[0:00] I am the Lord to be our help of this afternoon. Call your attention to the time where we endeavor to speak on this morning to a part in the fifth chapter of the first epistle of Peter, verses 6 and 7.

[0:18] Verses 6 and 7 of chapter 5, first epistle of Peter. Hold yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exhort you in due time, casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you.

[0:48] We spoke of the natural pride of the heart of man. And we spoke of that humility, that submission to the will of God given to his children, and by his grace.

[1:07] And we said that the rebellious prayer to our land, to tell me as we are brought into submission, and before the Lord, into that humble place, that we receive that blessing, that blessing which maketh rich, and addeth no sorrow thereto.

[1:36] The Lord, Jesus Christ, when here on the earth, in speaking to his disciples, to his disciples, we read in one place, that he set a little child in the midst of them, and he said, unless ye be converted and humble yourself even as this little child he shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

[2:17] You know, Christ shall never enter into that holy place. The good man and the wise man in the proverbs, he says, these six things that the Lord hates.

[2:38] The first one is a prayer book. Pride is faithful to our God. You will ever say is loved by our God.

[2:53] For God resisteth the prayer and giveth grace to the humble yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God that he may exhort you in new time, casting all your care upon him for he careth for you.

[3:20] Now this speaks of dependence. Thine old dependence on me picks and venture to be north.

[3:38] And God will have all the heart of his own dear people. And you know, the end of the work of the Lord in the hearts of his children is to make the dependence upon him.

[3:54] and many of us have to learn the same lesson time and time again. Many of us are brought into trouble because we are poor scholars.

[4:08] You know what the scholars in the school of Christ shall learn. And that which they shall learn is dependence. He will have his people to be dependent upon him, casting all your care upon him, for he careeth for you.

[4:31] And we read in the psalm, you know, in that psalm 37, the psalmist, he says, threateneth thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against thy work of any person.

[4:50] Who is the child of our books round and he sees the wicked. David saw the wicked spreading himself as a green-baked tree.

[5:01] Oh, it seems that the children of God are forgotten at times. Oh, shall they need always be forgotten before it seems as though the wicked go on in their endeavours.

[5:18] Oh, they seek not God they have not at the throne of grace the way they shall go and they go forth in all their blaspheme our work for one him.

[5:31] Oh, the eyes stand out in fatness, riches, blaspheme for the name of the Lord they went and they seemed to prosper.

[5:44] But you know, David saw the end of them, for they shall soon be cut down. All you young people in the world today, there is much to draw you aside, there is much to make you question religion, question even whether there's a God or fret not thyself because of evil in us.

[6:12] Neither be no envious against the work of the living for they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither as the green herb all trust in the Lord and do good.

[6:25] This is a sweet psalm, this psalm 37, is it not? Full of good instruction or casting all your care upon him for he care of you.

[6:44] We find Solomon in the canticles who is this that cometh up out of the wilderness laying in the unheard below that's the church of Christ.

[6:59] It's the church of Jesus Christ. You know the world they have their portion in this life. But a little that a righteous man have is better than the riches of many men.

[7:18] For this is a good word casting all all your care upon him for he care for you.

[7:29] Blessed truth cast each head thy care on me. Tis enough that I am mine. I will all thy burden be.

[7:43] I will all need to love. Sweet truth casting all your care upon him for he careth for you.

[7:57] For the wicked in the wicked in the time of trouble many often they say I have to cry.

[8:08] I have to cry. I heard them say it. Those that know not God. But you know they never have access. They never have access to the foal of grace. They never manage to cast their care upon God and as soon as the trouble go they forget God.

[8:26] This is the way of the Lord the Lord shall deal with them to make them dependent upon him.

[8:38] God will not stand for independence in his people. Paul will bring his children to be totally dependent upon him.

[8:51] Oh there may have to have many odd lessons in the way as the Lord teaches it them by his blessed spirit. You know Peter and we have Peter in his independence he says though all men deny thee I will not deny thee.

[9:13] Oh he says I will go with thee both to prison and to death. That was independent Peter. Peter went out and wept in time.

