[0:00] The words I would thank you to try and make a few remarks from you will find in the first chapter of the Gospel according to St. John. The fourteenth verse, the fourteenth verse, the first chapter of the Gospel according to St. John.
[0:20] And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
[0:42] I am sure that there is no human thought or no human tongue can enter into the depths that these words imply.
[0:55] Only as they are revealed as they were under John by the Holy Spirit.
[1:06] Man may have thoughts upon them. Man may have his consideration upon them.
[1:18] But unless they are opened up in all their beauty and splendor, they will leave us short of the vital realities that coast beneath the world.
[1:37] And so we need the enshining of the Holy Spirit to lead us into the blessedness of the truth before us.
[1:54] The word was made flesh. Well, John tells us in the beginning of this chapter. In the beginning was the word.
[2:08] And the word was with God. And the word was God. So he is very evident that this word is none other than the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
[2:29] Who dwelt with the Father, co-eternal with the Holy Ghost, three, one, eternal God before all worlds.
[2:43] And that they were united, if I may speak reverently there, in all those things concerning the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
[2:58] In that he should be that one, that it should be made flesh. Now this is where the death is.
[3:09] We can never fathom the great mysterious work of the Father. In the appointment of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the Savior of sinners.
[3:27] And that miraculous work of his. That our dear Savior, as the word was made flesh. In that he was born here on earth.
[3:40] Born in that miraculous way. The truth. And I wish men could never fathom. And yea, many deny the bledged incarnation of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
[3:57] But faith, living faith, embraces this mystery. And believes it because of the application of it to the soul.
[4:16] There's a vast difference between the truth. There's a vast difference between the truth. There's a vast difference between the truth. Believing it. In the word as the written word. But when it is revealed.
[4:28] By the Holy Ghost in the soul. Faith embraces it. And loves it. And I believe that time will soften the heart.
[4:45] And bring it into that place. Where we shall say I love the incarnate mystery. And there I fix my trust.
[4:59] So it will not be just something that happened many years ago. There's something that took place. And caused that to be made known to men here on earth.
[5:20] But if we shall want the knowledge of it. In our own souls. Something far more than the earth would show of it.
[5:31] Or by anything that we might consider our souls.
[5:42] To be acceptable under God. So then. If God in his love and compassion.
[5:55] We feel it unto us. That this word. Was made flesh. That is he took in union.
[6:07] With his divine nature. The human flesh. Yet holy and undefiled. Without sin. Oh the depth of the mystery.
[6:21] Of that union. Of the incarnate Lord. With a human body.
[6:34] And yet. Without sin. Pure. And holy. And undefiled. And then you know.
[6:45] When. He came here on earth. As he did with us. In that miraculous birth. And was born. As others. Upon the earth.
[6:56] With that one. Amazing. And unpatternable. Difference.
[7:08] That it was by the overshadowing. Of the Holy Ghost. So that. That we have it in this particular verse.
[7:20] The only begotten of the Father. His only son. Bold of his bones. I might say that reverently. And one too.
[7:32] That was equal. With the Father. And the Holy Ghost. And yet. That great depth. We shall never fathom.
[7:44] But believe. That. He was born in your honor. And that. When he was born. There was that evidence.
[7:57] That he was that child. Christ Jesus. Who should. Come here on earth. And you know how.
[8:09] We have it recorded. That the angels. Heralded his birth. I've tried to.
[8:21] Visualize a little of this. In the past few days. And often. You've heard me say. I know. That I'm not too. Much taken off.
[8:32] With. At this time of the year. But one hope. We've been led. On this particular season. And this year. A little more. Into these things. And we've tried to visualize. That wonderful day. When.
[8:43] The angels came. And heralded his birth. And you know how it was too. With the wise men. How. They saw his town east. And how you see it was that. They came. To worship. A wonderful thing.
[8:54] We come to worship. But a terrible thing. We come to worship. Oh. What a terrible thing. That there is. When. We are left. That we should be left. In a condition.
[9:05] Of the wise men. How. They saw his town east. And how you see it was that. They came. To worship. A wonderful thing. We come to worship. But a terrible thing. We come to mock.
