[5:11] The word that I trust the Lord has laid upon my spirit to bring before you this morning is found in the chapter that we read, The 26th chapter in the Acts of the Apostles, And the first part of verse 22.

[5:34] The Acts of the Apostles, chapter 26, verse 22, the first part. Having, therefore, obtained help of God, I continue unto this day.

[5:56] Firstly then, Are there any here that Cannot say that they have not Obtained help of God In their path, In their journey here below?

[6:15] In providence, But oh, especially in your soul. Your soul's experience to know what it is for the Lord, To bring you to a right realization Of your standing Before a holy God.

[6:40] For how do we stand? We must Faithfully bring this before you Firstly, Regarding our standing Before such a holy God.

[6:59] We are nothing. We are truly Sinners. We are those Who are deserving Of death.

[7:14] For the soul that sinneth It shall Surely die. There is the Declaration That is found In the Word And in the Law of God.

[7:31] None Can say that they are holy. None can say that Through their own works, Through their own goodness, They are deserving Of Union With God.

[7:51] With communion with him. If we go back to the beginning, The fall of man, How When sin Entered Into the world There They were shut out From the garden of Eden And what had they known there, Adam and Eve?

[8:11] What had they known in the garden of Eden? They had known what it was For God To walk And to commune with them. But oh, Do we see his wondrous mercy And his goodness Unto sinners.

[8:30] See in our own pathway In What the Lord Has done for us. Having therefore Obtained help of God.

[8:42] With the evidence then Of the Lord's gracious work In Our soul.

[8:56] Do you desire That this evidence Might be A sealed home Upon yourself? That this truly Is the Lord's work? Now I do believe That with every living child of God This is their constant prayer This is their constant desire Their need That it might be truly The work of the Lord In their soul.

[9:26] Do you have to cry Lord preserve me From vain imaginations From a false hope Give me A true foundation?

[9:45] And it is then Upon my mind Regarding our Subject this morning This Assurance That the Lord Is pleased to give To his people To those souls Who have to cry And when we consider The case of Paul About whom We have read Of his Declaration Before King Agrippa Of what the Lord Had done Before him And yet He had to say O wretched man That I am Who shall deliver me From the body Of this death I thank God Through Christ Jesus There was his hope There was his assurance And there is nothing else That we can rest upon But what do you find What do you find In your soul?

[10:47] Do you find diets? Now some might say That diets Are a great sin Now it has been In my mind In this way That there are Many kinds Of diets But the diets That are found In the experience Of the Lord's people I would term them In this way That it is Their need For a full Assurance In their soul They do not diet The word of God They do not diet Now let's be careful Here there may be Those that Satan Has tempted In this way You diet

[11:47] The work of Christ He may tempt you Greatly in this That you diet The veracity Of the word Of God The truth Of it But all You have to Point to those Things that the Lord has spoken To you And has done For your soul And say to Satan They are to lie Now what you need And what you desire In your soul Is this full Assurance That it is You Your case Your pathway That the Lord Has upheld And brought you Through Brought you Out of darkness Into light It is Your sins That are forgiven This is your need This is your desire

[12:49] Those doubts Then That are Of sin They are those That would cast Diet Upon any part Of the word Of God You see You hear You read Of many things That so called Professors Of religion Bring up They put Their own Interpretation Upon the word Of God What is it You desire Do you desire The true Interpretation Of the Holy Spirit Upon the word Of God As it is Shown Unto you Nothing else There is one Particular point In this 26th Chapter of the Acts That I would Bring before you As what was Shown Unto Paul I heard a voice Speaking Unto me And saying

[13:50] In the Hebrew Tongue It was speaking Unto him He had an Understanding Of it Now in the Second chapter I believe It is of this Same book We have The outpouring Of the Holy Spirit Upon the apostles And they Spake in those Tongues That all Understood Them Now there is Something that Is very much Abroad in this Day and age Of those That have Taken This to Mean that There is The gift Of tongues That is Given Unto Certain Men But what Was spoken Unto Saul He knew Not only What was Spoken To him But it Was into His soul Yes he Had this Assurance That this

[14:51] Was the Lord himself That was Speaking Unto him No Interpretation Of man He was Shown By the Holy Spirit Those Truths That he Thought he Did God's Service when He persecuted Those Saints But oh How he was Turned right Round and How we need To be How we need To be Turned right Round We were Saying Regarding The Interpretation That man Puts Upon the Word of God Let me Ask you This Question Have You Had A Promise Have You Had A Word An Assurance Out of The Word of God That you