[9:29] Oh that was one of the lessons he had to learn that he couldn't trust himself. No I thought I wanted to realize with you dear child of God that if the slave could be clean at this moment before you leave the chapel today you would send yourself in the hell oh yes if you were left to yourself and the child of God is brought to be dependent casting all your care upon him and you know all of us have cares all of us have cares it is true what we read in the word of God that man is born to trouble as they sparks fly up and if any there's none like the

[10:31] Lord dear people for appealing their need if we look into the prophecy of Zephaniah we find we find the Lord speaking through the coffers of his own dear people he says and in that day thou shalt that gospel day in that day shalt thou not be ashamed of thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me for then I will take away out of the midst of thee then rejoice in thy kind and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain

[11:34] I will also leave in the midst of thee an affected and poor people leave in the midst of thee an affected and poor people and they shall trust in the name of the Lord and the remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity and nor speak lies neither shall have a sin or be found in their mouth for they shall feed and lie down and not shall make them afraid and so we see the Lord's people are poor and neither and don't you know it he says I am poor and do you not feel yourself to be a child of God to be poor and mean or you feel yourself to be without power you have not that strength to perform those things that you would do those cares in providence that come into your path order those things you have to take to a throne of

[12:51] Christ you have to apply for your children oh that's a care is it not you parents your children you have to pray that the Lord will give them Christ you have to pray for providential things but you know there is one thing you will have to pray for if you're a child of God there will be one care which will be heavy upon you and that will be your soul casting all your care upon him for he care for you it's a wonderful word that for he care for you you say what for sinners what for such a one as

[13:52] I feel myself to be oh yes the Lord cares to me my mind goes to the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ when he has stayed here upon him all he says in his teaching he said are not too slow soul for the father yet one cannot afford to be found without your father's deed and are ye not of more value than many spouse for all the very areas of your head and all numbers this is our heart all he says to me lives and fear she have laid her they spin not nor toil yet their heavenly father clothes them in better clothes than

[15:00] Solomon ever had in all his glory you know the lord careth careth for his casting all your care upon him for he careth for you the care of our god was shown forth for his own living humbly before the world or before they had a big end he cared for for God so loved him that he gave his own life a begotten son and whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life now this sets forth the care of our lives David had a wonderful insight into it as he penned

[16:00] Psalm 139 a blessed psalm of David we find in writing God she says I will praise thee for I am fearfully and wonderfully made marvelous are my works and that my soul knoweth right well my substance was not hid from thee when I was made in secret and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth thine eyes did see my substance yet being unperfect and in thy book all my members were written which in continuance were fashioned when as yet as I precious also are thy thoughts and from the other God how great the Son of them this is the care of

[17:05] God for his people he knew them he put their names in the Lamb's Book of life before the world were made this is the care he has for his own living power and he put them into the hands of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ into his beloved son to come and to save them from their sins to redeem them from all that he put oh he says this people am my fault my son they shall show forth my praise cast them all your care upon him for he cared for the psalmist in one place speaking of the

[18:05] Lord God he has such a desire that this God might be he said this God is out and shall be out even unto death or this is the God whereby the Father loves his own living life there is portion there is portion does you wonder that the Lord people are his portion for he cared you casting all your care upon him for he cared you as the Lord so told you that you feel to have nothing in of your life to you to that place of bankruptcy as he brought you your great need to call it his face as he made you to realize that there is nothing you can do in and of yourself to save your soul as he made you feel your dependence upon him as he pointed out the way of salvation through the precious blood of

[19:41] Jesus Christ and sorrow that you have to come before him day by day as a poor needy sop here feeling that you cannot walk one without the Lord you are a child of God he brought you we will though you may be young in the worry you are learning those lessons or you are learning those lessons you are the saints when you look at the young one sometimes you tend to criticize my life but you know it's line upon line it's precept upon precept it's here before and there before and that wheeling that wheeling away from the world that bringing into the kingdom of his son you know this doesn't take place in experience in a moment but the experience of a child of