[9:16] Oh. What a terrible thing. That there is. When. We are left. We should be left. In a condition.
[9:27] Of where. Many were left. Even in his day. To mock him. But you know. God will not leave his people there.
[9:39] They come to worship. Oh. What a mercy. Did you and I. This morning. Have come to worship. To worship him. And you know. These wise men.
[9:50] Came to worship. And how did they. You know. These wise men. Came to worship. And how did they worship. Why they didn't worship with. A lot of. Those. These.
[10:01] That are the fish. They came. And bowed before him. They brought unto him. Their presence. Gold. Frankincense. And birth. What are these. I believe. That the child of God.
[10:12] Will come. And worship. They will come. With. Thanksgiving. Adoration. And love. Gold. Frankincense. And birth. Gold.
[10:23] Frankincense. And birth. And they will present it. To him. They will present these things. To him. In thankfulness. And adoration. And love. And love. Gold.
[10:34] Frankincense. And birth. And they will present it. To him. They will present these things. To him. As enabled. In thankfulness. And adoration. And love. And he.
[10:45] Has. As he came here on earth. Came for that express purpose. That he should save his people. Out from. A sin. And deliver them from the powers of evil.
[10:56] And ultimately. Receive them unto himself. In an eternal. And everlasting. In an eternal. And everlasting. Inheritance. So then.
[11:07] As we are favored. Even in this hour day. To come to the eternal. And his eternal. And his eternal. As he came here on earth. And his eternal. As he came here on earth. Came for that express purpose. That he should save his people. Out from.
[11:18] As sin. And deliver them from the powers of evil. And ultimately. And ultimately. Receive them unto himself. In an eternal. And everlasting. day to come in our humble way and manner to worship him and bow before the Lord our maker and to and to feel a little of that love in our hearts as we view him not as many are left to do today in the awful idolatry and wickedness that are bounding on every hand not to dwell there but I say not as such but as we come in a humble spirit to worship the child Jesus and he and being almighty God as well as child well as that child in his incarnation and in his holiness and his might and yet weakness oh the depth of the mystery there is here that though he was almighty
[12:34] God and yet he was in his weakness as he lay in the manger and there as he lay there wrapped in swaddling clothes helpless you see through God doing one thing for himself as a child and yet the king of glory the king of grace crowned in majesty and power by the father as we view him the Lamb of God which taketh away the the sin of the world so that in that in that child alone we see he was that one that the father calls to be brought forth born of the Virgin Mary and also that he might a bear ultimately bear the sins of me in the sins of his people can we can you and I have some humble hope that our crimson dyed sins black and foul appellate and that he came for that special purpose though you and I then had no being another death isn't it and yet being in him by divine purpose in the covenant he came that sure I might that he came for that special purpose that he came for that special purpose that he had no being that he came for that special purpose that he had no being given unto him in the covenant and that he came here that expressed purpose to deliver from the parliament the word was made flesh so that we find as he went through life's journey that there were those evidence that he had a human body yet without sin for we read being weary of his journey he felt set thus upon the well and you know other evidences too are that he did eat and drink as others and how he went from place to place and how he went through the villages and cities preaching the gospel and one has that earnest desire that there may be my blessed power that I may as enabled and strength given and strength given to go here and there and preach the gospel not a gospel not a gospel but the gospel not a gospel not a gospel but the gospel such a difference such a difference but the the but the gospel is that that is in Christ the truth the truth and nothing but the truth without any adulteration to suit
[16:35] the puny minds of men indeed as it is of dwarves today but to return the word was made flesh it was made flesh that he might that he might be able to suffer bleed and die the just the unjust you see it was the only way and the only appointment of the father that he should take upon himself and at this form that he might be able to shed his precious blood to atone for sin and so the day did come when this was accomplished also and I do feel we cannot separate the birth of Christ from the crucifixion it's one blended whole because you see it was as a completion of that full work which he came to do so that we worship the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as we view him from the cradle to the cross and also at the resurrection and now enthroned in glory