[15:53] Have Had to Hold Fast To Now Then If there Is Another Part that We cannot Enter Into Perhaps We cannot Believe As many Men do Say they Cast out Upon the Word of God Where's The hope In the Promise That they May have May have Received I Tell you One Thing Some Might Think That I Am Extreme In This Cast Out One Portion Of The Word Of God And You Cast It All Out Cast Out Upon Upon Any Part Of The Word Of God Where is The hope In anything Else Now there

[16:57] May be Those things That we Do not Understand There may Be those Things That might Seem to Be We have Difficulty That are Contrary That do Not Fit Together What are We Who are We to Put an Interpretation Upon these Things It is The work Of the Holy Spirit To open Our eyes To teach Us and To lead Us into All truth And to Bring all Things to Our Remembrance Of what The Lord Has spoken And of What he Has done Done For his People Therefore Have we This assurance That we Are his That we Are bound Up In this Covenant Of his Grace Let us

[17:59] Then turn Aside from Those Dimes That mere Professors Seem to Delight To bring Up And let Us Consider Those Doubts That we Have And I Turn First of All To Thomas Often Called Doubting Thomas Perhaps Look Look down Up I Look at It in This Way He Wanted In His Soul As May be There are Those Of you Here That Full Assurance Those Things That he Could Speak Of That he Had Tasted Handled And felt Of the Word Of life Those Things That the Lord Had Shown Unto Him And what Did the

[19:00] Lord say I will Come Again We Mentioned In prayer Regarding The Man That was Born Blind The Lord Anointed His Eyes Told Him To Go And Watch And He Came Seeing Now He Believed For He Had The Evidence In His Own Body Of What The Lord Had Done Now Did The Lord Leave Him There Does The Lord Leave His People In The Place Where There Are These Fears There Are These Dines Now He Had Many Accusations He Had Many Trials To Pass Through But Oh He Could Say This One Thing I Know That Whereas I Was Blind And Now I See Blessed

[20:04] Assurance Blessed Evidence And The Lord Came And What Did The Lord Say To Him I Am He I Am He Jesus The Son Of God The Savior Of The World Now I Cannot Believe That It Was Just His Eyes That Were Open In A Natural Way I Must Believe That His Spiritual Eyes Were Open I Do Believe That His Sins Were For For For For The Lord Came Again Unto Him Can We Say That The Lord Has Come Again Unto Us I

[21:07] Believe That You Can But It Is Hidden In Darkness It Is Hidden In Those Trials It Is Hidden In Those Afflictions What Have We Been Singing I Ask The Lord That I Might Grow Perhaps We'll Open Up On To It And Consider Some Of Those Truths That Are Contained There Might Grow In Faith And Love And Every Grace And What Does This Soul Say I Hope That In Some Favoured Hour At Once He Answer My Request And By His Love's Constraining Power Subdue My Sins And Give Me Rest And What Was There There Was Conflict There Was Turmoil There Was Distresses And

[22:10] How Is It In Your Soul What Is The Result What Is The Outcome Of All These Things Does Does It Bring You Down Upon Your Knees Does It Bring You To This Oh You Have To Cry And Cry Unto The Lord That He Would Show Unto You That What He Has Brought You Into Is For Your Souls Good That You Will Be Truly Blessed That There Might Be Profit For Your Soul One Of These Evidences Then Of Life In A Child Of God

[23:10] There Is Prayer But You Say That I Cannot Pray I Seem To Be Prayerless When I Am In Need There I Seem To Be Dead Have You Known What It Is To Cry God Be Merciful To Me A Sinner Lord Help Me That Is Your Constant Cry You Cannot Go Any Further Than That You Have To Cry Continually Unto The Lord That He Might Appear You Feel Your Weakness You Feel Your Insufficiency You Feel Your Great Need But Oh Can You Say This Having Therefore Obtained Help Of God I Continue To This Day Continue Looking Up

[24:10] Unto Him Continue Crying Now In These Thoughts Regarding This Assurance Let Us Consider The Case Of Paul I Believe That All Of Us Here Could Say That Paul Was A Child Of God We Have The Evidence In How The Lord Met With Him We Have The Evidence In His Ministry In His Letters We Have The Evidence That There Were Many That Were Brought To A Saving Knowledge Of Christ Jesus We Have All These Evidences And Have We Those Evidences In Our Soul Truly There Is