[20:58] God is ever tending to dependence to dependence oh you would like to come and bring your soul down by hand oh place your soul into the hand of your God oh it will be all prayer morning by my name Lord oh take this soul of mine into thy gracious keep me body and soul is the Lord oh bless me I pray and bring me into that dependence upon oh is that your prayer is that your prayer casting all your care upon him for he care for your people and to be so sinful so sinful you know the truth when the the writer says

[22:07] God is a lost condition works cannot work be the mission nor my goodness do thee good death within all of it but the remedies within everything see it in a saving sense or you'll find the psalmist cleaning wash and I shall be whiter than snow or is this not your care dear child of God casting all your care upon him for he care in you we find in vain I think it in the proverbs we find the wise man speaking of those things that they live upon the earth but are exceeding wise

[23:13] I think we find that in the book of the proverbs in chapter 30 there be poor things which are little upon the earth but they are exceeding wise and these poor things you know are despised by men they are little in the sight of man and so is a child of God and they are little also in their own eyes but they are exceeding wise the conas are but a feeble hope he says yet might lay their houses in the lives now there's a great truth there's a great depth you know in the words of song in these proverbs all the conas are but a feeble hope they're but a feeble hope they know they're good this this is the wisdom of the conas that they know their people it's in that knowledge that they are dependents and you know this is the wisdom of a child of

[24:28] God as the Lord by his spirit teaches them their dependence or that they cannot move one step without them or what did the wisdom cause to do and they their houses in the rock all they in those coles and there about oh turn me to the stronghold ye prisoners of home oh turn me to the stronghold all this is a place of care the world as you walk through the village you know how do you get you'll find the cares increase all the cares increase it's a weary man it's a weary man but the Lord said a man shall be a hiding be a cover from the storm shall be as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land oh do do you have to day by day fly to that rock oh as you bear every heat and the burden of the day you have to go to a clothe place and say

[25:50] Lord I cannot keep myself from mine oh here are my burdens here are my cares these are the things that do so trouble me oh bear now my burdens and the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ he said come unto me all ye that lay and are every lane and I will give you rest and don't free offer me now don't free offer of the gospel that speaks to characters and the gospel does speak to characters oh come unto me all ye that lay her and are every lane you or every laden with your sins and your own insufficiency oh rock of ages you say let me let me hide myself in them or let the water and the blood from thy river inside which clothed thee of sin the double cure oh you want a double cure cleanse me promise guilt and cry or there was a time when maybe your sins wanted you or you have revert

[27:13] God to my end but now it's your inability to do anything right or your inability to walk in the ways of the Lord your felt leanness your far off condition is a great care and have to call and say Lord quicken me oh could you into life oh do quicken me and I will call upon my name you bless me with thy presence casting all your care upon him for he cares for you he cares for you the apostle Peter he said wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing as unto a faithful creator blessed portion is my portion of my

[28:14] Lord's own living power you know Biden came to curse but he couldn't curse not the Lord's living power you know Satan would love to curse the Lord's living power God for he cared for you or as he looked down and he saw the providing for how he had to bless him how he had to bless him and my mind goes to that word Moses as he blessed the Lord's own children before he died he says there is no light unto the God of Jeshurun or rideth upon the heaven in thy health and in his excellency of the sky the eternal

[29:17] God is thy refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms and he shall cross out the enemy from before thee and shall say destroy them Israel then shall dwell safely alone the counten of Jacob shall be upon the land of corn and wine or so his heaven shall drop down to you happy are thou Israel happy are thou Israel who is like unto thee old people saved by the Lord the shield of thy health and who is the sword of thy excellency and thy enemies shall be found liars unto thee and thou shalt tread upon their high places hast taken all your care upon him for he care of you what a mercy

[30:20] I say it is to have such a God one who knows the end from the beginning one who is omniscient the omniscient God who sees the end from the beginning you know this is a great contract to the Lord that he found he knows all things that shall happen be iron and nothing can according to your pathway without the Lord being there and you know as the Lord has led you the way he is leading you then he has commented to give you that strength who he says thy shoes shall be higher than us and as thy days so shall thy strength be or what a mercy that we have such a dog to go to he will raise upon us the cross also gives us the strength to bear it this is a blessedness but he says