[18:14] King of kings and Lord of lords preeminent over all things preeminent over all men and devils and the father yet pleased him that in in Christ should all fullness dwell all the fullness of the Godhead all the fullness of grace and mercy that fullness which alone is found in Christ and never never will be found in man for man is as a grasshopper before God and as clive these heavenly hands for the world was made flesh and dwelt among us see how John bear witness on that how that he came here on earth and dwelt among men some received him some rejected him hope hope we will hear when they rejected him oh no the wicked shall do wickedly
[19:40] God says and none of the wicked shall understand but he will cause his word to enter into the hearts of those that he have fore prepared to receive it as he did in the days when he was here on earth to see then there was those that received him those that heard his voice and those that followed him though they being of like passions as you and I often fell and come miserably short they did indeed I love to read of the characters in God's word those that followed him and those too who are made manifest as though that he had core migrants how you see they've aligned you and I full of fear full of doubt now many many many uh impoverties come upon them and yet how the word being made flesh came and brought among them and how they knew him how they once said in his word we have found him of whom
[21:21] Moses in the law and the prophets did write Jesus of Nazareth the son of Joseph have you found him son of it's a mercy if we have some evidence if only in spite of it that we have found him found him that we can say unto others we have found him of whom Moses in the law and in the prophets did write Jesus of Nazareth the son of Joseph they saw it but you see how it was I believe as though how Philip beheld it then but he had revealed unto him he is not only the son of Joseph but also the son of God incarnate well then he dwells not only dwell among dwells among them when he honor us he dwells among his people yes he does indeed indeed or have we had some humble hope in the past year he dwells among us here has he now then come and touched our hearts oh little feeling of his love and his mercy toward us and and given us some humble hope that even here those only a few of us that it has been his dwelling place you know when you and I have had felt a little touch of these things and caused us the softness of spirit you know it is that he dwells among us as a far different between heaven and softness of spirit when his love is felt within and that heavenly peace within us are then having tears of self pity and because we have been found out in my being oh we know the difference with these tears you know some of us the few years we went on with tears of self pity and didn't know it we thought they were real you know ah but real tears are those that come when the love of God is felt in the soul when we are brought into that place to love our Lord and Savior and when we view him as I hope we have done at times and and it may be only just one tear as it will ah that comes forth in one moments thought of him in love that is love that is all that that comes forth spontaneously from the soul and perfect and quality us for a moment have as soft as a spirit surely as it does not this does not come by our own and help by being brought into some kind of excitement in our hearts.
[24:54] Oh, my friends, what a difference there is in real things and those things which are only of the flesh. The word was made, flesh and dwells among us.
[25:08] Well, he not only dwells among his people, but he dwells in their hearts. Yes. Oh, what a mercy he dwells in our hearts.
[25:20] Why, he left us. Oh, did not dwell in our hearts rather, how we should never, never know the blessedness and the sweetness of his love and mercy to us.
[25:40] But he dwells, he does indeed. Why, some might say, he doesn't seem to dwell in my heart. I'm so full of evil. Well, let's get this right.
[25:52] He never did dwell in the heart of man, the old man of sin. He never will. We're often looking for him to dwell in our wicked hearts, you know.
[26:05] That is, in the heart of the old man of sin. I often think of this, and I like to make that divine incline, that God dwells in the new man of grace.
[26:19] The new man has been born again into the spirit. Two divine natures, two separate natures, the divine nature and the human nature, you see.
[26:31] There are the two. I know that's a death. But you'll find this to be true, and you'll know with your habit, if you have a warfare.
[26:42] You've heard me say that before. You'll know, if you have these two natures, by that one particular thing, there'll be a warfare. For the old man of the dear poetess, struggles hard to gain the conquest over grace, and often seems to win the field where Jesus hides his face.
[27:06] So he dwells in the new man of grace. And therefore, there will be, and is, a warfare.
[27:20] And you know, it wasn't long before our Savior came into these battles with the powers of darkness. Oh, yes.
[27:32] How you see this light shone in the darkness, and how he came, he did indeed. And when he came into those powers, as he grew in years, he came against those thieves, as a war against him.
[27:55] And if you have a true religion, you will find a daily warfare. And the only peace you'll know is that peace that comes through the peace that our dear Savior came here on earth.