[25:11] But What Did Paul Say In A Riding To The Church At Corinth Lest That By Any Means When I Have Preached To Others I Myself Should Be A Cast Away Yes He Had Those Fears Think Think It Not Strange Beloved Friends Child Of God If You Have Those Temptations If You Have Those Fears If You Have Those Dibes That Come Out Of Your Need For A Gracious Assurance In Your Soul Now There Are Some That Might Say Well Is It Right Is It God Honoring

[26:11] That We Should Be Speaking Of These Doubts And Fears I Can Only Speak Out Of Experience Of Those Souls Yes They Have Those Things That They Can Point To What The Lord Has Done But Oh They Are Like A Child They Look Constantly To Their Parents To See That They Are There Especially If They Are In A Strange Place They Have Those Things That Frighten Them They May Be In A Crime They Fear That They Might Get Lost They Put Their Hand In The Hand Of Their Parent They Seek For The Assurance From Them When Perhaps They Are Frightened They Run To

[27:11] Their Parents They Receive Comfort And They Receive Help And It Is With A Child Of God Come Come Come Come To me All Ye That Labor And Are Heavy Laden Did The Lord Give This Blessed Invitation To His People Knowing That They Would Never Need Him Know This Invitation Was Given For He Knew That They Would Be In Great Need Great Soul Need And So They Are Brought To Cast On Him Their Every Care And Oh Can You Can You Say That The Lord Has Not Appeared

[28:12] For You He Has And If He Has Appeared For You In The Little Things Which Do You Have Been Great Mountains Will He Not Appear Unto You In The Greatest Thing Of All The Hour Of Your Death He Who Hath Begun A Good Work Within You Will Surely Perform It Unto The Coming Of Christ Jesus We Spoke Of Paul With That Fear That In Spite Of All Things That He Might Prove A Cast Away Do You Realize

[29:12] That There Is Something That Is So Very Possible That This One Standing Here Bringing Before You Many Truths Out Of The Word Of God This Does Does Does Not Mean That I Am A Child Of God The Evidence That I Stand Here In This Way The Evidence That I Know Certain Truths Out Of The Word Of God The Evidence That The Word Of God Has Been Blessed To Souls This Does Not Mean That I Am A Child Of God We Haven't Recorded In The Word Of God That There Were Those That Prophesied

[30:13] In The Name Of The Lord They Were Not The Lord's People What Is Your Hope What Is Your Resting Place Well Let Us Look At Each One Of You Are You Resting Upon The Fact That You Have Been Brought Up To Come To The House Of God Are You Resting Upon The Fact That You Are Found Here This Morning That You Come To The House Of God Or That You Read The Word Of God That You Say Your Prayers What Did The Lord Say To Those That Were Found Upon The Street Corners They Desired To Be Seen Of Man They Shall Have Their Reward Know Know Know What The Lord Was Bringing For Here Whatever

[31:14] Your Path Whatever Your State Whether You Are A Member Of The Church In The Diaconate Upon The Walls Of Zion Whatever You May Do There Is Only One Thing That You Can Rest Upon One Assurance That The Lord Jesus Christ Died For You Is This Then The Assurance That You Desire Is Your Hope In Christ Jesus And Him Only If It Is What A Blessed Hope What A Full Assurance To Return To The Case Of Thomas

[32:14] When The Lord Appeared To Him What Could He Say My Lord And My God Mary Weeping At The Sepulchre Her Eyes Were Held That She Could Not See Him She She She She She Knew Not It Was One Who Her Soul Longed And Desired After There She Was Weeping There Was The Empty Tomb Tell Tell Tell me Where Thou Has Placed Him Taken Him Where He Is My Lord My Hope For The Lord Had Done Great Things For Her What Was Her Case Who Was She She Was A Sinner A Saved Sinner

[33:14] Saved By Sovereign Grace And What Did The Lord Say Unto Her One Word Blessed Word She Was Called By Name The Name That Is Written In The Foreheads Of His People Thou Art Mine That One Word That Was Spoken To Her Mary And What Did That Word Say Thou Art Mine I Have Loved Thee With An Ever Lasting Love Therefore With Loving Kindness Have I Drawn Thee Go In Peace Thy Sins Are All Forgiven Thee As Those That Are Spoken Of In The Songs Of Solomon I Sought Him Whom My Soul Loveth