[31:36] I will be inquired of by the house of his to do these things for yes he will be quiet on by the house of his way casting all your care upon him for he care for you or you say if ever my soul be same then Christ must be saved and this is the one revelation this is where the bird is this is the only place of real standing as we are killed cast upon Jesus Christ for time and for eternity there's no sacrifice all the apostles who will heal the deceitfulness of his own heart so he says casting all your care upon you there's nothing too small to bring to the

[32:39] Lord and there's nothing too large he says thy life's minutest circumstance is subject to thine eye oh now you're right minutest circumstance and the writer says there are coming to a king large petition even for his love and power such none can ever last and this is our God God oh this is the God of Israel is he not God have you found that sweet access at a throne of rights do you know what it is to cast all your care upon it all the cares that come in your path all those things which cause you trouble you have to bring them to it there you have to lay them there you have to be all blessed blessed

[33:42] Christ oh one says if God be for us then who can be against us casting all your care upon him for he cared you we haven't had time to go into the different cares how can remember them there is the care of the soul which lies chief and there is one great enemy in the path that they loves people that causes them much concern much care well shall it be in the swellings of you know I've often looked at my children as they were born as they were in veins

[34:43] I have rejoiced and I trust being thankful for the Lord's mercy given in these children but you know the one thought has been with me each time they're going to die they're going to die and this if you're a child of God will be a concern to you you know at the weekend there's no bands in there there no bands in there there is in the death of the child of God but the psalmist in that psalm we read I noticed this as I read it in that psalm 30 he says mark the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace and that's a blessing word mark the perfect man weary man in the word of God you can read woman mark the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace and who is the perfect man and who is the upright but I'll tell you who the perfect man is and the perfect woman is the one that leads upon

[36:10] Jesus that's perfection that's perfection that one who has no confidence in the flesh that one who commits all to the Lord and Son of Jesus Christ that leads upon them that one who feels that their unrighteousness is as healthy legs the apostle Paul was one his unrighteousness was as healthy legs he could leave there oh that was an arm of flesh oh that was that which would give way but the perfect man is that one who commits all things for the Lord commits the keeping of his soul commits all things I say to his hand relies upon his righteousness all that I might be found in him not having my own righteousness which is as filthy legs but being old in his glorious righteousness oh casting all your care for him for he careeth you oh if you're in trouble dear child of the heart if you mean that all these things are against you listen to this casting all your care upon it and you take him to the throne of life and you can be fit to him you know all these things all these crosses that that lie that lie on the door are sent they from home and they sent they for life and home

[37:57] I'll tell you this that the hymn writer knew something when he penned those lines if I can repeat them they lash escaped on the legs and softened in his blood oh yes if you're a child of God all be not regardless or humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that he might exhort you in due time casting all your care upon him for he cares for you and you know the error of an article of death cast your care upon him cast your care upon him mark the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace he says but the salvation of the righteous is of the

[39:08] Lord he is their strength in the time of trouble and the Lord shall help them and deliver them he shall deliver them from the wicked and save them why because they trusted him because they trusted him commit thy way unto the Lord trust also in him that he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the right and thy judgment as the ruler man oh you know the apostle Paul actually did he know oh he actually God there was that that came into his path you know that he besought the Lord three times that he would reward but he says my grace is sufficient for me my strength is made perfect in weakness for he put in that he said when

[40:15] I am weak then I strong and haven't you had to prove it child of God I'm sure you have I'm sure you I am you know my times of greatest trouble my times of greatest weakness when I have been forced to the throne of creation I've had to tell the Lord all about it I've had to cast it all upon him those that have been the times of bless all their precious times times I can look back upon and say yes Lord was my strength the Lord that helped me he that helped me he that will help me all my journey through all that each of us might be brought there as dependents dependent upon him following the Lord looking to Jesus Christ and his righteousness having no confidence in the flesh this is the place of dependence but you know we can do with ourselves then we fall then we fall and we have to prove it day by day may the

[41:31] Lord so bless us and be with us and be with you dear people here and make you depend who is this that cometh up from the wilderness leaning upon her beloved it's the church of Jesus Christ this time my world but love never gone my Lord and his blessing Amen
