in the fifth chapter the gospel according to Matthew poor are you poor in spite of your poverty he sent from the path do you mourn in spite of your mourning he sent from the path
[17:26] I know how many different ways the Lord looks upon his dear people and yet at each point he says blessed blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake theirs blessed are the pure heart of agency God blessed are the poor in spirit theirs the kingdom of God and so on but he sent from above now the son is to go a step further when the Lord sends from above he sends to do something he does not labour in vain no nor will he allow his servants to labour in vain this he do it that they shall know in due time that they have not labour in vain when we read that labour is worthy of his hire that means more than
[18:38] LSD now I can think of dear old Mr. Rose he'll ever be out of my mind while memory holds her seen blessed man he was I sat under his ministry and bought him and a young man and the dear old man said once when the deacon gave him some money after the service well he says when you pay me money that pays my expenses if the Lord blesses a soul that pays me soul blessed oh that we might as we rejoice in the natural harvest in our churches my friends yes here that network as well as elsewhere in Zion oh we might see an gathering of precious souls what is your attitude to war of poor sinners my friends is it the same as the attitude of
[19:46] Christ if any man have not the state of Christ in our head if we got the state of Christ we should be concerned for the salvation of poor sinners you might say but we don't know who are the Lord that why you should be concerned with it that's what you should be concerned it begins in our own family we have dear children unless the Lord and sometimes when the Lord does see fit to assure us that that child will be manifest as is we have a trial a bitter trial a long trial and I live to prove that where we have the word that that soul will be blessed in due time the great of the trial but the Lord tried the righteous that one of the marks of being among the righteous my friends if you tried you know my wife says to me that you tired
[20:56] I say more tried than tired we do get tired sometimes but the Lord gives us sweet sleep and that sleep is so reflected we got our way of rejoicing he sent from above he took me he took me what a wonderful thing was that and he didn't wait till you got better before he took you did you know we say that sometimes and mean it when we say it to those who seem to be so lingering relative to walking in the ways of God and following Christ in the ordinance of his house if you tarry to your better you will never come at all not the righteous sinners Jesus came to call he sent through her and he took me sinner as
[22:00] I was and oh many we have left on record in this sacred body of God's word who could live claim for this he sent through the body took me the dying feet rejoiced the sea the fountain in his God man sir Mary magnified but you will not be satisfied or how will you rejoice in it that the Lord took the dying thief and he took man and he took Mary but you say I want to know he took Mary well here it is it's a word it's my word it's a word for me to declare he sent from above he took me awake my soul in the mortal name sing thy great redeemer's praise he just became a song from me why because he took me many years ago now
[23:09] I believe the Lord gave me those lines from my own and woke up with them one morning who saw me you knew it in the forth yet lovely not to stand you all what a wonderful thing that is choice do not depend on sinners no it depends upon his own everlasting love his eternal choice the father choosing the son redeeming the holy spirit quickening and all that he quickens he will comfort and if you're here this afternoon sign for comfort my friend you have the proof of being quickened it's quickened sinners that want comfort he sent from above he choked me he really me you you know what it is to be drawn drawn then you pray that prayer of the spouse draw me will run after me and as you are drawn so you know what it is to be brought into the banquet of hell for his banner owe you to be loved and your size stymie with flagons comfort me with heart and sick of love oh to know that his left hand is under her head and her his right hand is up to drill me very wonderful word in the third chapter of ecclesiastical among many other wonderful words of course but a time to rise and a time to restrain from embracing let's never know the time of embracing mother when you felt the
[25:23] Lord in glory he nailed it ah cords of love and the love everlasting love he drew me brought me into the banquet in heaven his banner over me was love yes my friends it's love from beginning to end we poor ministers could never preach another sermon unless the message was love and it is love yes yes yes you know something of it and if you know a little of it you want to know more God is love he he that loveth is born of God and know God he that loveth not know it not God for
[26:24] God is love oh what a great blessing my friends to know this that we had before us here he sent from above he took me and drew me out of many water yes if the Lord has sent from above and taken you you are standing in need many many times of this to be drawn out of many water but Lord if to prove the truth of that word concerning love many waters cannot quench it neither can the flood drown it if a man should give all the substance his house for love it would be utterly condemned oh my friends what a mercy if we know something of these things and their experience he sent to above he took me and grew me into many waters margin rendering great waters waters of affliction waters of adversity so the
[27:38] Lord give thee the bread of affliction and the water the water of affliction the bread of adversity and give me that water but there's a stag where you have to eat and to pray for me water and it is there where we get fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ for he knew this as a stag of sinner he put himself in a position so that he could need all this that's in the text because we read of him being heard in that which he feels and though he were a son yet earned the obedience by the things that he suffered we cannot begin to for one moment conceive the greatness of the skill of the
[28:43] Lord Jesus when he kind man my flesh running among us he beheld says the apostle his glory his glory as the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth and what fullness of grace and what fullness of truth we have in the words of our text this afternoon he said from above he took me and through many more well now I cannot go on much longer because I have a great pleasure to perform here this afternoon the Lord has seen fit in his infinite mercy to hear and answer many prayers and grant some addition to this little church we have heard the testimony of three dear friends to which to unite in fellowship here at
[29:57] Patworth and it is a great privilege to me as I look back over the history of this different course and find it recorded that the first baptism took place here in 1911 and there were three candidates and Mr.
[30:25] Russell of Scuttles administered that ordinance of baptism and then soon after the church was formed by Mr. E. Dick Nook Pastor of Radio Service and that was in 1911 that seems remarkable to many it is remarkable that as Mr.
[30:47] Pickner was my predecessor that it has fallen to my lot to be the means in the hand of God for some gracious reviving in this church and I pray that there may be yet others added beside those in our action we intend that the Lord may help us to administer the ordinance and would be glad if any friends who are of the same faith and order desire to partake with us we shall be only to willing and it will be a pleasure for you to sit down with us and I shall have the pleasure to give to our dear friend Mrs.
[31:40] Windybank Mr. Windybank and there is the right hand of the church and they await an honourable dismissal from the church at the house of there which the pastor has informed me will in due course be forth and so we hope that from now on in this little sanctuary we may strive together for the peace of the church and that all things may be done decently and in order and my dear friend and brother this evening feel self-help and endued by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel here that he may feel Lord it is good for us and we all shall make good the
[32:46] Lord grant his blessing upon the few revives and feel my revives are poor but it is only what the Lord gives us my friends and as he helps us so we would desire to help you I had a particular desire that this day we might have a flowing in a flowing into the world into our hearts to speak a flowing out from our hearts and then a flowing into the hearts of the hearers and that if that be so a flowing together for the goodness of the Lord and then a flowing out to the Lord in praise and thanks giving because what the Lord gives we gather and if we realize he is the giver of these things the Lord and peace love the honor of the honor not only while we still abide in this body but when we ever have you
[33:50] I know come I I have I have a whatever we have of the huh
