Song of Solomon

[0:00] The Lord may graciously help us, I would ask you to turn into the Song of Solomon, as my thoughts have been directed to a portion in the third chapter, the first four verses.

[0:26] The Song of Solomon, chapter 3, verses 1-4. By night on my bed I sought him whom I sought other.

[0:45] I sought him, but I came in. I will rise now and go about the city and the street, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom I saw love.

[1:02] I sought him, but I found him not.

[1:36] The chamber of her that conceived me. Song of Solomon, chapter 3, verses 1-4. It has been laid upon my spirit during the night hours, that this is a portion I am to venture with.

[1:54] May the Lord make a blessing to us and grant the seal of his approbation upon it, in that it may find an abiding place in the heart of a seeking world, and be made a comfort to a troubled one.

[2:11] And Lord, it might be made an assurance to those who burnishly did not, to know their part of God amongst the family of God.

[2:25] You might say, well, what connection has this with the letter we have read from the 16th of Matthew?

[2:37] Well, it was that verse in the 16th of Matthew that directed my heart and my thoughts to this point. So we will just notice very briefly how this word God is pleased to use.

[2:55] We read in the 16th of Matthew that great question, which Jesus, the Son of God, the Lord of life and glory, this Jesus, this same Jesus, is the same to die.

[3:14] He ever was the same, ever will be the same. Speak. He asks this question still. Who do men say, the die, the Son of Man?

[3:31] That is one question. And it's a question that has many answers as we have read in the Word. Some said this and some said that.

[3:42] Some said it to the lawyers, some John the Baptist. But none of them were right. They had not the answer with the spirit with them.

[3:58] He said unto them, and this is to his disciples that loved him, who had left you all to follow him. He said unto them, but whom say ye that I am?

[4:11] And that's a very close question because it's not answered before men. It's not answered before churches. This is answered before the God of the whole earth, who knows their thoughts upon.

[4:24] And we cannot hide anything from it. And to come with an answer that is a lie will only bring follow on them. But this dear servant of God, Solomon Peter, he had the answer from the spirit of truth within.

[4:46] And therefore, but answer with a sweet assurance, and by precious sight, where is of life?

[4:57] What his religion consisted of? And what he would testify before an ungodly world? Who say ye that I am?

[5:12] Simon Peter answered and said, How? How? How favoured were the disciples in that day, that they had a precious Jesus in their midst visibly.

[5:32] They could look upon him. They could taste of his love. They could witness his loving kindness, his tender mercies. And they did.

[5:43] But there were thousands also that saw him and never knew it. Didn't believe it. Oh, how solemn.

[5:54] When the Lord of life and glory is in the presence of poor sinners, are magnified. Fearing not. And yet find no joy in it either.

[6:06] But the apostle here could answer from his heart, There art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

[6:19] And beloved friends, that's got to be an answer, if we're right before God. It is to know who we believe. And how can we know it?

[6:32] Jesus gave the answer to Peter, and he gives it to us. Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed are they, Simon.

[6:45] You're blessed because you have received divine instruction, Holy Ghost teaching. Blessed are they, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee.

[7:02] But my Father, which is in heaven. And yet there are those that deny that God is a God of love.

[7:14] And here we have the very manifestation of it. For the love of God, and the love of his Son, Jesus Christ, the sinner, in making known unto them, where their salvation lies, where their hope for heaven lies, in what path they're called to walk, in that heavenly world.

[7:39] My Father, which is in heaven, has revealed this to you. And therefore, your soul is blessed, your body's blessed, your pathway's blessed, and even your suffering will be blessed, Peter.

[7:59] You've got to follow me, in a path, that I, or down, but that path will be blessed. And throughout the reminder of the life of Peter the Apostle, we have the attempt of it.

[8:17] He did suffer for his master's son. He had to endure much persecution for his master's son. But you turn to his epistles, and there you'll find the blessing that flowed as he followed after.

[8:36] Unto you that believe, he is precious. Believe what? That Christ is the Son of the living God.

[8:49] And that is, boy, Christ, who are imparting, the means of assuring your heart and conscience and very soul, that you are a most Christian.

[9:02] His army, his church, and his brother. Now, that, in no few remarks, perhaps you might comprehend some connection with what I've read it is.