[28:15] Peace on earth and goodwill toward men was obtained by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ upon the cross that peace on earth toward men is that peace which he obtained for them and gave unto them that they might have peace in their souls and that they might have peace before God.
[28:48] Not of peace that they made with God, oh no, but of peace that Christ made on their behalf with the Father that they might one day enter into an eternal peace.
[29:08] So that this peace honor toward men is the peace that he obtained toward men that is to say toward those whom he had eternally and everlasting be saved in the covenant.
[29:25] That's the peace. Why, my friends, you see, that's how many I believe are led astray. We like to try and take the stumbling blocks out of the way.
[29:37] Many are led astray, you see, when from the beginning there's been wars and rumors of wars and God says there shall be these things and yet they say the word is contradictory because it says there shall peace on earth and good will to all men.
[29:57] Well, this is the peace spoken of here, the peace that passes all understanding, the peace that God gave through his dear son as he came here on earth toward his people, toward those who were chosen his elect and none others however men may try to twist it or covel at it or however they may indeed cast it aside and hate those who declare it and love it and believe in it and know they have no hope of eternity without it.
[30:42] So then it is that peace which he obtained are that is spoken of there where he said peace on earth and then good will toward men is good will toward them is are that he will be with them through life duly through with them be with them through the valley of the shadow of death and be with them in eternity forever and ever oh what a when these things are opened up to us how it divides and cuts us unto all those things which are so mysterious to man until they are shown us in the world and they are made to wash our meat and our drink oh my friend do you know what it is to have his good will in your heart his good will towards you the chiefness of sinners the violence of sinners so undeserving that he should come and his good will that will that was made known in the covenant should be towards you why what did you how did you merit it
[32:10] I say what have you done to merit it and why was it that it should be cast upon you while another should be cast aside how true how blessedly true yet very solemn to cause us to tremble and yet rejoice when he says in the word two should be sleeping in one bed one should be taken the other left two should be grinding at the mill one should be taken the other left oh my friends these things are close I know but he came he came on this earth for an express purpose for those that the father designed in the eternal covenant to deliver this covenant oh believer stands thy rising fears to quell sealed by thy shorty beating hands in all things order well do you know why I speak of a covenant often is because it's been blessed of me from a child
[33:26] I love to hear about the covenant the covenant of God when I was quite young and those eternal things though they were mysteries to me but I did want to know about them I did long to know something of them I used to hear my dear father speak to his brother my uncle and sometimes to hear their conversation and I loved it but knew nothing about it for I loved to sit and hear and rehearse those things that God had done for them and the things in God's world and how I long to know what they really meant and what was said at those times some might sit on the stairs outside the door and listen I'm not saying that if he prays to me so oh no it was that my princess peculiar drawing to those things even in those days but there were days that
[34:34] I had to remember with great remorse before him but here we have one that came to forgive all our sins all our violence all that we have been here we have indeed and he does not throw these things in our face oh no you've never reason where God ever came and accused any of those things though he knew it all Satan is not accuser and he will he will come and he will heap up mountains before you of your sins through life in your youth and the falls you may have had and he will say you expect yourself going to heaven you never will you know all those kind of things why what had in the past week he eats these things up before us but he doesn't tell us the word was made flesh and dwell among us he doesn't come and tell us those glorious truths he doesn't tell us that Jesus came on the earth to save sinners and that there's any hope oh no but he'll do all those things he can like he did when our dear
[36:12] Savior came on earth sought to destroy him right from the very full he did his deeds having put it into the heart of the wicked king to go forth and slay all those male children from two years old and so how you see it was in the heart of Satan to destroy even if it were possible our dear Savior but you see how all those things were thwarted and overthrown and how Christ was preserved he was indeed why was he preserved because he was almighty God and because he had come to accomplish the full work of salvation and when he said upon the cross it is finished the work was complete it was indeed nothing to be added to it or taken away though men are endeavouring to do it they are indeed what a terrible solemn day we live in do we not when our dear
