[0:00] In the Lord's help we will speak from Psalm 127 and the first verse. Psalm 127 and the first verse.
[0:17] Except the Lord build the hell, they labour in vain to build it. Except the Lord keep the city.
[0:28] Watchmen wake up, they're cutting pay. Except the Lord build the hell, they labour in vain to build it.
[0:43] And the folks born in swanishly, who are the things. Gracious spiritual maker of the Lord's building of it.
[0:55] In regard to the house. We ask the question, what could David have meant? Could he have meant the natural house? Or should he build it?
[1:08] Except the Lord build the house? Although we need not archery, no matter how much. We know that this has been carried over very beautifully into the New Testament.
[1:25] And because Paul speaks of the building. And particularly pray together, 2nd Ephesians and in this epistle to the Colossians.
[1:42] They view the work of salvation as contact. Leading to a predestinated corporate end.
[1:56] They could set down account of the cost. Covenant of grace would be completely settled all day.
[2:07] The cost of grace. Renemption's price was precious indeed. But it had been agreed in covenant engagement.
[2:25] That this house should be built. So that under this figure. We have full gospel warranty. To speak of the sacred work of God's true church.
[2:42] As it is constructed. Built. By his own gracious hand. And no one else's. For the second part of the first clause.
[2:57] It's abundant proof. That any attempt. To upbuild. Church of God. By human being. Is down to life.
[3:11] A point which. Seems to be kept well in line. In view. Of the continued efforts of men.
[3:22] In all ages. Who run upset. Only striving to build. A house of God.
[3:32] For their own invention. Design. Doctrine. And. Instead of. Doing good. I do.
[3:43] Immense harm. And. Are. Running a warfare. At their own charge. We cannot predict.
[3:56] That the apostle delighted. In such a psalm as this. When his eyes were opened. To. See the. Meaning of it. To rejoice.
[4:07] To rejoice. And. To rejoice. Not only. In the. Uh. Letter. But in the spirit of it. As he. Found the burden.
[4:18] Of being a laborer. So heavy. Upon his own soul. And. That. Also. Upon his. Fellow labor.
[4:28] His. Men. That were engaged. Together. As. Uh. Uh. A yoke of oxen. And more.

[5:25] Fact. That. This has gone on. And. God has raised up. These. Laborers. Time. And time again. Some of them have lived.
[5:37] Through a good old age. Others of them have been. Caught off of the sea. At. Early early age. Such as. Uh.
[5:48] Gracious. Top labor. In 38 years. They labor. And. They labor. Under God's guidance. And their discrepan.

[7:28] Of caliber. And. Even the women also. Used. In the preparation. Of the. Ancient tabernacle. Their shields.
[7:41] Were. Employed. Of God. So that when we come. To the church of God. We must not. Confine our thoughts.
[7:51] To the laborer. Solely. To the ministry. Of the Lord. Of the Lord. Because. There is. A work to do. In the humble. Way.

[18:56] And their duties were well known to them, namely to keep awake and to be on the alert against danger or some hidden form of attack.
[19:18] Their cities were exposed. Some of them were 45, some were. But the Watchman was a well known figure in the East and it was their responsibility therefore to rise to the land.
[19:40] And how this too is carried over into the Osmond age. Look at the chapter that we read in Isaiah 2.
[19:55] There among several others is the Watchman is interesting.
[20:06] And what are these laborers if they are not also Watchmen? This increases their responsibility.
[20:21] But not only so, that these living stones, these that are built together, iron, are Watchmen themselves.
[20:34] They are given service. They are given hearing, alertness. They are given a sense of duty.
[20:48] What to do to protect the truth. And given a discernment of the truth, of what is truth.
[20:59] They are encouraged to stand for the truth. And the truth. Their labor is in the night time.
[21:11] Seasons of danger as well as darkness. Although the Eastern Watchman was as necessary in the daytime as the night.
[21:26] We spoke this morning of the listening ear that God is in the building of this house.
[21:38] And how his people are given an ear to listen. And he builds up their soul through this thing. And you call it the again.