[9:20] Because it led me directly from there, in my thoughts, to the language of the church of God, his brother. And it's nowhere more blessingly and clearly set forth than in the hand of Jesus, the Son of the Father.

[9:37] Here we have a very sweet, beautiful, and yet very deep of him, of the dealings of the Son of God, of the Son of God, of the Son of God, of the Son of Jesus, with his beloved God.

[9:52] And of her dealings with him, O, what grace, and mercy, and love, is set forth, in the language, of the book, of the Song of the Son.

[10:06] Some in very deep, some mysterious, some might fun of them, some say it's not right, that it should be there. But the child of God, who has been brought, in this path, the same path that Peter was brought, in this path, will be brought, in God's own time, to acknowledge, that this is their, whole desire, to be found, in this world.

[10:36] Near unto him, to hear his voice, and to mourn over, for their often, apparent, a distance from him.

[10:49] So we must remember, ever, that while we journey, through this, wilderness, we are still, the subject, of that, sin that's, what is in us, that we are undefeated.

[11:04] It brings, carelessness, coldness. It brings, that, which offends, against God, which we need, delivering from. But, blessed be his name, the power is his.

[11:17] The forgiveness, is his. Time, means, mode, and place, are all, according, to his infinite, wisdom, and divine will.

[11:28] But he has given, each one of them, to full compliance, to his will. And also, in full agreement, the dark, how it is testifying, in his holy word of truth.

[11:46] And so, we will try, for a few moments, this morning, to trace out, this secret one. So, who's Peter, one of them?

[11:57] He would not go, to that place, of full assurance, immediately. There is to be, a pathway, of teaching. There have to be, lessons, to be taught, and received.

[12:14] Have we learned, any lessons? Under the Holy Ghost, speech. Has our heart, been moved, or constrained, with a power, beyond ourselves, to bring us, to realize, that there is only, one, one, in which, our souls, might dwell, eternally, in heaven.

[12:39] And Jesus, is that one. And therefore, knowledge of him, is salvation. Ignorance of him, is death.

[12:51] There's no, intermediate, power. Oh, none would have, an intermediate, power to be true. Many seek, to make one.

[13:03] But thou, prove, to be deceived, and all be in vain. I, earn the way, the truth, and the God, said this, blessed Lord.

[13:16] Are not, word, is might, power, in the willing, of his, dear church, his beloved, growing, unto, they seek, this way.

[13:29] We'll just notice, then, one or two thoughts, as we, dear Lord, may open, my understanding, that I'm ignorant to. It's not what man, it's not what we may study.

[13:43] we need, we need, the operation, and power, of the blessed spirit, of truth, to reveal, to us, as clearly, as it was revealed, to Peter, the deep mysteries, that are contained, in the word, of truth.

[14:00] It is described, in the Old Testament, recording, as the, deep, that, caches the need. Do you know, something of that, deep, that caches the need, when you're wondering?

[14:14] Boy, you never saw it before. How you were so, blind, and ignorant, of it before, when, the Lord of Heaven, suddenly, shines upon it, in your soul, and you see, then, the reality, of your need, and the reality, of the provision, for that, Jesus.

[14:36] Holy Christ, blessed be his name, he changes not, therefore, ye sons of Jacob, the family, are not consumed, and that's our mercy, that's what we're here today, with a hope in his mercy, because we're not consumed, who are consumed, who will be consumed, those who know him, and seek not, the knowledge of his wife, and feel no panting, after him, in their immersion.

[15:08] Oh, I want, and I trust you, one, a feeling religion, a one that cannot, sit still, and go to sleep, but must be ever, on the stretch, after, the, knowledge, of the truth.

[15:27] So, let us look then, of the bride here, by night, on my bed, I saw, now she says, it's him, whom I sold, don't they?

[15:40] So, there was a knowledge, imparted, but there was not, that clarity, of vision, there was not, that sweet assurance, felt, that there was a resting, upon him.

[15:52] By night, on my bed, I sought him, whom I sold, I sought him, but I found him. Now, why does it, well, the very indication, of the word, suggests, that, she was, next to him.

[16:16] We're, we take, I go to our bed, when we get tired, we go, to obtain rest, as the Lord, is seated grounded, through sleep. But, there are many, other times, when, through, lack of, spiritual energy, if I'm, put it in that way, we rest, in our bed.