[34:14] I Sought Him But I Find Him Not Yes Those Souls Who Desire Assurance The Evidence Within That a Work of Grace Is Begun They Can Find No Rest Except In Christ Jesus And Where Do They Find This Rest It Is Leaning Upon Their Beloved Who Is This That Cometh Up Out Of The Wildness Leaning Upon Her Beloved It Is The One That Has Been Bought With A Prize The Price Of His Own Blood Well Then As We Journey On What Do We Find Our Great Need To Lean Only Upon

[35:14] Our Beloved Now The Exhortation That Was Given And Is Given To The Lord's People And This Is What They Must Walk In What They Must Take Upon Themselves What The Lord Is Pleased To Grant Unto Them And That Is Their Great Need Of The Lord To Appear Finally My Brethren Be Strong In The Lord And In The Power Of His Might Having Therefore Having Therefore Obtained Help Of God I Continue Unto This Day Not Help Of Man Not Help Of The Flesh No Prop That We Can Rest Upon That Is Made Of Man Will Hold Us Up In

[36:15] That Hour Of Great Temptation And It Will Definitely Not Hold Us In The Hour Of Death But There Is One Thing And One Thing Only That Will Hold Up The Lord's People And That Is One That Has Gone Before Them Their Great High Priest That Is Passed Into The Heavens Even Jesus The Son Of God Who Was Tempted In All Points Like As We Are Yet Without Sin He Knoweth Our Frame He Remember That We Are Dized He Knoweth Our Need We Are Speaking Of Doubt Those Temptations That Come In You Might Say What What A Great Sin

[37:15] Those Doubts Are Can The Lord Jesus Christ The Son Of God Been Tempted In Those Ways Tempted In All Points Like As We Are Yet Without Sin There Is One That Is Gone Before His People Trod In The Path It Is The King's Highway That They Are Finding What Must They Take Then Upon Themselves Put On The Whole Armor Of God That She May Be Able To Stand Against The Wiles Of The Devil When This Sixth Chapter Then Of Paul's Epistle To The Church At Ephesus This Exhortation And You Know Your Need Of It For We Wrestle Not Against Flesh And Blood But Against Principalities Against Powers Against The Rulers

[38:16] Of The Darkness Of This World Against Spiritual Wickedness In High Places Something That Is To Be Found On Every Hand In Our Day And Age But All This Encouragement Then To Take Unto You The Whole Armor Of God That You May Be Able To Withstand In The Evil Day And Having Done All To Stand Now There Are These Illustrations Given Stand Therefore Having Your Loins Gertibate With Truth There Is A Standing Firm In The Truth And For The Truth So You Have To Stand Because Of That Need Of Assurance You Have To Stand Those That Need No Assurance

[39:16] Those That Are Resting Upon Their Own Strength They Sit Back They Say What Do We Need Oh But You You Need The Lord To Appear For You In All Things You Need Him To Uphold You To Strengthen You To Maintain You To Keep You For You Cannot Keep Yourself Your Loins Girt About With Truth Having On The Breast Plate Of Righteousness Your Feet Shod With The Preparation Of The Gospel Of Peace Above All Taking The Shield Of Faith Wherewith Ye Should Be Able To Quench All The Fiery Dance Of The Wicked Take The Helmet Of Salvation The Sword Of The Spirit Which Is The Word Of God Praying Always With All Prayer And Supplication In The Spirit And So Paul Comes To This Conclusion Those

[40:18] Souls Must In Christ Jesus But You Say I Am Without All These Things Who Has Brought You Through To This Time Who Has Upheld You Who Has Maintained You It's Not Yourself It's Not Man It's Been The Lord's Work In And Through Everything You Have These Evidences Remember Now All The Way Which The Lord Thy God Hath Led The These Many Years Through The Wildness He's Led You He's Brought You Through To This Time He Has Appeared For You Time And Time Again Therefore Having Obtained Help Of God And Not Of Man

[41:18] We Continue Unto This Day How do You Think It is With This One That Is Found Before You Is There Anything Special Is There Anything Different About A Minister Of The Gospel There Is Not There Is One Thing That I Have Been Often Very Thankful For The Accusation Against The Lord Jesus Christ Behold He Eateth With Publicans And Sinners Oh Does This Give You Some Hope He Eateth With Publicans

[42:18] And Sinners There You Can Say You Can Come In With This You Could Not Come In With The Prayers And The Supplications Taken Upon All Those Things That We Have Read The Helmet The Shield You Can Come In With This I Am A Sinner And The Lord Jesus Christ Came That He Might Call And Save Sinners Not The Righteous Sinners To Repentance There You Can Come In But We Must Quickly Go On