[21:51] They listen. You might listen for yourself. This is a true mark of being one of these living stones when you are brought to listen to yourself.
[22:13] And that is a need for personal communication found in your soul of the word of God. This is what Jesus called in hungry and thirsty.
[22:27] However, the Watchman therefore, had to have a near, an attentive ear, a discerning ear. And Peter knew much about this Watchman's work.
[22:42] Having himself being caught by an unweary tongue.
[22:54] I will never forsake him. And furthermore being so unwise as to reject what Jesus said to him.
[23:11] Verily I say unto thee, for the cock crow thou shalt deny thee thrice. I would have thought the first word would have put him on his count.
[23:25] But he forgot all the last word. In the rush of events as they transpired. The apprehending of Jesus.
[23:37] The cold night. And Jesus taken into the judgment hall. And there was no John by his side. He went in to the judgment hall.
[23:48] And Peter said, Oh, great mercy to have Godly company.
[24:00] Great mercy to have someone by his side. And saying, be careful. And God does afford his people, his health very often.
[24:13] Those that are equally goat to the banner. And they are given warnings of approaching danger. And John went into the judgment hall.
[24:26] So Peter, just on his own. And he said, I'm going to say, I picture that John of David. He wouldn't have said what he did.
[24:40] Now be careful when you are on your own. And you have got to work on your own. You have got to live in the world on your own. You have got to stop at home on your own.
[24:52] You are. A lonely life, isn't it very often? But dangerous. And so Peter, was alone around me, brazier, warming himself that time.
[25:13] Perfect. I know not the man. Oh, to think of the experience that he had.
[25:26] And the awful bitterness of it. Why in person? We don't know a little of this bitterness, of failure, of sin.
[25:40] Praise the Lord Jesus. You can't tell that man that victory is heaven. But if we know them, they are, they are.
[25:52] Peter went out, and it was when the Lord spoke him up. And the cock crowed.
[26:04] And Peter remembered the words of the Lord Jesus. So that here is a man, so qualified to speak to us, in his general official, of those who are kept by the power of God, who pay after salvation.
[26:25] He knew, from hiding from his spirit, what it was to be kept.
[26:36] Preserved. Therefore, having thus suffered, he is, like his brother Paul, on his mind, declared, a thing of the necessity, of the watchman, as in this text, being a wall.
[26:58] There are many beautiful scriptures, so suitable to these, lively and living stones, that, they, will come to your mind, as readily as to mine.
[27:17] Take a walk. Oh Lord, on my head, keep the door of my house. But there is just a tight walk.
[27:30] How we may, the Lord, set a watch, on us. on out. This is where the couple is, with us.
[27:45] The Lord is pleased to do it. Many, many times. We do not know, when he does it. And, when our lips run away with us, bring us into trouble, furrow, bitter, and tears.
[28:06] Then it is, we shall leave, this gracious watch. This alertness. The Song of Solomon refers to the watchman, going about the city.
[28:22] And, the, the, spout asking, see ye here, for whom my soul loveth. What a gracious word of thee, is compared to the others.
[28:39] This watchman after me is quite often. Their office, is to proclaim, as the latter part of the 52nd of Isaiah declares, the, the, the, the, the, the, sufferings of the Lord Jesus.
[29:00] Many were astonished at. You see, it was so mad more than anything. After, apart from God, watching, keeping, preserving, you, or me, or any, where should we be.
[29:16] We are not masters, as many tell us, of their own destiny. Some would go as far as to say, there is no destiny. There is no need to run it. Why all this anxiety about the unknown future.
[29:27] as millions are heading there too unconcernedly.
[29:50] Why should I be concerned? At least I shall have company. Yes. Yes indeed.
[30:01] But what company? For the same company as you have loved upon earth, of course. But as we can't, this building, that those who are given the grace of God, and build up in it, and may that no more strangers or foreigners, but fellow citizens, they need to watch.
[30:29] And this is, a very delicate word. Paul says, in his final words, in the Hebrews, saying, thy watch for your souls, as thou shalt forgive me can.
[30:51] And this is the responsibility, you see, of the watcher. If he files, the blind rest upon him.