[16:43] Content, that as long, as we feel, moderately, comforted, then that, of which, we sightly, seek after, will be brought, to us.

[16:56] Or, so, came on my bed, a bed, perhaps, of, a bed, of lightning, a bed, of, uh, and to express it, I, no, no, where, we don't feel, the urgency, of our need, to make us, cry for mercy, a bed, or say, is a resting place, and sometimes, we are very thankful, for it, actually.

[17:34] We can never be thankful, for it, spiritually. Not in the, aspect, I'm trying to set, before you, for, uh, it, uh, attunes, that we are caring, and lazy, in spiritual exercise.

[17:52] Well, on her bed, she saw him, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, and so, they could not remain there, there must come, a time of moving, a stirring up, and that's how the Holy Ghost works, with a truth, the gospel, stirs him, we are all left, we are all left, we are all right, I will rise now, and go about the city, in the streets, and in the broad ways, I will see him, whom, my soldier, I sought him, but I found him not, again, why, that many will say, well, surely, if, she went forth, to seek him, with a desire, to see him, whom her soul loved, she would find him, wheresoever she went, there it looks like, a sanctified spot, oh, you got that sanctified spot, in your soul, the spirit, where Jesus met with you, it's a blessed spot, but, it will not be found, in the city, in the streets, it will not be found, in the broad ways, for they are full of deceit, that is the word, the Lord Jesus himself, proclaim, to his disciples, and his hearers, there, there is a word, that saved him, and he will, he can't do it now, but it's a word, many go in there, but they do not find, in the end, they are always dead, so she saw, she rose up, she made the effort, she went to the wrong place, all that we need, to be led about, from this structure, under, sovereign, divine guidance, of an always God, to bring us, to the place, where our soul, may point on the region, and so, there was no, contentment there, she was still, this girl, still seeking, oh, we thank God, for the record, of this word, that it does not say, she was cut off, because she could not, hide it in there,

[20:39] I believe this, it will be many, a disappointment, in that Lord, to the professor, of religion, they think, they may find, perhaps they, say they have found, it, and they lost it, there is nothing, to lay hold of, they have not found, that which Jesus, said unto Peter, the dock, upon which his church, is there, that is not found, in the glory, in the city, in the streets, amongst the world, there is no place, for him there, no desire, after him, they despise, and reject him, and he truly, is a man, that sorrows, and acquainted, with grief, why, because of the sins, of his people, in the broad ways,

[21:44] I will seek him, whom my soul, love it, I saw him, but I found him, not, and so, the soul, is troubled, and weary, now, the bed, has been left, there has been, a stirring up, and going after, but not finding it, can that soul, give up, can a newborn, sinner, give up, can a hungry, thirsty soul, say I'll have no more, of this, I've gone far enough, I'll return, to my bed, the psalm, which says, in the language, expresses this, as the heart, panteth, after the water, so panteth, my soul, after thee, I will not let thee go, except, their blessings, so, we, they have, gave up, the world,

[22:56] I hunger, Lord, and thirst, for thee, says one of our heads, oh, does this, describe your thoughts, then you'll find, no comfort, in the broad ways, or in the world, however, religiously minded, they might be, that they have not, the essence, of your need, Christ Jesus, in the midst, to meet you there, to speak to you there, to satisfy, your longing soul, then you have, to turn away, the watchman family, the go about, the city, family, there were those, who inquired, what are you looking for, why can't you, rest on ten, like so many, phases of others, they have a form, they have a name, to live, why can't you, rest with that, to whom I said, saw ye him, whom I saw, love him, for I can't, find him, the longing, is there, the desire, is there, but I must see him,

[24:14] I must hear his voice, I must know, his heart, and mercy, if I define, the true rest, and contentment, that I long, saw ye him, can you tell me, is this path, a strange path, do you, what is it, a path, in which in some measure, you walk, or walk in there, mercy, if it is, for, says the Lord, God Almighty, as he directs, by his spirit, through his ear, so, I will be, in part of, of the house, of Israel, to do, these things, for, he's watching, he's guiding, you know it not, perhaps, you cannot feel, that hand, upon your shoulders, you cannot, hear that voice, behind you, saying, this is the way, walk your hand, because you're still, seeking, in God, that he said, all blessed be, his name, he will ever, be there, until he brings you, for, as, a triumph, in the work, of grace, not only begun, but complete, sometimes, fasting, tell me, you, who love the Lord, tell me, what it does, with you, parents, who would not, be able, to say, to repeat,