[43:18] Having Therefore Obtained Help Of God I Continue Unto This Day Right You Have You Have That Trial In Providence In Your Circumstance In Your Home In Your Life Whatever It Might Be And You Know Not What To Do Have You Cried Unto The Lord I Think Of Those Younger In Years You Have Those Troubles At School Whatever It Might Be You Know What It Is To Pray For Help Lord Help Me You Have Known What It Is For The Lord To Appear Know With Any Of Us I Trust That We Can Say That The Lord Has Appeared For Us In Times Past And We Know

[44:19] Not What To Do What Did The Lord Say To His People Of Old The Battle Is Not Yours You Should Not Need To Fight In This Battle And Oh How The Lord Appeared In Such A Way And The Lord's People Throughout The Ages Have Had This Assurance This Evidence That It Is The Lord That Has Appeared For Them Perfectly Perfectly Appeared For Them There's Not Only Been Deliverance But There's Been Those Things That Have Come Out Of It I Think Of How Gideon Was Raised Up He Found Himself To Be Poor The Least Amongst His Brethren His

[45:19] Family Was Poor What Could He Do Who Was He That He Should Lead The Lord Chosen Against Their Enemies And The Lord Showed To Him He Asked For A Sign A Double Sign It Was Granted To Him In Such A Way That He Could See That This Was From The Lord But More Than This In The Deliverance The Great Army That Was Gathered Together It Was Brought Down To Just Those Few And Then They Did Not Need To Find No The Lord Drove Away Their Enemies It Was The Lord's Doing So Then In Our Providential Pathway We Have Those Signs We Have Those Tokens Those

[46:19] Assurances Those Evidences That This Has Been The Lord's Work And We Have To Continue Now Looking Unto The Lord That He Will Appear But My Greatest Concern Is In Our Spiritual Pathway Having Therefore Obtained Help Of God I Continue Unto This Day Now What Was Spoken At The End Of This Chapter Regarding Pool This Man Might Have Been Set At Liberty If He Had Not Appealed Unto Caesar Have You Looked At Your Path And Have Often Said If This Or That Had Not Happened It Would Have Been Well Now

[47:21] There Was Much Blessing To Flow Forth From Paul's Imprisonment And From His Sufferings There Was Much Good It Was In The Lord's Sovereign Purposes In His Hand Can You Not Then Trust Hope And Believe That What You Are Passing Through That It Is The Lord's Goodness Being Shown Unto You For The Good Of Your Soul To Establish This Faith Within To Set Your Feet Firm Upon The Rock Christ Jesus What Was Said Regarding One Before I Was Afflicted I Went

[48:21] Astray You Know What It Is To Have Those Afflictions In Your Soul We Spoke Of Prayerlessness We Spoke Of Those Doubs Those Fears That Rise Up Oh How It Brought You To Cry How It Was For Your Eternal Good How There Was Blessing That Came Out Of It So Now You Seem To Go On Day By Day Trusting Looking That The Lord Will Graciously Appear For You Have Obtained Hell You Have The Witness Of It You Cannot Get Away From It It's Been The Lord's Work Oh How Wondrous This Is One Further Thing To Give You A Little Hope In This Have You Known What It Is

[49:21] For Your Pastor For One Of The Lord's Servants To Have Been Led To Speak In A Certain Way And It's Entered Right Into Your Path And Into Your Experience They've Known Nothing About It You've Seen That It Is The Lord's Work Perhaps You've Been Tempted That Someone Has Told Them They Have Known Nothing About Your Latest Trials Something That Is Right In Your Soul That Has Been Between You And Your God It's Been Brought Out The Lord Has Spoken To Your Soul Yes You Have Obtained Help Of The Lord And So You Come Again And Again To The House Of God Desiring That There Might Be A Portion For Your Soul Hungry Thirsty Souls They Do Not Go Unfaid They

[55:24] Many here that have felt discouraged, have felt thence that they have come to the end, that they cannot continue.

[55:40] But, O Lord, may they be enabled to say, having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, and they will have to go on in the strength of the Lord, for they have no strength in and of themselves.

[56:00] O, we ask for thy forgiveness, Lord, upon all that thy pure eyes have seen in this. O, may we have a spirit of prayer and exercise for the rest of thy day, in the Sabbath school this afternoon, and for the service this evening, and wherever thy holy name is brought forth and thy word is proclaimed, O, do help thy servants.

[56:29] And now may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, with the love of God the Father, with the fellowship and sweet communion of the Holy Spirit, rest and abide with us each.