[31:02] it is his work to warn. Now you see this, set out in this 50 second chapter, that's why I read it.
[31:18] For they, thy watchman, shall lift up the voice. With the voice together shall they sing, for they shall sing, eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion.
[31:33] This voice of the watchman, is associated with the beautiful feet of him, that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth feet, that teth unto Zion, thy God reigneth.
[31:49] Well, this great warning, is the work of the watchman, that it is God's work. You need to be warned, that the death in your hands, could plant the spiritual graces, of your own soul, on itself.
[32:11] You need to be warned, take your own hands off of the earth. You need to be warned, that it is not of heaven, with it.
[32:24] Oh, what an alarm needs to be, sounded in time, against some dangerous foe, that needs to come, and declare, that it is, of goodness, with it.
[32:41] That you can. If you are of the mind, it rests in time with you. And that is, your responsibility, responsibility.
[32:58] Now the Gospel, the warning note, of the Gospel, declares, that it is not of heaven, of goodness. It runs parallel, with the chapter, I've just quoted from, the 2nd Ephesians.
[33:13] the truth. The truth. The truth. The truth. The truth. The truth. The truth. The truth. And listen to this. And that, not of yourselves.
[33:25] Not of yourselves. What else? It is the gift of God. And what else? Not of works. Why?
[33:36] Why? Has any man should vote? No one can dispute that. That, if they put their own hand, to their own salvation, they will be entitled to credit.
[33:54] If I may draw a scene, before your eyes, if you stand at heaven's gate, and say, Lord, I have done so and so, think you that there will be, according to the word of God, an acceptance.
[34:19] If any reverse is true, from the lips of Jesus, in thy name have we cast out nebils. In thy name have we done many wonderful works.
[34:34] The answer is, depart from, I have a new. And this is not written by an apostle. It is not written by a prophet.
[34:46] It is the word of Jesus. And as it may sound upon your ears, either tenderly or harshly, so it is a declaration of divine justice and hope.
[35:04] It is not written by an apostle. And this is one of the great gospel warnings. And this is the work of the watchman to declare it.
[35:17] And sound an alarm. An alarm. An alarm it is, and has proved to be, to many. Oh, how many, who have, years past, been trusting, in their own righteousness, working out their own way to heaven, and seeking to find access there, in their own merit, and it is quite comfortable that they are as good as the net, and how many, who have, and touched their arms, and utterly have called their own body, and have been brought to horse, and have seen the precipice on which they stood, and the imminent danger in which they live, had they, in such a belief, have been called to stand before the earth.
[36:19] It is not a word that any man should boast. Well, this is part of our, natural, make up, posturing isn't it?
[36:34] I am not talking about a boast now. These are obvious. Self, proud, and, and, most, it is obvious, in the world.
[36:50] But, an inward boast, a secret, a quiet resting on, what you've done. This is, the work of God to undo this.
[37:04] The work of the heavenly builder, to undermine self-confidence. So that you do not trust.
[37:17] You are given views of your self, in such a way that you dare not, and you are brought to see your own of utter helplessness, with regard to these heavenly things.
[37:40] the words of God. The words of God, is the watchman's work therefore, the sound of a laugh. As to the result of this, there is no need to raise his book.
[37:54] There is no need to come this Bible. There is no need to use any undue effort, like some orator would, to impress this year.
[38:09] God uses the things that are not. He takes the things that are weak, to carry home the sharp, and truth of the love, into the consciousness, of those that hear it.
[38:28] and therefore the more moderate the preacher is, the better for him. Because if his confidence is in his God, the need for him to raise his book.
[38:45] It is God that works. He takes the Lord to keep the sin. This preservation is throughout the scripture.
[38:58] By warnings in word, and warnings in example, practice.
[39:09] You see, different men, godly, gracious men, in fact, there are not many that you can't see. You have at some time or other, fallen.
[39:23] God's taken his hand away from them. And you are given a view of what happened.
[39:34] And as much as the atheist may sneer and scoff at this, and say, well look at the answer, look at the answer, you are going to tell me, that he was a man of God, as much as they may score, not historically then.
[39:56] To the church of God they are blessed. that these are the times that men, through what it is.