[26:02] I know, I've told you before, and the Lord, so mercifully, doubted me, yours, name, for God, and, so, I, invite him, to my, dear parents, tell them, of the Lord, work within, being brought forth, I've told you, those lines, tell me, that ye, that love the Lord, tell me, what is, just with you, is this the way, you had to go, so, deflecting, so trying, so, bringing down, to nothing, was this the way, you had to go, and the answer, came, yes, and then, years after, when, my dear mother, died, as we, there in the letter, that she had written, to her father, when she was, 16 years old, when she was, brought to, believe, as Peter here, believed, that Christ, is the son, of the eternal God, brought by, to cast, all her soul, all her care, upon him, and she asked, the same question, and received, just the same answer, it's no strange path, no new path, and yet, it's the way, he says, the seeking soul, the way,

[27:40] I long, of soul, and mourn, because I found it, my grief, and burden, long, has been, because I could not, cease, from sin, tell me, what it does, with you, if it was, if it is like that, with you now, you have much cause, to take heart, and thank God, that he brought you, eight of the broadway, and the city, and the streets, of that city, that only bring death, and brought you, into this man, it's strange, but it's, pure, it's strange, but there is one, in that, time, whose, covenant promise, is that he will not, leave you comfortless, in it, he will guide you, in it with his counsel, and at the close, of that pathway, will bring the glory, saw ye him, whom my soul loved him, it was but a little, that I passed from them, they couldn't help, they couldn't point the way, they might be able, perhaps to, indicate where, she might find him, and in some respect, we see here, that the work, of the servants of God, they are watchmen, if they are sent of God, they might point to Christ, but they cannot, agree to him, that is the Holy Spirit, a mercy, if they are faithfully, and able to point, to Christ to him, as the only wise, salvage, to point to him, as one who loves, with an everlasting love, point to him, who alone is evil, to forgive sin, and to bring peace, and tranquility, of mind, and spirit, point in that, that I can't, give it, it was but a little,

[30:03] I passed from that, satisfied, not they in me, until Jesus, himself, appear, and now, we find, in this fourth verse, that her seeking, her crying, her mourning, was not in vain, seeking, my face, the Saviour Christ, my soul, where shall thou, find supply, but in the land, for sinners slain, who has not, shed his blood, in vain, it was but a little, I passed from that, for the children, I found him, whom, my soul, loved it, for what a die, in the gracious experience, of a living soul, a burden soul, but a quicken, what a die, when they find, there's nothing, to compare to, all that this world, can bring forth, is but then, when laid aside, the miracle of grace, when Jesus, is revealed, to me, all in all, in the other part, so, the church, will continue, and does continue, in this beautiful song, it does not cease now, there are times, when, in after days, there may be, a slipping back, a hiding, perhaps, of his face, a covering, over your soul, that's to be assured, a cloud upon you, but nevertheless, whom, once he loves, he never leaves, he loves unto the end, and he shines again, it causes the soul, to go forth, in earnest supplication,

[32:07] Lord Jesus, come, come again, then I can, feel sweetness, in salvation, that, this is what you want, is to feel the sweetness, of this salvation, and that's only, as Jesus is you, as you feel, in me, as you view him, in all the fullness, of his redeeming love, and, and, I've brought, I've paid, to believe, in the, as I say, of that sacrifice, might have held him, for on this, is your salvation, dependent, that blood, that was shed, that cleanses, from all sin, you must know, that it was shed, for you, and you'll know it, in the exact, the country, the grain, of peace, that the world, cannot, I found him, whom my soul, love it,

[33:09] I held him, and would not, let him go, until I brought him, into my mother's house, into the chamber of her, that conceived him, that is, to bring him, in the, testimony of it, into the family, to give the, evidence, the sure evidence, that you are, a monk, sister, to exalt his holy hand, or to magnify, his salvation, revealed to you, I found him, all rejoice, and rejoice, with me, says this, seeking one, who is found, of the desire, of her soul, rejoice, with me,