[37:39] Savior is set nought in blasphemed with awful blasphemy as we see it around us not to dwell on that but you can all see it as you go into this earth especially at this time of the year the awful blasphemy of our dear Savior when you and I desire to worship him as we have been recorded in the world not as man's mind might be lain but all we see it by precious faith as that one that was a living child and one too that was born in Bethlehem born to be king of Israel or how this was hidden from the wise and prudent of his day how they thought that he was coming to reign on earth over the
[38:45] Israel over his people but you see he came unto his own and his own nation and came unto his own and his own received him not he didn't come to be king over Israel on earth though King Herod feared but he came to be king over the spiritual Israel oh what a mercy if he's our king if he's our king where unto we may come and then if he's our king well then we must be a citizen of his nation yes oh what a mercy it is to have some humble hope that he is our king that we might come and worship him as such isn't it a wonderful thing you see we take in our land here we are not allowed to come into the presence of our queen are we and to pay any respect to her as personally before but here we might come into the immediate presence of our king we may come even unto his seat where he reigns and rules we may indeed how may we come we may come by prayer and supplication even unto him come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden
[40:30] I'll give you rest so that we are favoured in to come and worship him by the dwarfs by the cause of his eternal love and are favoured to worship him as the king of kings and lord of lords who rule and reign both in heaven and among the inhabitants of yours and who dare say unto him what do is that for ye cannot do only those things that are just and right and holy well if thou don't is the one whom we desire to worship to adore and to bless yea even to be favoured with our sinful tongues to sing praise unto him and we behold his glory as the glory of the only begotten of the fathers well as a marvellous being that faith beholds his glory beholds him enthroned in highest bliss and not only as we behold his glory as he was the king of glory when born here on earth and then to behold him in his glory when await here on earth as he was you see we read in Isaiah that as he said he should stain all his raiment there you see him in his glory when he came here on earth and offered up himself a living sacrifice for sin there we see him in his glory all the glorious power the untarrenable power of his sacrifice that sacrifice that would have never taken place had he not been born here on earth as I said before this morning he was all embodied in his life so that his birth was the prelude to his crucifixion so that through his birth and his crucifixion his people have an eternal and everlasting inheritance which shall never fade away while the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory as the only begotten of the father his only son oh how the love of the father was so great that he sent his only son to become the propitiation of our sins and to deliver us our tromps sins and to and then to go and prepare a place for us as I go to prepare a place for you that where
[44:22] I am there you may be also oh what an unspeakable mercy he's preparing a place for you and I and others know soon how he may come to take us to himself but if he's preparing a place for us we shall be holding in all his glory yes though there is a beholding him by faith here in his glory yet there will be one day we hope of beholding him in his glory here to the fool human thought nor human tongue cannot enter into the depth what he shall be hereafter earth for we read in the word it doesn't that we know not what we shall be but we know we shall be like him or that be sufficient now when they came and asked him here on earth with regards to to regards marriage in heaven or how widely asked is there neither married nor given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven we shall want no earthly thing of air sinner surely if we don't want them healed we shan't want them in heaven why there will be no relationship to air sinner no there will be that eternal everlasting joy and peace that peace which he came to obtain for a year on earth peace on earth and goodwill toward men will be now there to the full that peace everlasting peace and joy throughout the conversation of eternity and his will fulfill to every iota to warn his people shall be known throughout the conversation of eternity peace on earth and goodwill toward men shall never end i feel throughout the conversation of eternity when it resound to its fullness in the fullness of joy as we enter into we hope and trust an eternal rest well i don't always feel on this ground but there are times when for a few moments the things of earth are silenced and we are drawn away from present things and those things that are around us to those things that are immortal those things that are eternal those things that can never change or decay when all things else perish well may you and
[47:34] I have some interest in these glorious things and may you and I have still more meditation upon us and that we may enjoy that peace as which the world know not all nor ever will unless gracious and not where none will ever know only those who know is peace here on earth and know is peace they will indeed throughout the count of the age of eternity well I feel I've only touched upon the fringe of these depths for as I said at the beginning none can enter into the depth of them to the full until we enter into it more fully when we come in heaven above by the Lord and his message please be loved not to go above s forward to him to bana