[40:07] And his weakness. Let him that think as he standeth, take heed, lest he fall.
[40:18] so that there is not only the building, and the living stones, the living members, and the true church of God, that is in this text.
[40:30] And also the bread of life. the resurrection. This is a sacred subject, which is all the Jews, who all rights, or Jews, thus, preserved in Christ Jesus, and called.
[40:52] It may sound therefore quite unnecessary, to have a watchman, if they are preserved in Christ Jesus.
[41:06] Preserved from the, before their birth, preserved from all eternity. called in Christ.
[41:19] And this preservation, is revealed to be, not only before, but after their call.
[41:31] That they are preserved in Christ Jesus. And right down to the end, he is their people. He preserves them in the days of their own regenerative.
[41:44] When they were without song. When they were without hope. He watches over, and then, he says, danger, seen, and unseen.
[42:03] These are some of the marvels, of individual lives. Some of, less expressed perhaps, by a hymn writer.
[42:14] Determined to say, he wants all my power. When Satan's blind, I, I, supported the death.
[42:27] It was Godly name. Preserved. Preserved. I want a God-honoring, glorifying, gospel message.
[42:38] Accept the Lord, keep the city, the watchman, quite as much in life. What is a poor human instrument?
[42:54] What could he, do of himself? When the, advancing enemy, Satan, approaches, plays a snare for his unwearing needs. Catch it in him. You see, trying to be listened to and warned.
[43:06] Not in God's, not in the nation. This preservation therefore, includes restoration.
[43:25] The lost sheep, you know, restoration. The lost sheep, you know, that left the hundred in the wilderness, went on his own way and was entitled to be called a lost sheep. Now the shepherd so intends to recover it that he went after it until he found it. He did not give up half way, for nine tenths of the wilderness. Now this sheep was found and he put it on his shoulders, plural, round, completely round his neck, you children. Remember this, with his hind legs in one hand and his four legs in the other, he has not under his arm, he lays it upon his shoulders, bringing it home, good. And there is preservation, what, why is the backslider? The backslider is preserved. Well, a lost sheep was, yes, he belonged to the foal, but he wanted it. And he got into such a place, entirely helpless. And had it not been for the shepherd, then we may well suppose he would have been lost. But he was recovered. And he was brought back in such a way as to make quite sure he didn't try again. Beautiful, isn't it? He lays it upon his shoulders, bringeth it home, the whole choice, present life. This glorious gospel then, shows us the heavenly one. He does quite think that, the Lord Jesus himself. What does he say? Fear not, little cross. It is your father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. He says they shall never perish. I come near to it, as man does. Never perish. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my father's hand. Now what a building this is.
[46:26] does it matter? Does it matter? Doesn't it matter? Can it destroy you when it's done? Ask yourself. Ask yourself.
[46:42] You who know anything but the knife of God in your soul, will have a spontaneous answer to me. Does it matter what I do, where I go, if I am preserved in Christ Jesus? What about love? What about the affection, the indebtedness of the same sinner to his great pastor?
[47:21] The home is a recovery. The backslider in half, though filled with its own ways, should be brought back at him. Ephraim may kick, he may seek, jump right out of the hands of divinity, but never, never shall he be lost, they shall never perish. Neither shall any man pluck them out of my father's hands. Accept the Lord, keep the city, his precious city, with her wayward and the poor sinners, unworthy. Prone to wander all night, prone to need the God I am done.
[48:25] Here's my heart-bought cake and seal it. Seal it for thy courts and love. This is her language. This preservation is after the end. Many things happen at the end of life. Many things.
[48:48] When you are suffering, including weakness. When diet against your head. When memory against your heart. When the things of the past begin to sink into forgetfulness. Illness. Afflictness.
[49:17] Take the average end of the Lord's dear people. And will I let you do violent. And suffer. And times of sinality. Grievous indeed it is. Yes. A mother can walk through it.

[52:27] You hear me listening. Preserve me listening. Preserve me listening. Preserve me listening. Preserve me listening. Preserve me listening. Preserve me listening to, and so many other things. My, and this is what we need.