[34:24] I charge you, that you, stir not up, nor wipe myself, to eat them, so, she found, and surely, this is the whole, end of the day, of our, worship, if we worship him, that we come, into his court, from the time, to time, for reading, his word, for instruction, or plead with him, at emergency, it is to, find him, to lay hold, by faith, upon him, and his finished work, and to capture, glint, if he so, for me, of a little, of his beauty, listen, to the, grove, grove, to this, blessed, saying here, I am, coming, to my garden, my sister, my spouse, my little, you, family, and now,

[35:33] I have to dispense, to you, I have to make, known my love, to you, in such a way, that will overwhelm, your soul, I have gathered, my myrrh, with my spice, I have eaten, my honeycomb, with my honey, I have drunk, my wine, with my milk, eat, oh friends, drink, yea, drink abundantly, oh, beloved, now, here's, the grove again, I say, there, may come, there will, often, from Caesar, when it fails, falls upon, that grove, see, and then, the adversary, of souls, comes in, and he brings, many a day, many a question, I, my beloved, put in his hand, by the hole, of the door, my bowels, would move, for him,

[36:35] I rose up, to open, to my beloved, I opened, to him, but my beloved, he rejoined, and said, and we saw, and my soul, found, when he, spake, I sought him, but I could not, find him, I called him, but he gave me knowledge, now, this is true, morning, this is the morning, that the hymn speaks of, morning, over, south, and after, and it is a, spiritual, but it's a, sanctified, morning, oh, it will not, bring a weeping, unto death, it will bring a weeping, unto repentance, the watchman, that went about, the city, found me, they smoked me, they wounded me, the keepers of the walls, took away my veil, I charge you, daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my denarii, to eat out there,

[37:39] I am sick of that, and I, through the time, is going, I just wanted to, go back, your thoughts, to the cause, and reason, a wise thing, that this, seeking soul, though, has found her beloved, is held fast, and will hold him fast, what is thy beloved, more than another beloved, oh, that there is, among women, what is thy beloved, more than another, that thou dost so charge us, and there is a description, that Jesus is revealed, to your heart, oh, that, you can lay hold, upon that, wondrous view, Jesus, Jesus, in the sinner's fight, your life, bearing your sin, in his own body, on the tree, and forever, remove it, and thus, in this pathway, preparing you, for the rest, my beloved, is white, and ruddy, the cheapest, among ten faiths, his head, is as the most, fine gold, his eyes, as the eyes, of dust, his cheeks, as the bed of spices, his hands, as gold rings, everything, that is about him, is beautiful, it is perfect, and then the closing, verse of that, fifth chapter, is that, that you and I, are favored to know, a little, if we are truly, his blood, his mouth, is merciful, when it is, when it speaks, a word, it sees, unto your soul, when it brings, pardon, when it brings, comfort, in your distress, when it brings, our sweet assurance, of fighting him, and assures you, of the fire, in his love, in his redemption, in his heaven, his mercy, most sweet, yea, he is altogether, lovely, there is nothing, that is not, lovely of him, not only, out of length, we have not, seen the fullness, we cannot, hear to know, but it, stirs up, as he dies, to see him, as he is, in that day, when my church, will be gathered, to him, he is altogether, lovely, this, is my beloved, and this, is my friend, of daughters, of Jerusalem, oh, what, a wonderful revelation, then, is granted, to this seeking, longing soul, who, as Peter, is brought, to confess, from the heart, there are the promise, the son, of the living God, flesh, and blood, have not revealed this, my father, which is in heaven, and that, wonderful mercy, and he reveals them, by his spirit, and it is his holy spirit, we continually, pray for him, in his power, he may abide with us, in this little, corner of his vineyard, in Zion, in general, in our hearts, in particular, for if the holy spirit, is working, within our hearts, then, there is no limit, to the beauties, of Christ, that he will reveal, in the Lord,

[41:37] Lord, of his blessing, to these few things, that we've spoken, in this night, again, his name, and so. God, Lord, is going to pass, forward with us, on Jewish, the needy, every day, next door today, He is made, for the masters, the effect, thousand, 113, five thousand, no place.
